A happy and safe place to talk fashion (from high end to high street), beauty and the arts. All welcome to bring a positive state of mind, lots of links and an eye for detail.

dry Shock Hope all ok.

More good news in the Carrie household. After lots of deliberation about the cost, spoiling the kids etc etc, we've just booked flights to go to Florida at Easter again. Not sure we'll do any Orlando or touring this time: just 12 nights near Anna Maria Island hopefully. Bliss.

MarshaBrady · 22/09/2013 14:19

And Dry hope all ok.

Carrie good one!

foxysocks · 22/09/2013 14:52

yay carrie! that's an ace decision.

dry, omg, poor you! hope wait goes quickly

I feel really weird today, bit weepy. we are packing up the current kitchen and moving boxes around the house depending on what they contain. it's taking so much brain power to work out what we do and don't need. on top of that, i am losing my yoga room to kitchen/family/dining room, so have set up the sitting room for yoga. did my first practice in there today and it just felt weird. nothing looked or felt the same. i think the next few weeks and months are going to be harder than I had thought.

Drywhiteplease · 22/09/2013 15:33

Crisis in Dry household over. DH has landed ("I want to do it again" ) and is driving home (raised over £4000 with his collegues!) DS has muscle thing knew it wasn't serious, hard mother . Just going to sit down and read Sunday papers and Style supplement .

Drywhiteplease · 22/09/2013 15:42

Carrie the Aigle coat is exactly what I need! Gorgeous

squinney · 22/09/2013 16:03

marsha breaks my heart to hear the disappointment . Remember it's dm & df, not you. Uncle splat felt the same way. I did too, until I spent 3 weeks in their pockets and they couldn't escape! :) you have a beautiful family (the four of you) I'm well jel (that's what you say in England init ?)

carrie74 · 22/09/2013 16:09

Foxy I always get really unsettled when moving things around in the house, and a bit weepy. Is this just temporary until the kitchen's done?

dry phew! glad everyone well and safe! and fantastic job for your H.

Am totally p*ed off with the children today. The eldest has got an attitude and just seems to dawdle (and then comes home from school complaining she never finishes her work: because you're too busy DAWDLING), youngest is a total whinge bag. Usually it's fine, but I'm just fed up today. And reaction to announcement that they get to go back to Florida? Eldest: oh, ok I guess, but I really wanted to spend Easter at home for once. Youngest: NO! I don't want to go to Universal again. us: we're not. Him: oh, ok. [shrugs]. Ungrateful spoilt brats.

[sigh] they're alright really, just been one of those weekends.

MarshaBrady · 22/09/2013 16:09

Squinney! ah that made me nearly have tears. Did he?! How interesting. I will pm you (look to the top right inbox for a red blob, more exciting than email haha). I feel like the Brady Bunch on here now Grin

MarshaBrady · 22/09/2013 16:21

Ah Carrie that't tough, how old are your dc?

Foxy how long til it's all finished do you think? It must be difficult, I haven't done a house before, but worth it in the end.

Dry good stuff!

Decameron · 22/09/2013 16:36

Well done, Mr Dry!

Carrie, I think you will love the Aigle, it's one of my best buys. I hate when my children whine. I have a sign in the kitchen which says No whining but do they listen!

Marsha, I think the Sessun coat is lovely. Hope you are ok. FlowersListen to your sister!

LinusDKD · 22/09/2013 16:54

one if you haven't bought a winter coat yet, Asos have up to 60% off coats for 24 hrs only!

Catch up later.

Drywhiteplease · 22/09/2013 16:56

Carrie tell your kids that you've given their tickets to mine!Grin we went at Easter and a couple of years ago and they're desperate to go back so am I bloody loved it all!!!!!!

libertychick · 22/09/2013 17:03

Marsha Flowers I think when families live apart it puts a lot of pressure on the times you do meet. I always end up feeling stressed/tired/deflated after visits home. Great advice from MrsR on how not to repeat the pattern. Love the jumper and the peacoat is great.

I might not buy anything else now until the sales…there isn’t anything I really need (maybe a navy skirt) – was just thinking yesterday that I haven’t felt like that about my clothes in ages, there are always things I like but actually I have enough for now – you can all quote this back to me when I post next week linking new purchases Grin. My new coat has made me feel quite pulled together.

Carrie hope the coat is great – ignore the kids – they’ll love the holiday Smile Bath was busy – loved it. Lots of wandering around, I didn’t shop .

Foxy focus on how fantastic it will all look in the end – you’re getting that amazing Aga!!!

Santa I would never link my kitchen – it’s awful – think farmyard scenes with chickens on the tiles – not worth doing it though, to get what I want we’d have to knock walls etc and we’re not staying that long in this house.

