A new princessing/defrumping/groomed challenge

HelgatheHairy · 23/08/2013 18:09

So last year on 15th September I started a thread about a 100 day challenge to take us up to Christmas.

There are a few people who are interested in another try this year so this is a preliminary thread to see who's interested and people can gather any things they want. I'm sure most of us have a few face masks and things lying around.

This year I think we should include a defrumping element to the challenge which will focus more on clothes.

The grooming element is about putting the whole look together.

Am I making things too complicated??

The first link has the guidelines for princessing but there are no guidelines for defrumping and grooming.

I have a 13 day old DD so might not always get a chance to come on but will do my best to keep things up to date.

So are people in?

stiffg&t I've been meaning to pick that up - have heard good things about it. I'm using an in shower moisturiser (think its L'oreal?) shower as usual, tilt shower head away, rub on moisturiser (I'm using the dry skin version) and rinse off. I have very dry skin on my legs and this is keeping it under control.

I'm loving people's lists - at the moment baby is refusing to be put down so can't get my list done yet. For a bit later on I've found a salon who do good cheapish treatments. I also live near a town with about 10 high class spas so will keep an eye out for special offers.

INeedSomeHelp · 26/08/2013 19:25

Groupon and itison are always good for deals from spas and beauty salons.
I got a really good deal on a massage at Neal's Yard which I would never have been able to afford otherwise.
I've regularly seen offers for manicures/pedicures and massages, facials and the like. Definitely worth keeping an eye out for.

SlobAtHome · 26/08/2013 19:38

Moisturising will be something I struggle with. I hate feeling sticky and getting dressed (usually in skinnies)

Plus the water thing. Water is yucky

LonelyGoatherd · 26/08/2013 20:57

slob I felt the same about moisturiser, but the Jergens one is non-sticky/greasy.

lucysmam · 26/08/2013 21:08

Right, have watched the shred with dd1, she is going to do the aerobics bits with me every other day....I will take the plunge tomorrow afternoon and give the whole thing a whirl Confused

Slob...The epilator isn't too bad...I only did a bit of one leg to try it out earlier but it doesn't feel any worse than tweezing eyebrows to me! Really ought to carry on and finish both legs Hmm

Just out of the shower because of watching shred with dd. Have exfoliated, moisturised, eye creamed, spot creamed. Need to blow dry and straighten my hair now before my get up and go wanders off Grin

Does whitening toothpaste count as teeth whitening? If so, will add to my town list for tomorrow morning.

& does anyone have any idea how to reduce the appearance of large pores? My face is terrible for them Confused

currentlyconfuseddotcom · 26/08/2013 21:11

I'm going to join in here since I've been an utter slob recently Grin

What I'm going to try to do daily is:

  • lots of teapots of loose herbal tea (can't drink much water)
  • vits, and ceramide supplement (Dr Oz recommended them for skin so I was curious)
  • body brushing
  • shave more regularly
  • coordinate clothes more
  • keep an eye on diet...it's generally good but I do like pizza and pasta
  • remember to use antioxidant serum daily
  • face mask x2 per week
  • lots more walking
  • only one or two glasses wine per week
  • exfoliate feet, elbows and knees
  • coconut oil for hair

I lost my coverup stick recently for a few days and correspondingly lost all interest in my appearance, didn't wear any makeup, didn't care what I wore etc...only found it yesterday and have instantly reverted to being more groomed! It must be my one can't-live-without beauty product.

madamecake · 26/08/2013 21:16

I'm not good at moisturising either, but I like the sound of that in shower one helga.

Not written a list yet but am sat with a face mask on and have painted my toenails. Facial skincare is probably the only area I'm happy with since I started reading Caroline Hiron's blog.

I really think I need to sort my hair out, I have had exactly the same style for over a decade (nearly waist length, dark brown with a few layers), so am going to start looking through magazines for ideas, but not sure I'm brave enough for anything too fashionable!

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 26/08/2013 21:32

Just did my nails! Coloured my hair 2 days ago.

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 26/08/2013 22:32

Right, just chucked all stained/holey/bobbly sad tops and dresses out (why were they even in there?) and made another pile of stuff that's too big/ unflattering for charity!

Had pedi on sat and nearly finished Shred. People who are dithering, go on - I can't recommend it enough.
Six inches off waist and now 10/12 from 14/16 in 2 months (with low carb and bit of 5:2/6:1).

And I continued to drink wine during the process :)

scarlotti · 26/08/2013 22:50

I'm in! Marking my place and have ordered Shred DVD from Amazon... Now to get a lovely notebook Grin

A week to get supplies sorted and a plan of action sounds great.

lucysmam · 26/08/2013 23:27

Trucks what do you do when the shred is done? Just carry on with level 3?

