A happy and safe place to talk fashion (from high end to high street), beauty and the arts. All welcome to bring a positive state of mind, lots of links and an eye for detail.

Morning. As usual I'm up at 6 with dd whilst everyone sleeps. Still at least it gives me some time to MN Grin.

Loving all the food chat. My friend cooked roasted veg lasagne. Washed down with fizzy rose. Lush. We then ended up watching celebrity super spa on channel 5. The ultimate dross.

dry we do a lot more informal entertaining like that now as I love making salads. We've considered getting rid of the dining room but my parents bought the table and chairs as a wedding gift so I can't bear to get rid and if we did it would just become yet another playroom for the dc.

foxy can't help with granite. We were offered 3 different price brackets (depending on how difficult they were to source) so we went for the cheapest. We've got grey/beige on the work surfaces and black on the island.

Annianni · 14/09/2013 07:38

I can't believe you're entertaining while you've got the builder's in Dry!
Ditto everyone else, your menu sounds scrummy.

My dining room at the moment is a bedroom (until we finish the decorating upstairs)... Then it is going to become a utility room.
But we're creating a new dining room elsewhere more mess, building work and decorating... Oh joy, I can't wait!

Drywhiteplease · 14/09/2013 07:40

sleep will do. I have Nigella Express and Forever summer. If the pork's in another book would you mind photocopying it and bringing it to MU?
Recipe swap....it'll be knitting patterns next Grin
We're just knocking through and making a really big kitchen/diner with bifold doors. My kitchen is big now but the layout annoys me,the table is too close to the oven.the dining room gets used 1/2 times a year and seats 8 but a bit of a squeeze, has also become a general dumping ground. I love big open spaces and light so can't wait...work starts Monday 23!
QueenC we did our kitchen about 5yrs ago...we should have knocked through then but I'd made beautiful curtains, had a wonderful wool rug and dining room table and chairs I couldn't part with. At the beginning of the summer hols I ruthlessly Ebayed the lot .....a bit upsetting but now it's all gone I'm over it! Our dining stable and chairs weren't sentimental though, difficult if your parents gave them as a gift.

BrandyAlexander · 14/09/2013 07:45

Morning all! Lovely evening with dh last night - lasagne and red wineSmile

Weather looks grim today!

Mominatrix · 14/09/2013 07:47

Morning everyone. Was off for a short bit due to feeling very poorly. Looks like I have much to catch up on, but it will have to wait until tonight. Speaking of food, am off to the London Cake and Bake show with DS, who is an avid young baker and wants to stock up on things to make a Minecraft cake. I love to bake also, but am more of a savoury baker.

Looking and feeling very un-Vogue, but I will make an effort this morning to make me feel better. Dark skinnies, low pointy heels, cashmere wide stripy (anvy and green) and baggy jumper, white button down underneath (untucked),loads of bracelets, and a statement ring.

Annianni · 14/09/2013 08:07

I'm decorating today, I'm wallpapering our bedroom ceiling as it's bumpy and I want it smooth.
Every ceiling in this house has got (or had) patterned swirly wallpaper on it, with 53 coats of paint on top (approx)

Underneath the wallpaper is another few layers of gloss paint which have come off in bits (and are still there after lots of sanding)

So when freshly painted the ceiling looks like it has a disease and is making me itch! :o

I can't cope with the plasterer coming to skim it, I've had enough of mess after doing the attic.
So I'll have a go at putting lining paper up

In the fridge for later I have...
An almost full bottle of Stolly
A bottle of prosecco
And several bottles of a fruity cider that tastes like pop
(Just incase) :o

BrandyAlexander · 14/09/2013 08:13

Goodness me Anni, your home decor posts make me admire you and make this face --->Shock in equal measures!