Dry glad to hear DS is ok – tell him to take it easy and make sure it’s healed – my DH spends a fortune on chiropractors constantly having his neck sorted after getting lots of relatively minor injuries in his teens and twenties – paying for it now in his forties. Well done MrDry - I did a skydive about 10 years ago – absolutely amazing feeling (and I am terrified of heights) but I’d do it again – if my experience is anything to go by he’ll be high on it for a few days!

libertychick · 22/09/2013 17:08

Mig I love the bag and think it's v v you!

santamarianovella · 22/09/2013 17:09

dry so glad everything is ok with your family, was thinking about you this morning, and well done mr dry!

marsha, hope you are feeling better today, parents can behave like children sometimes, you can never know what to expect from them, dont let this incident affect you.

carrie the coat is beautiful, and congrats on the awesome easter trip!

novice safe trip, and hope all is good between you and your dh once you get back home.

sleep how is it going so far? did you go out?

foxy we did some minor renovations earlier this year, and although it looks much better,it still felt strange for a couple of weeks.
dec hope you get the house this time.

we went to the apple store this afternoon,it was chaos,i left dh there and took the dcs to the primrose bakery, heaven!
i wore my frame denim luxe noir skinnies, with an old james perse grey sweatshirt, high black heels and the celine phantom,dh said to take it down a notch ,its just the apple store not a photo shoot Grin

Drywhiteplease · 22/09/2013 17:22

Marsha you have such a nice sister and I like the sound on Uncle Spalt!Grin

Drywhiteplease · 22/09/2013 17:24

Foxy just focus on the end result. I get v stressed by my house being upside down but it's like having babies, not v pleasant at the time but well worth it in the end and you forget about the horrible bits!

bloomingheather · 22/09/2013 18:05

Hi everyone! I've been catching up today - I don't get much time to post during the week but usually manage to read most days.
Carrie I love your new coat. I would like an Aigle too - a friend of mine is having a 'pop-up shop' in a few weeks (her sister has an independent clothes shop) and they usually stock Aigle. They sell at a discount on the day too, so I will have a try on Smile.
Dry glad to hear your husband landed safely. I did a skydive a few years ago too - it was hair-raising (literally!) but an experience I will never forget (the awful DVD I got along with it makes that impossible Grin.
Liberty glad you enjoyed your weekend in Bath. I was there two years ago for a weekend and loved it, especially the Thermae Bath Spa - the rooftop pool (I think mignonette mentioned it earlier?) was blissful. I was meaning to say too about the COS navy skirt I have pinned. I wore it for only the third time on Friday and the hem seems to be unravelling already. I had a closer look at it when I took it off and the hem is uneven, so I'm not convinced about the quality of it. I had washed it before so it's maybe that, but I did it on the delicates cycle so it should have been okay. Hmmm.
The main thing I need for Autumn/Winter is a new coat but I would like a few new tops, mostly 'going out' tops and some knitwear too.
I have a lot of work to be doing today and garlic-kale mash to make for dinner (using up the contents of our veg bag Smile, so I'd better stop procrastinating! Hope you all have lovely evenings.

shopafrolic · 22/09/2013 18:15

Hugs for Marsha I have the same issues with my mother who only lives 5 mins away but doesn't seem to care less about DS. And my DB and DSIL live abroad - always a big build up to visits, I always feel let down. My DB and I don't get on, and I seem to forget that and then feel disappointed that he isn't always that nice to me when I see him!
Squinney you sound ace - as does Uncle Splat!
Awful day here too - must be the time of year. DS misbehaving, I had an epic meltdown and had to retire to bed! Hmm
Foxy change is a good thing sometimes - try and embrace it.
MrsR awesome wise words earlier!
Novice safe travels - I wore the J Crew tee today - the colour is awesome - Thanks
Waves to Blooming
Dry is DH celebrating tonight?
I have some online codes for 20% off at M&S if anyone needs anything. Valid until tomorrow.
Liberty glad the coat is working for you and that you had fun in Bath - I love it there. One of the Fashionistas on that C4 documentary is from there.....

OneLittleLady · 22/09/2013 18:30

Well, I wasn't prepared for how warm it's been today! Went out in a big woolly cardigan only to have to get dp to help me take it off halfway through the day as it was so warm

bloomingheather · 22/09/2013 18:36

Waves back to shop! I forgot to say mignonette I like that Burberry bag. I love this Jerome Dreyfuss one here but it's a similar price, so on my 'inspiration only' list Wink.
I really should stop procrastinating now.....

Drywhiteplease · 22/09/2013 18:44

shop you're on good form this evening despite your stressful day!
DH is on a big high right now....gone out to hit some tennis balls, due back at 7, doubtless all giddy. We've relived the jump via his DVD Blooming, actually didn't look at all scared (I'd have looked much more uncool)...he's super chilled about anything like that infact he'd be great on I'm aCelebrity because he's not scared of anything, eating bugs would be no prob, dead or alive....quite a disgusting man really . I'm sure well crack open a bottle, but not sure I'll be able to handle his hyper excited mood hopefully he'll crash out as he had 5 am start ... hopefully during Downton

Have you all seen Marant in style mag? There's a beautiful shirt on p59, at Matches, but not online yet. Lovely.

Sleepwhenidie · 22/09/2013 19:07

Are we syncing up on being pissed off with DC's/DH's now? I have just completely lost the plot with mine, put half their dinner in the bin and sent them upstairs, told them I don't want go see them again tonight - and I mean it. Am sat outside simmering with you lot and a glass of wine, although I have offloaded on DH who called just as I sat down and has been told he can't skype with DC's. Sad. We went to the cinema this afternoon which was fine but DS1 is developing a real attitude that the other two imitate, then DS2 is so hard to discipline at his age and just plays the clown when he is told off, making the others laugh and winding me up even more Hmm.
