Shiny new thread for some shiny new perfumes (and classics and niche brands)

OP posts:

Hooray! yes it is IScentYouADay! ooh I feel famous.

I'm trying a perfume a day for a year.

(Apart from the occasional day when the kids have worn me out and I'm hoping nobody notices that there is a day missing now and then)

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 15/06/2013 13:14

Do people have a favourite perfume?

At the start of my blog, I had one favourite, and now I have about fifteen. It changes every week though!

Balmain Jolie Madame, Lanvin Arpege, Eau de Cartier, JLo Deseo, SJP Lovely, Chanel Cristalle, Tauer Incense Rose, A Scent by Issey Miyake, Apres L'Ondee (took me a few months, but I love it now). I could go on...

Fuzzybirds · 15/06/2013 21:31

My absolute favourite is Chanel Coco. Nothing else quite hits the spot. Chamade nearly did but I still come back to Coco, I think it's the love of my life Grin

SOTD is L'Air du Desert Marocain- it's more wearable than I first thought. Once the more masculine opening has worn off and the sweetness comes through, I don't think it would offend anyone but is in a league of its own. Even wore it to soft play today! And I still catch the odd waft some 12 hours after first applying, hmmm wondering if I should get a decant...

florascotia · 15/06/2013 21:40

It's now 24 hours since I sent my message about Yatagan
(appears on p 9 of this thread)

Have had just one PM, so will send bottle to that messager. Offer now closed!

ToysRLuv · 16/06/2013 13:34

OLL: you're braver than me.. You will probably either love it or hate Yatagan! I know Frugal loves hers..

SOTD: Carnal Flower. Big tuberose. DH recoiled at the smell (what's not to like?! Confused Grin )- Happy fathers' day DH! Well, I'll bake a banana cake later. A card from Waitrose will have to suffice - DS doesn't really like crafts beyond making a mess.

CointreauVersial · 17/06/2013 13:46

I tried Bronze Goddess at the weekend - lovely! It reminded me of something else in my sample collection, but I couldnt think what. I tried CB I Hate Perfumes At the Beach 1966 this morning to see if that was it, but I don't think so (not over-keen on that one; it reminds me of cheap body lotion, or hotel soap).

I stopped off on my way home this morning at the local lavender farm, and bought a little bottle of their essential oil, so I'm in lavender heaven at the moment.

FrugalFashionista · 17/06/2013 13:49

I don't have a favorite perfume - I enjoy too many.
Over the past days it has been Pulp by Byredo. Figs, strawberries, bananas, God knows what - Carmen Miranda's hat full of overripe fruit and happiness, and so refreshing on a sweltering day.

Enjoying the new blog Chocs - a great way to organize one's thoughts on perfume. Let us know if you need more material to blog about Wink

OLL if you don't like Yatagan, send it to Harum!

The dog days of summer are challenging for a perfumista. 33C today, cologne weather.

ToysRLuv · 17/06/2013 15:50

SOTD: L'Artisan Mon Numero 7. Nice, soapy spicy scent, but probably a better masculine..

wiltingfast · 17/06/2013 18:54

Sotd my bargain chanel 19 :) I enjoyed it but not sure this the weather for it, it's warm and sticky here. It was gone off my skin in no time. Makes me feel v sophisticated tho!

HarumScarum · 17/06/2013 19:06

I love Yatagan but didn't want to be greedy about the FB as I can afford to buy one. But yes, if OLL hates it and there are no other takers, I would be happy to give it a good home.

SOTD Chergui. Lovely lovely lovely. Very comforting and friendly, somehow. My allergies are abating.

OLL, I will send the violets by the end of the week and let you know when they are on their way. I have your address.

BelleDameSansMerci · 17/06/2013 19:38

Well, I got my Tom Ford Black Violet sample. I like it. Ex likes it - very sexy apparently. BUT I don't think I like it enough to shell out the £140 price tag. I'm disappointed really. It seemed a bit "thin" and, although it lasted, it was just a bit "meh".

Violet Blonde on its way (along with a load of others). We shall see.

