A happy and safe place to talk fashion (from high end to high street), beauty and the arts. All welcome to bring a positive state of mind, lots of links and an eye for detail.

QueenC, I am the higher earner but everything is pooled together and we each get left with the same amount to spend after our household and dc commitments. i get the pursed lips version of the talk. So there are no actual words, just much glaring which is usually enough to get the message cross. Dh gets grumpy because my clothes spend usually goes on CC which gets paid out of joint account. Wink Dh much more fiscally paranoid conservative so he carries on like we are one purchase away from being on the streets.Hmm

yesterday's girl crush is famous. She had everyone just drooling at how fantastic she was while working with us for the whole day. So smart, insightful, sooo sharp and very funny, which you don't get to see from her day job. I think she is occasionally criticised for what she wears but she looked so stylish. She wore a gorgeous black dress that was loose and managed to look smart and casual at the same - it was like smock type dress which is a bad descrption because I am not a fan. Lovely shoes. She was a lovely person too. I have always thought she was okay but I (and I think several hundred other people) was in lust by the end of the day Grin

Drywhiteplease · 27/09/2013 18:23

Shucks QC thanks.....I think I need to grow up ! Grin working with children I'm regressing! think I'm really on their level! just pretending to be grown up.
Now I'm getting worried about my Visa bill, might call them, don't think I can wait until my statement arrives next week.

QueenCadbury · 27/09/2013 18:23

Come on novice, we all need a pm now to know who she is Grin

foxysocks · 27/09/2013 18:24

can someone buy this skirt PLEASE. not my size but would snap it up otherwise.

LinusDKD · 27/09/2013 18:26

mig I loved that coat the first time you linked it! I think you will wear it for many years to come.

And that's so kind of you to offer to babysit! We live far away from family and friends so I know what it's like never to go out. Although it's better now that we have found a fabulous babysit.

Which leads my to a question: DH have been invited for tapas tomorrow evening by people we've only met once (wife is Spanish, hence the tapas).

What do I wear? Nothing too dressy but not my usual SAHM uniform. I have been stressing about it all week!

And before I forget:

dry your day does sound fabulous! I love impromptu lunches with DH.

shop how are you?

what welcome!

MarshaBrady · 27/09/2013 18:27

Novice feel free to put up a pic of famous person on the MNV board Grin

Dry that story re M&S made me laugh. I think it was your telling of it, very funny.

Mig yes to the coat, it's very you and you will love it.

Decam definitely a good decision!

BrandyAlexander · 27/09/2013 18:27

QueenC i have pinned!

LinusDKD · 27/09/2013 18:30

Tha is a lovely skirt foxy but my hips are too wide I am too fat for that type of skirt.

Oh, have yous seen Allwornout recently. One of the ladies tried on a pair of lovely Gap shorts, and I remember you were looking for some.

MarshaBrady · 27/09/2013 18:31

Welcome What Smile

Linus I always find mid level hard. I have loads of sahm-type stuff and quite a few dresses and heels. I need a new nice skirt really. What have you got?

LinusDKD · 27/09/2013 18:37

Mid level is hard Marsha!

I just want to make a good impression but not look overdressed or try hard. I would describe what I'm after as 'stealth fashionista' (trademark Wink)

I have been thinking lf wearing a black Sportmax dress I bought in Singapore a couple of years ago. It's very plain but the neckline has a leather border. Maybe I could wear my Colts with it to toughen it up a bit?

Another option is a pair of skinnies with a naice blouse. I have a teal Sportmax (again) blouse which is lovely but I'm not sure I can still fit in it. Or a black and cream silk polkadot blouse from Hobbs.

I really need to rummage through my wardrobe as I have no idea what I still own and what still fits.

BrandyAlexander · 27/09/2013 18:37

Oh I am so excited! I finally worked out how to pin a photoBlush so have just pinned yesterday's crush and 2 pics of my kitchen in new house!

LinusDKD · 27/09/2013 18:38

Ooh, I just remebered I have a lovely black high waisted Ossie Clark skirt that I bought when I was still working in London. What to wear with it though?

And I have several Me&Em dresses but they might be a bit too dressy.

MarshaBrady · 27/09/2013 18:43

That all sounds so nice Linus. Really great style. I particularly love the sound of the black Sportmax leather trimmed dress.