Drywhiteplease · 14/09/2013 08:53

Wallpapering a ceiling?Shock I'm with Novice respect o you Anni

Just had a quick flick of the papers with a strong coffee;

Times magazine, lots of fashion stuff can't wait for Style tomorrow . Brian Ferry at 67 looking so hot, what a stylish guy. Sting on the One Show was looking good for his age last night and in a v nice tweed waistcoat.
Editor of Italian Vogue (in her 60s) looking incredible, giving us all hope.
Pink coats....a trend I will not be doing.
Leather, animal, masculine tailoring and tartan....all doable.
Daily Mail don't judge me .....Alexa Ch book slated, but she was wearing a lovely dress and black suede slippers in the pic I knew we had something in common Grin
Some journalist remade VB dress out of a bedspread , it looks exactly the same Grin pmsl at that!
J Oliver's kids looking so cute. Love Joules...she's a saint.
An interesting beauty bit on anti ageing (Times) and Botox.....wonder if the writer read my Botox thread last week? Seriously contemplating it for my frown lines.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 14/09/2013 10:18

Just dropping in to say hi before embarking upon a long day at Doncaster races for the St Leger. My beautiful hat may not get an outing, however, due to the shitty weather. It's silk and I couldn't risk a drop of rain getting on it - could be a very costly exercise as I hire my hats and I think my lovely lady would be very sad if I ruined it (and possibly never hire to me again)

We are on an invitation today anyway, so much of the afternoon will be spent in a private box with a stunning lunch and very little need to venture outside, although DH and I will have to do a bit of meandering across the course at some point. I'm recycling one of my Ascot dresses, which nobody will see anyway as it will be buried under a coat (or at least a jacket). Donny girls are notorious for baring all in baltic temperatures, so they'll probably think I'm a southern softie which I am. Bovvered?

Dry hope you have a lovely dinner party - it sounds fab. (save me some cake)

Anni get stuck into the contents of the fridge. You may find the ceiling looks fine just how it is after a couple of bottles and not need to do anything at all. You're welcome!

Mig mentioning Rockerfeller Plaza tree just gave me a flashback - I remember watching the lighting concert on NBC last year the week after Thanksgiving. We'd paid my parents a surprise visit and everything felt so festive and fun. The Americans do 'the holidays' so much better.

BrandyAlexander · 14/09/2013 11:00

So, I am wearing my neon sweater newly acquired from j crew. Dh takes one look at it says i think we can safely say that goes into the what you were thinking pile?. I say why and he says well its bright yellow for a start and everyone can see the outline of your bra through it. Don't care! I love it and am keeping it!

I am wearing it with the j crew matchstick jeans - dh redeemed himself by saying he loves those, a North Face anorak (its been pouring all morning!) and Sketchers (on the basis too warm for boots and too wet for ballet pumps). With my leather wrist wrap watch, Aspinal biker bag and wempe diamond and aquamarine cocktail ring, I can safely say I look "eclectic" today. It does sort of work though!

Annianni · 14/09/2013 11:32

Wallpapering a ceiling isn't hard.
3 pieces done, 4 to go!
I don't know what all the fuss was about?! :o

However... it is rather hard to hold my arms in the air long enough to do it and I feel like I might die!

Sleep... Foxy... what exercises can I do to strengthen my arms?

I've got what looks like an assault course set up in the room, 2 dining chairs, one dining bench and a small wooden step is enough for me to walk across the room all in one go.
The ds's think it's great fun!

Annianni · 14/09/2013 11:34

Love those neon J Crew sweater's Novice, I can't wait to wear my pink one.

Annianni · 14/09/2013 11:36

Shop, how are you feeling today?

MarshaBrady · 14/09/2013 13:11

Hello lovely voguettes on this woolly autumn day.

Foxy it does all sound really exciting. Any shopping is good shopping to me! And home stuff is just as good.

Dry too, sounds fab. Yep love the style mags. Need to get hold of The September Issue.

And Anni Shock! Wow good work.

Mom lovely outfit. Very Vogue.

Grumpy have a wonderful day at the races. I'd be the same and in a coat, no way would I freeze. A stunning lunch sounds perfect.

Novice I love that sweater! And the toothpicks, no way what were you thinking pile, bet you look great.