SOTD was the Black Violet.

wiltingfast · 17/06/2013 21:39

ooo violet blonde, I def want a sample of that... Can't wait to hear how you get on.

OneLittleLady · 17/06/2013 21:40

I would have shared harum ! I didn't want to be greedy either Blush I shall await the violets eagerly Grin

HarumScarum · 17/06/2013 21:47

No no, you're not being greedy! Don't give it another thought. I didn't mean it like that!

Hope you enjoy the violets. They were a lovely gentle way to spend my time while I was being itchy.

I really really like Violet Blonde. It edges a bit far into musky territory for me but there's something very charming and playful about it. Haven't tried Black Violet but I think I probably should.

ToysRLuv · 18/06/2013 14:12

OH MY SH*T. It has been pointed out to me by the wonderful post office that you're not supposed to send perfumes abroad, because they are flammable. Even to Europe! Jeez. What about all those duty-free bottles of whisky people carry on board? Have to cancel two e-bay sales and will no doubt get negative feedback Sad . Ridiculous!

Looked at the post office website and from what I can gather, you're not meant to be sending perfume in the mail AT ALL. NOT EVEN INSIDE THE UK! WTF..

Angry Sad

ToysRLuv · 18/06/2013 14:14

SOTD: A sample of Louve I just got in the post (EVEN THOUGH IT's SOOOO DANGEROUS!). Love the Louve (bakewell tarts), but still pissed off.

HarumScarum · 18/06/2013 14:39

Toys, everyone in the world is still doing it! Just don't say it's perfume. I have had about six samples delivered in the past week or so and none of them said they were perfume on the outside and they all got here fine.

ToysRLuv · 18/06/2013 14:46

I know, I know. But I still don't want to rink sending abroad.. Within UK, fair enough, they probably won't scan it, but going abroad they will! The Diorella is not full, so makes a sort of sploshy noise, so they will definitely suspect foul play..

Also, I read some weird thing about rules changing this summer so you are allowed to send perfume officially within the UK? It's all so confusing, and I don't want to ask in the post office.. that will make me even more suspicious looking that I am now. I just kind of stormed out with a huff, with all my parcels. If I go back there now, they will pull me up on it. Will have to take a bus to the post-office in town now. Angry

ToysRLuv · 18/06/2013 16:43

Ahem, glass ornament, anyone? Blush

FrugalFashionista · 18/06/2013 16:45

Toys the new euphemisms are 'cosmetics samples' and 'beauty samples'. I only send the tiniest vials and minis that can be sent without visiting the nosey post office as regular letters.

There are a lot of small, stupid things that frustrate perfumistas - UK mail restrictions, Italian customs and sneaky reformulations being the main ones Toys, in some countries (you know what I'm talking about) the only chance to get just about any decent perfumes is by mail Sad I'm stocking up for the rest of my life Grin while still in perfume heaven (=Italy) Wink

SOTD Eau Sauvage.

ToysRLuv · 18/06/2013 16:49

Never realised the extend of the restrictions.. thought it was just US, Australia, etc. that were a problem. Sad Angry

That's it after I've sold my current fbs, I'll only ever buy and sell small things. Less suspicious.

BelleDameSansMerci · 18/06/2013 18:30

Heavens! I had no idea...

So, ex and DP both like Black Violet. I'm still undecided. Tried White Patchouli today (which arrived courtesy of Royal Mail Grin ). Not sure about it. Will give it another go tomorrow.

SOTD White Patchouli.

I've ordered samples from the US... Wonder if they will arrive?

ToysRLuv · 18/06/2013 18:44

Belle: My samples have always come from the US alright - latest ones came today from luckyscent. I think you'd struggle to get a fb through, though..

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 18/06/2013 18:57

Is that true about not sending perfumes WITHIN the UK? Surely that's going to mean that firms like Cheap Smells can no longer operate? I've been selling loads on ebay with no trouble.

ToysRLuv · 18/06/2013 19:00

I think it doesn't apply to companies.

www.postoffice.co.uk/prohibited-items

It is all very confusing.
