I hope this is still acceptable!

Dresses are so, so short everywhere!

Leggings mean I don't have to fake tan Blush and keep me warm!

Will you be wearing leggings this summer?

Yes I will because I'm too overweight & my thighs chafe Blush

BegoniaBampot · 24/05/2013 23:22

Love wide linen trousers with tight cut off top and sandals or flip flops - so stuck in a time warp but loving my new leggings so don't make me feel that they are so passé!

I'm not normally a Fat Face type, but this dress is bloody gorgeous on.

Leggings would be ruinous, non?

ifancyashandy · 24/05/2013 23:28

I wear mid thigh with pride! And probably shorter. And am over 40.

ifancyashandy · 24/05/2013 23:32

Eleanor you are totally correct. Do NOT wear that dress with leggings!

this is my recent purchase (in the navy). Leggings would kill it I think.

VerySmallSqueak · 24/05/2013 23:44

I am short and think I look a little stout with leggings on under anything that's longer than mid thigh.

bedmonster · 24/05/2013 23:49

ifancy that dress is lovely and leggings would definitely kill it, I agree. However, I would never wear it as it's too short to wear without them!
Wear it with pride.
Confidence always makes your clothes look better. :)

bedmonster · 24/05/2013 23:49

However, wide legged linen trousers I cannot understand!

TeaAddict235 · 25/05/2013 00:04

When's summer?
Let me know where and when it arrives.

ifancyashandy · 25/05/2013 00:12

Thanks Bed! I have flaws as many as the next person but I've got cracking pins so I do get 'em out!

ToastedTeacakes · 25/05/2013 01:16

I don't wear leggings (don't even own any I don't think) because they're just not 'me'. But I don't understand why there are such strong views about them. Whenever I see other women wearing them under dresses I think they look great. Don't have a problem with it at all, likewise with tunics, etc.

Not fond of the leggings as pants thing, regardless of figure I just don't think it works on anyone.

allagory · 25/05/2013 01:35

The rules are simple. If it is a fashion that does the fat of body any favours or offers any hiding place(waterfall cardigans, dresses with sleeves, long skirts, bootleg trousers, leggings under short dresses) the fashion answer is no and the real world answer is yes for 2 or 3 years after that. Until that turns into a no too.

ToastedTeacakes · 25/05/2013 02:11

I like this look

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 25/05/2013 02:12

DRESSES WITH SLEEVES ARE A NO-NO?!

ye gods. what rot.

bettycocker · 25/05/2013 05:27

If this summer is as bad as last year, I'll be wearing jeans.

HoneyandRum · 25/05/2013 06:34

The fashionable length this year is Midi - narrow and not quite halfway down the calf. If you can splurge on a couple of those your problem is solved. No leggings necessary.

Pinkflipflop · 25/05/2013 06:39

I'm quite excited that this thread has been so popular but now I am more confused than ever!

OP posts:
BsshBossh · 25/05/2013 07:34

Dependson the dress. Floaty, summery things - no; but slightly thicker tunic dresses or skirts in uniform colour -yes (but only when the air is nippy).

Fairylea · 25/05/2013 07:36

I will be. Its too bloody cold not to!

lljkk · 25/05/2013 07:48

Absolutely Yes, if I wear dresses at all, that is. Love my Leggings.
Don't have nice legs, anyway, they look better encased.

bingeddybongo · 25/05/2013 07:49

YES! I don't like getting my legs out at all: leggings and dresses are my uniform Grin

lljkk · 25/05/2013 07:56

I would wear almost all those dresses with leggings AND with cardigans or jumpers. Yes a skirt would be better but I don't see why I can't use the dress like a skirt when it suits me. If it's warm enough to go without the cardigan it probably is warm enough to go without the leggings, too (on Mars or in Spain or somewhere else definitely not Britain).

Of course you all know Britons waste a huge amount of money on summer clothes they never or hardly ever wear, so best to find ways to make our wardrobe items versatile.

flipflump · 25/05/2013 08:29

I'm in dresses and leggings already! It's the only thing I find comfortable with a big bump. Hoping the weather will improve and I can ditch the leggings soon. It really doesn't matter what others think, if you're happy when you look in the mirror and feel good, plus be comfortable then why worry. I estimate around 10% Brits follow fashion trends and the majority of those are 19-20 year old students. The rest of us aim to look good, I wouldn't describe that as being fashionable.

MrsO27 · 25/05/2013 08:43

No, that trend is definetely passed! You would be better off with sheer tights if you don't like being bare, or a longer dress Wink. You get special sheer tights for disguising varicose veins. My mum got some last year for my wedding. Think they were M&S.