Shop hope all is ok, lovely.

Had a nice morning in the park. I actually love early autumn. Yes remind me in late February to March / April when it's still cold!

Drywhiteplease · 14/09/2013 13:11

Shop sending you some Cake

Annianni · 14/09/2013 13:40

Finished!
My arms are dropping off but it looks good, especially since I've never done a ceiling before.
There's a couple of smears of my blood, from where I cut my arm, but the paint will cover that tomorrow.
Dh was expecting either a trip to casualty or a divorce.
:o

I think I need a nice walk now and some fresh air.

BrandyAlexander · 14/09/2013 14:46

Grrrrr. FFS! I have left my blackberry in NYC.Angry AngryAngry

MarshaBrady · 14/09/2013 15:08

Oh no Novice! argh! Can someone send it to you or is it lost?

Anni well done!

BrandyAlexander · 14/09/2013 15:18

God I have 9 lives! ShockShockThe hotel have it. They will courier it back to me on Monday. I seriously cannot believe I have lost an iPhone, a blackberry and my work security pass in the 4 days. Not to mention my laptop before I went away. I have actually misplaced my front door keys and currently trying to find them without telling dh.Blush he says if work could see what I am really like I wouldn't be in charge of tying shoe laces!Grin Sadly, he's right.

Anyway, I am definitely channeling you today Marsha with the neonSmile

OneLittleLady · 14/09/2013 15:45

Well, as predicted, Soundgarden were amazing last night! Shame I feel so terrible today, I had a cold anyway but it poured it down while we were in the queue so got totally soaked which has made me feel ten times worse today. Absolutely no style or beauty here since I am still in my pjs!

Drywhiteplease · 14/09/2013 16:07

Novice you're working too hard!

foxysocks · 14/09/2013 16:08

novice Shock SO glad they have it! you def have at least nine lives!

first AW wearing of the MNV cashmere today (((group hugs marsha shop ))). with blue skinnies, grey J crew vest underneath and navy converse.

as I cannot add to clothes shopping here are some kitchen links if anyone is interested....

we have chosen a v v dark anthracite grey for the bifold doors with matt chrome handles. i immediately picked out the handles and obv chose the most expensive ones, lol

also had our hands forced on the AGA issue as the kitchen designer/planner we have hired doesn't think the masterchef will fit into out chimney breast. so we are getting this one in black. it was the one I wanted anyway so am v v happy Grin

worktops will be honed granite with a big double belfast sink from villeroy and boch and brushed taps like this.

floors are going to be reclaimed floorboards which I'm going to stain chateau grey. cabinets are all handmade and painted a soft dove grey (tbc) and am having these fab handles

phew! hope that was interesting to at least one of you Smile

Drywhiteplease · 14/09/2013 16:18

Foxy v interested....similar tap and door knobs as me. Love the floor and colour scheme. What colour granite you going for?
I'd like one of these shop's fault! For the kitchen extension.....doubt I'll be allowed.

MarshaBrady · 14/09/2013 16:31

It is to me Foxy! Love all that stuff. Love the taps, we have some like that and the floors and the aga and the handles!

Dry that is very pretty.

Not surprised at the exquisite taste on here.

Novice phew! in capital letters. Hmm I have a habit of turning up without pen or paper Confused. And I really need people to do the trains (would need to planes if I had to do them) in very easy print. That's ok I do the other stuff, I am not the one who organises stuff, so it's ok.

foxysocks · 14/09/2013 16:37

thanks guys! the granite is a very dark charcoal grey. we are getting as much locally as we can, helps me to see and feel and touch all the stuff rather than go by pictures. it's so much money I want to get it right, but at the same time am a fan of making a decision then moving on rather than going over it. that way madness lies.

anni to strengthen arms there is nothing better than chaturanga, or a very low plank. elbows MUST be tucked into the sides of the body, head in line with spine, heels pushed back and strong legs. 40 times per day is approx what you would do in an ashtanga full primary practice.