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 26/08/2013 23:44

Buy other Jillian Michaels' dvds? I'd recommend Get ripped in 30 as the next step. Also the yoga one is good and fhe six pack one - I alternate them.

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 27/08/2013 00:02

I'm going to do Shred With Weights next, mixed with 6week6pack and use level 3 of current original thread for days when 25 mins is all I can spare...

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 27/08/2013 00:03

Thread? Shred!

Rummikub · 27/08/2013 00:07

I have painted my nails! I haven't had painted my nails in years. I think it might be approaching 7 years?? Feels weird. But nice.

Lavenderhoney · 27/08/2013 00:23

I am dithering over going to the gym and running on the treadmill or doing the 6p6w Gillian DVD. Which one would work best? I have the dreaded cs overhang and its Got To Go!

I have begun to de frump my wardrobe and have thrown out all old underwear so I need to hit the shops now:)

I have also bought so gel blusher which is fab, and binned the powder I have been using for years.

Bed late tonight but have added moisturising my neck and decotellage (sp) twice a day as well as my face, with proper cream.

I have also slathered cream on my feet at bedtime ( can't abide socks on in bed) so hoping none of the dc wake up and I end up slithering all over tbe place:)

TheYamiOfYawn · 27/08/2013 06:59

Had a bath last night, with hair oil, all-over exfoliation, shaving, pushing back cubicles and a face mask. I also took off my toenail varnish. I'll leave them bare for a few days before doing them a less summery colour ready for 1st September. Probably Rouge Noir. Payday today, so I can buy/order whitening strips, footers and stock up on hand cream.

Gracie990 · 27/08/2013 07:15

Lavender, I do the shred and I run. When I started the shred I was knackered the cardio was so hard. A month in i started running 30 mins a day. Now I find the shred doesn't make me sweaty as there isn't enough cardio.
I find the combination of the two very effective, I shred in the morning and run in the evening and the flab has fallen off. I'm just about to start 6w6p as my tum needs a bit of work. It is the weights in the shred that make the difference, they really tone.

I also watch my calories, not obsessively just in order to not overeat as that would make the excercise pointless.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 27/08/2013 07:24

What is the hot lemon water in the morning supposed to do?

Cocochops · 27/08/2013 08:40

Morning all have been lurking for a couple of days while I figure out my list.
Ds is now four months old so am sick of feeling a mess and should have a bit more time to look after myself now.

Daily
1 eight glasses of water
2 hot water lemon in morning
3 no alcohol in week
4 7 portion fruit veg daily
5 body brush
6 nightly hot cloth cleanser serum eye cream
7 foot cream at night/ hand cream after hand wash
8 vitamins
9 general maintenance e.g remove polish when chipped tweeze stray hairs etc
10 basic natural make up
11 body moisturiser

Weekly or more
10 run 3 times a week
11 one early night 9pm
12 paint nails
13 at home facial
14 hair treatment
15 exfoliate

Monthly or more
16 haircut every 3 months
17 wax
18 salon facial or massage every other month

Ongoing
Sort out wardrobe. I have recently ad my colours done but due to then being pregnant have not really embraced it. I have a style day booked so once I have had that done I plan to seriously sort out the wardrobe.

So I really need to make the effort with the water and fruit veg as I find I get to the end of the day having drunk about 2 glasses of water!

Exercise here has been pretty non existent for about a year so am looking forward to getting back into the running. Also have the shred somewhere so at have to dig that out.

So far today have body moisturised, make up on - this makes such a difference must not be lazy with this, drinking hot lemon, one portion fruit for breakfast, about to remove chipped polish!

Goinggreytoosoon · 27/08/2013 09:41

Im joining in too, i deperatly need this. Ive just ordered some skincare stuff from superdrug. Will book for hair once kids are back to school. What do i do with the lemon?! Do i half one and squeeze into a mug of hot water?

TheYamiOfYawn · 27/08/2013 10:10

I just booked a colour anyways with House of Colour for 12 October. The lady seemed really nice - very enthusiastic and a little bit motherly.

QueenofLouisiana · 27/08/2013 10:21

So, managed to blow dry hair this morning, not wash and go. Have decided to go shopping without DS today....whoop!

Progress, I think!

HelgatheHairy · 27/08/2013 10:22

I found this site which gives the benefits of hot water & lemon for anyone wondering why it's on the list.

I'm in. Need a good AQ overhaul. I am doing a version of Project 333 too, YamiofYawn, actually am clearing and packing clothes right now. (I say a version because I am not counting my accessories.). My main things to focus on are diet, nails and taking vitamins, I am already pretty good with no boozing, skincare and occasionally Shredding. I'm also going to commit to using my IPL hair remover properly.

I had gel on my toenails this summer for the first time ever and loved it, but stupidly peeled it off myself in the bath Blush. Can I never go back? I'd love to get more but feel I'll get in trouble.
