HoC Spring thread....

BeginnerSAHM · 12/08/2013 19:00

This is a thread for all of us who have had their colours done' by House of Colour and are a Spring. (And 'believe' in it...Wink.) Or, by CMB and are 'clear and warm'. Think a few other CMB catergories might be spring too - 'soft and warm' maybe/' warm and clear' (different from 'clear and warm' because of the order of priorities/dominance...)?

Feel free to ask any Spring-related fashion/make-up/style questions on this thread.... (I won't know the answer but lots of people on these boards will!)

So, I'll start with a 'spring' question.... I never wear lipstick. I occasionally wear neutral-ish lipgloss on a night out but never reapply during the evening so it's always gone within the first 20 mins. I know as a spring, I 'should'. Can anybody suggest a Revlon lip butter that is springish? I gather they are more sheer than full lipstick so might be a good way for me to start trying lip colour out! Thank you

Nice coat Aque. Have been giving fuddled lots of glances as I love them. Not sure they suit me though as I'm quite tall.
I had my customary rummage round charities and found a Aquascutum coat in teal type colour which I couldn't resist. Not sure if I look a bit granny ish! Think I need to invest in a spring umbrella with all this rain...
Bought a blusher from boots natural collection called 'peach Melba' or something... Hope it ll do the trick for £1.99! Grin

Aquelven · 19/10/2013 23:53

I love Natural Collection Eyeshadows. Great, wearable matt colours & so cheap. The cream coloured one & the taupe/brown ( Walnut I think) are my every day staples.
I always envy your charity finds, the shops round here are full of Primark worn out tat.

Fooogle · 21/10/2013 05:40

So, what ll you all whip on today springs? I'm in work so will probably be a shirt and trouser combo. Would like to wear more skirts but I always feel I have to think more in the morning to put that outfit together Grin. Very disorganised!
Do you guys wear skirts often? If so how? I did but some grey Spanx in tk maxx yesterday so...

Aque, sorry for the charity gloats. It's a bit of an obsession, time not terribly well spent!

Mumelie · 21/10/2013 08:48

Morning Springs!
I'm off work ill with a bug today but still managing to wear my colours with a turquoise hoodie and navy yoga pants! No make up and bed hair scraped back so sure I look lurvly Grin

I wear skirts and dresses most of the time to work - find dresses easier - don't have to think what goes with what. I have an array of cropped cardis in lots of spring colours to put over the top.

I used to buy loads in charity shops - good pickings where I live - but rarely have the time now I'm back at work (plus a bit more £ to spend on clothing now).
Right off to the sofa for some day time tv Wink

Fooogle · 21/10/2013 14:02

Thanks Mumelie. Hope you feel better soon (or enjoy the rest!)

Yes, dresses are good aren't they, forgot that they are easier as they are the whole outfit in one... I've got some scars on one arm so I tend to find them more tricksy as often they are short or 3/4 length sleeves but I must try to reinvigorate my dress department! Also, my body is quite long so often the waist hits me too high up and I look like my (ample already) bum is really long! Grin, the joy of dressing eh!

Aquelven · 21/10/2013 17:21

Hope you're soon feeling better, Mumelie.

Oh no, Fooogle, don't apologise! I love reading of your charity finds, just a bit miffed that the shops here aren't such treasure troves.
I'm in black, comfy pull on trousers, turquoise vest & slouchy grey striped sweatshirt, stay at home day today so afraid not made much effort.

No, I don't wear dresses or skirts much. I have some lurking in the wardrobe but having the dogs they involve too much, " GET DOWN", scratched legs & laddered tights Confused so it's easier to just pull on jeans or trousers.

Mumelie · 21/10/2013 17:38

Thanks, I'm feeling a bit better after a day of rest (ish - sorted out winter clothes and boots!), which is good because DD and DH have now complained of feeling poorly (and they are not much use when they are well) so guess I'm nursemaid now!
Know what you mean re fit of dresses - I'm very curvy (a size 12 but go in and out a lot!), so I tend to go for jersey without too much definition (which I can add with a belt - my 'splash').
Anyone any good ideas of how to Spring-up black jumpers without resorting to scarves all the time - they mat my hair up? There is at least another years wear in them so cant afford to replace as yet. I can wear black if I wear bright lippy and am not tired (rare)!

Fooogle · 21/10/2013 19:36

How about necklaces Mumelie? I tend to go for chunky ones... Or silk scarves? Depends how into vintage y stuff you are perhaps for that one... ? I'm investigating a craft idea for making necklaces out of old tshirts? Sounds naff but some look quite nice. Finding time to do it is only justified As having to do something like it for work but google if you feel inclined!
Jersey dresses good idea. Any good sources?
Yes aque know what you mean about trousers, with little people its the same! Almost even say 'get down'!

Mumelie · 21/10/2013 19:52

Thanks Fooogle - I don't tend to wear necklaces but think I'll give it a go. Silk scarves could be good, I have some vintage ones but sadly they are all black print! I do have a collection of old brooches so might try those too. You have inspired me! It's mostly for work so smart vintage iyswim. Your necklace idea sounds interesting. I used to make silver jewellery - wish I still had the time Sad

I get Jersey dresses all over the place (mostly ebsy!). I like Phase 8, Boden, White Company etc - stuff you can wear and wash over and over again. Funny though I do not but my casual or going out clothes at those shops - more Oasis, Warehouse or H&M!!!