I'd go for those rather than the Me&Em which I'd probably feel a bit dressy in, but might just be me.

foxysocks · 27/09/2013 18:45

i would say dress, bare legs, ankle boots. perhaps a biker if you have one? skinnies and a top also nice but first outfit would be my suggestion.

i didn't see the gap shorts, no, will go and look! one of them nabbed a charity shop pair which are JUST what i want, dammit.

MarshaBrady · 27/09/2013 18:48

Foxy how are those wonderful boots?, I cannot remember the name of the label, argh! How can I forget?

Everyone, what has been your favourite A/W thus far?

MarshaBrady · 27/09/2013 18:50

Fiorentini & Baker that's it!

BrandyAlexander · 27/09/2013 18:53

Marsha, I have hardly bought anything in a/w!

MarshaBrady · 27/09/2013 18:54

Can we nudge you towards those amazing boots Novice Wink

MarshaBrady · 27/09/2013 18:57

Valentino? I think.

BrandyAlexander · 27/09/2013 19:03

They dont have it in my size Marsha! Sob! I am a size 3 or 3.5 and they don't have either. Sob!

AmberNectarine · 27/09/2013 19:08

novice I think your DH and mine must be related - he's very careful with money. Last week he made a vast overpayment on the mortgage but no amount of wheedling could persuade him to spare me a couple of grand for a Chanel tight bastard. Kept wittering on about interest rates. I lost interest and stroked my new shoes.

We used to have 'the talk', but I have now got the measure of what is an acceptable amount to spend from the joint account without raising interest. The rest I use my own salary for Wink

whattowearnow - welcome! I clocked those Vince Camutos in Kurt Geiger last week. They are very Newbury like! I have a pair of VC shoes I wear a lot for work. They have padded soles and are deliciously soft leather. I have been very impressed with them. All US brands seem to have padded soles actually. Catch on UK/Italy/France.

Am back from a fairly disastrous trip to Center Parcs, marred by me having a kidney infection throughout and DS needing a dash to A&E on our first night for dehydration and low blood sugar (had v sore throat and just wouldn't eat or drink) - nightmare. Had two completely sleepless nights on the bounce and have aged approx 8 years. Not quite the reinvigorating break I had hoped for!

LinusDKD · 27/09/2013 19:45

Poor amber! A dehydrated child is a nightmare, I know from experience. And kidney infection, ouch!

foxy bare legs? My bare legs? My short milky white bare legs?

SpaceIsBig · 27/09/2013 19:48

Hi everyone, I was on here a week or so ago asking about synthetic fibres but haven't managed to come back until now. I have just had my outnet delivery though

There was this chunky jumper which I love - it's beautifully soft.

This top which I quite like as an everyday top over a pair of black skinny jeans

I then went slightly mad and also got this bag here. Now I've never really done handbags that much, so definitely a bit out of my comfort zone. It is more for work than anything else so it's probably not very cool, but it seems a nice enough leather bag for £180, but I can't decide whether to keep it because it seems so large. It's 40cm across and I can't work out if it really is too big or it just seems like that because I've been on mat leave so not really carried a bag for a while (nappy bag over pushchair mostly) or is it really quite big?

Haven't read all the thread, but I feel compelled to say, mig, I love that coat.

Drywhiteplease · 27/09/2013 19:51

Bloody hell Amber sounds like you need another break to recover.

Linus love the "stealth fashionista"! Grin. I agree mid level (the dreaded smart/casual) is difficult. I feel more me in a dress/skirt for going out ridiculous bum hang up but often feel too dressed up (although my town is v dressed up) so try to dress them down with shoe boots/ leather jacket thing. Also why I invested in a decent pair of slim/skinnies in black and that silk top from Mint velvet the other day......

Yes my DH looks v earnest when he's doing the visa bill and says " we're a bit hard up this month"...,,,my reply is " you don't know what hard up means" and I ignore him!Grin

I've bought quite a few bits(see pin)...no individual big spend yet but CPW the best thing is the pair of M and S animal print slippers.

No socialising or visitors this weekend....will be immersing myself in strictly and Downton and trying to finish my boring book so I can start my new exciting book.

Cheers, drinking a nice Wine
