A happy and safe place to talk fashion (from high end to high street), beauty and the arts. All welcome to bring a positive state of mind, lots of links and an eye for detail.
Continuing on from here

Well, you know I love my clothes etc...obsessed as much as everyone else on this thread, but fashion is really mostly a case of Emperor's New Clothes. I think anyone with half a brain knows that it's all an illusion with the sole purpose of making money and as such I really don't have a problem with that. Fashion shows are a huge publicity stunt so why not get loads of celebs in wearing your stuff they usually look stupid and bored anyway We all know the images in fashion magazines are fake, photo shopped , not real people, completely subjective, influenced by the highest payers; it's all a business and what's wrong with that? I'm not stupid enough to buy something simply because I see Alexa or Kate wearing it.
I want fantasy, aspiration, a bit of fun.....if I want reality I'll read Heat crap magazine. I make sure my DD knows that it's all fake too, just as much as all the rubbish her peers put on faceBook, which is a load of rubbish too.

marsha tisci's the creative director of givenchy. He was also resonspondible for this dress.

dry you're so right but I think the problem is that so many people do believe it all and aren't cynical like us!

Completely agree with you Dry. It's just a bit of fun for me too. I enjoy buying the odd thing and just mucking about talking about style and Vogue.

Ah yes QueenC I remember that one!

I like all the fashion pomp too. I was checking out the street style at PFW. Love all that stuff.

I also ordered the star jumper in the grey, think I may reorder smaller size it feels really soft and I like it a lot. Queen c I ordered the navy suede boots but they're not even on their way yet.
Foxy I have decided to just go for it and order the f&b boots in brown but can't find them in my size anywhere and not even a stockist within 100 miles from here feel a day trip to London is on the cards (chance of this happening fairly slim!) where did you order your first pair from? And we're there any problem with returns?
Still no coat mostly as been busy at work and juggling the dc next week should be calmer and will have more time for reading this thread and shopping.
Grey skinnies all either too dark or too pale, eventually will find the shade I want.
Decameron I will be back on the coat hunt next week will let you know if I find anything new!

So, so far Grumpy Sleep Ruby and I have bought the Stars and Stripes AWO jumper......come on everyone else, join the club Grin

Foxy can we deep breath together and relax or meditate or something....it's getting messy here too! Infact it's not the dust that bothers me I just hate the fact that all my kitchen furniture is bunched up and were all having to squeeze in and around things....I'm too clumsy, I need space, managed to smash a glass inside the dishwasher earlier! Oops. Your little boy sounds sweet.

So the photographer's are due here tomorrow AM - there is crap everywhere, think potties, kids toys, a kingsize mattress in the hallway which isn't being collected until tomorrow PM! I will be throwing things from one room to the next as we walk round! Nightmare. I am consoling myself with a rather good Sauvignon Blanc and a dirty Dominos pizza Grin

Oh how I've just been laughing at the KK pic where they've juxtaposed a pic of her in the flowery dress with one of Robin Williams as Mrs Doubtfire in something very similar.

I don't really get the Kardashian thing at all. I've seen many episodes of their show as DDs and DNieces often watch it together, but they all seem to dress like off-duty strippers, not fashion icons. Too much everything. And Kim is just morphing into her mother (or vice/versa) they're so similar now I can't be sure which of them it is in a photo without close inspection. handy that Kim has highlighted her hair

Shop shove it all in bin bags and stick them in the car until photographer's gone.

Am sitting reading Red and In Style. In Style has an article about fashion faux pas or mal functions. So we haven't had a fashion question forages;

Have you had any fashion faux pas or mal functions?

May 1997, my friend's wedding in Cheshire . I felt fabulous in my home made dress and big hat. Until the bodice started coming unsewn showing my very white tummy.
Luckily I noticed as we just arrived at the stately home.
Luckily DH is an ingenious, friendly guy . He went to the stately home shop, asked to buy a sewing kit, sales lady took him upstairs to her flat and gave him hers......I sewed my dress back together in the loo!

Not a fashion faux pas, but we went to another wedding always weddings for me as I try really hard . Had a fabulous dress bought with shoes that had taken weeks to find. Felt fab. As we got out of taxi I spotted one of DHs female colleagues in same dress didn't look as good as me,bitch Made snap decision, jumped in taxi, sped off home leaving DH Confused ....told cab to wait on drive! Shockgot changed super quickly! raced out an back in taxi! Sped to venue, asked driver to deposit me at end of drive, snuck up drive through bushes and discretely joined post ceremony terrace aperitif drinking DH and friends.....got away with it. Had a large champagne Grin But gutted to have missed the beautiful bride coming down the aisle to the Smiths!

Nice idea Dry. Will have to think about my fashion mal function - being a dancer in v skimpy outfits in clubs in the 90s they were numerous - but most people were too off their faces to care!
Can someone else set up the next edition of MNV when the time comes - I won't be around tomorrow - TA!

Fashion Faux Pas? That's got me thinking.....

Well my former school teachers would probably call all my mid teen year outfits that as I was sent home to change at least three times a week. I just would not submit to the dress code.

The white voile shirt that was so gauzy and light that I didn't notice it had become unbuttoned to my lower torso. With no bra underneath? I was out partying but still......That was pretty bad as I was out w/ former work colleagues.

I used to have this knickers that tied at the side w/ violet ribbons. The ribbons used to peek above the sides of low rise jeans. I was out (again) and needed to go to the loo. They had come undone under my jeans and when I pulled jeans down they fell off. No problem except that when I leaned over to pick them up, I toppled forwards and knocked myself senseless against the toilet door causing the mother of all nose bleeds.

Why do my faux pas involve lingerie or a lack of it Grin?

Evening all!

Shop, good advice from Dry. It took me 2 full days to declutter the house. The last few bits and pieces did get shoved in a bag and under the bed! Best of luck!

We had our first viewers today. Weird to think of someone traipsing round your house when you're nit here! They were still here when my nanny and ds came home. Ds was unimpressed to find their child playing with his toys in the playroomGrin

Wardrobe mal functions - memorable day at work wearing a brown and cream stripe shirt (so NOT my colours), no make-up, unwashed hair tied up in a messy ponytail (was slightly hungover, no meetings, having a number crunching desk day) when the communications manager appeared at my office door with a photographer in tow to take my photo for a profile piece on the organisation webpage - somehow I had missed the email about it and had no idea it was happening that day. They insisted it had to be done there and then and that sodding horrible unflattering picture was the first thing that popped up when you goggled my name for about a year! Thankfully, I've left that job and the picture is long gone now.

Novice with a bit of luck the child will have loved the toys and will now pester his parents to buy your house!