Aquelven · 21/10/2013 20:40

I suppose if the black jumpers aren't too thick we could wear a cardy over them & save on the heating bills! I'm in the same boat with black jumpers, well black everything really. I blame the fashion mags, always telling us it's so stylish Hmm

Aquelven · 21/10/2013 20:45

Oh & finally having been able to dump the crutch, & fit in yet more of my boots Grin DH has treated me.....to a walking stick Confused but I found one online that folds down to fit in a handbag & came in colours & patterns, so I picked a springy one patterned in bright blue & coral flowers......yeah! How dedicated to the cause is that eh?

Mumelie · 21/10/2013 21:32

Cardi is also a very Good idea Aque - thanks, most of my jumpers are fine knit and work is freezing! Love the sound of your Springy walking stick! Very funky

jumpinghoops · 21/10/2013 23:11

Grin Aque, that sounds great!

Fooogle · 22/10/2013 09:44

Aque the ultimate spring accessory I think! Not v springy here today in the gloom. Cream blouse with sequin collar...browny trousers and the tan 'work boots'!

BirdyBedtime · 22/10/2013 17:06

Hi all
Have been dead busy do have been off the grid for a few days. Will have to have a look at all of your recommendations above. After buying my Lands End coat I've been sent a brochure and am a bit scared to find myself contemplating some of their basics although I am a bit worried that it makes me sound ancient (still just the right side of 40).

BirdyBedtime · 22/10/2013 17:07

BTW great to hear you are off the crutches Aque.

Aquelven · 22/10/2013 19:58

Thank you Smile

I'm sort of spring top half but not any lower Confused. Turquoise cashmere jumper, not new, & black pants. At lunchtime I nipped in Boots & bought Clinique Runway Coral lippy but not had time to try it on yet as been dashing about like the proverbial all day.
Your blouse sounds lovely, Fooogle, & very posh Smile
I've never looked at Lands End, is this something else to tempt me?
If you're ancient, at the right side of forty, I must be Methuselah's mother Confused

Mumelie · 22/10/2013 21:25

Evening all Wink
I'm very non spring today - no time to think this morning as ill family to care for AND get ready for work! Red and Black floral dress from Wallis with black tights and chelsea ankle boots and a Black cropped boden Cardi. All goes together well but not good colours as I'm so tired.Sad

I was encouraged by your charity shop finds Fooogle and popped into my local one after work. Picked up a Next cream lace blouse and a navy silky evening top for £7 bargain!

Tomorrow I promise to be more Spring - scarves lipstick and 3 Colours (no Black) Grin

Fooogle · 23/10/2013 00:11

Aque, my blouse is not as flash as it sounds! H and m finest... Bit on the hot side actually... Not natural fibres!

mumelie hope your brood get well quick. Impressed at your charity items and glad you were inspired. I missed one of my usual rummaging chances yesterday as lots of errands, so sure i ve missed lots of treasure! Grin

Joycey29 · 23/10/2013 07:10

Morning! Missed my lippy and scarf call yesterday as half term with three dc is hectic!!
Off to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory today!
Wearing either
Blue leggings, grey tunic and scarf
Or
Skinny jeans, French navy best and cream and blue jacket!

Decisions! Decisions!

BeginnerSAHM · 23/10/2013 09:38

Joycey - I vote for skinny jeans, French navy vest etc! Shame on you not wearing scarf and lippy on a Tuesday Wink. I wore lippy and earrings yesterday as had to go to court (not for me!). Dull navy and black outfit though!

BeginnerSAHM · 23/10/2013 10:09

Hi again - any ideas for superdrug springy make-up? Fed up with expensive bobbi brown/mac mistakes!

OP posts:
BirdyBedtime · 23/10/2013 13:17

Aque - I think it's just because I'm sure I've heard others on MN decrying Lands End as fogey-ish. There are some items that would fall into that category, but loads of shirts, polo necks, plain tops etc that would be great basics and look good quality. Even better with the 25% off code they sent me on the back of buying the coat.

I managed scarf and lippy yesterday (although the scarf was a bit beige!).

In a good springy blue and red dress today with navy tights, red pumps and red scarf.

I can't help much on the make-up front Beginner. I only wear the minimum (foundation, powder and lippy) or if I'm going out a bit of brown eyeshadow. I'm actually amazed by the amount of make-up chat here - do you all have loads?

alemci · 23/10/2013 13:43

lands end is fine and the quality is good. I bought a pair of trousers and some track bottoms for £7.50 each

Mumelie · 23/10/2013 13:58

No scarf or lippie here today - day off work with poorly DD as poorly DH has to go into work Sad for a meeting.
I am wearing dove grey skinnies, a Boden Breton top in cream, navy and red stripe, and my black slipper boots Wink. No make-up at all! Getting cabin fever now - need to get out of the house.
I have lots of make-up Birdy - although had a cull recently as half of it was the wrong colours (too dusky). I love my Urban Decay Naked 2 palette for eyeshadow - I use that every day and try to vary it. Numerous brown mascaras and eyeliners. Not very exciting No7 foundation and powder. Just tried the Collection 2000 liquid concealer mentioned on another thread and its fab. I wear a HoC blusher in Rosewood. Lipstick is my big thing - lots of reds and bright corals. Cant comment on Superdrug make-up as I only have a Boots near me.
Like the sound of your outfit too Birdy, very Spring.
