I hope this is still acceptable!

Dresses are so, so short everywhere!

Leggings mean I don't have to fake tan Blush and keep me warm!

Will you be wearing leggings this summer?

Agree that leggings that aren't totally opaque, with a short top, ain't a good look no matter how modelicious you are. I have to resist the urge to perform a close pass while yelling "I can see your pants!!!"

Definitely yes! Although - not with anything tailored/very smart/like you'd wear for a wedding.

Summer shifts & tunics etc were made for leggings!

I wear mine with flat gladiator sandals in gold or tan and similar coloured bag, always feel chic. If it's a chilly day I will wear with ballet flats but prefer flat sandals (but not Clarks type sensible sandals - they have to be boho/dainty/gladiator type sandals). Toenails must be painted too/feet maintained. I always feel dainty in summer dress, gladiator flats and long leggings!

Also I only wear ankle length leggings. Short leggings are extremely hard to wear, they don't look very elegant and long leggings emphasise the slimness of your ankles Smile

Also, even though I have lived by the coast for the last 5 years I am still not used to the chilly coastal wind so leg coverage is essential for warmth!

Not a look that I like. I don't like footless tights either and hated that thing a few years ago when people wore leggings or footless tights with gladiator sandals and a summer frock. I was in a minority of one in my workplace though.

If you've not got the legs, wear a longer skirt. A knee-length skirt (the midi) is very now (sorry, went a bit Gok Wan then).

Spink Thanks

Pagwatch, Thanks to you too. My sensible head knows that - honest - but the part of me that is so very Sad about my weight gain at the moment isn't so sure.

I am usually very good at keeping words on a screen in perspective. I think this just hit a raw note today, because I was already worrying about what to wear to an event in June that's important to my family, but for which I have no clue how to dress. Just before I noticed this thread I was trying to reconcile the fact that I want to wear trousers to hide my legs, with the fact that I know many of the styles out there just aren't going to flatter my current shape.

Since my injury (early last August - on crutches until Christmas and now on verrry slow physio/rehab) all the hard earned muscle I determinedly shredded into place on my legs has gone wobbly and my fugly knees (hated since childhood) are back. All brought to a head by vainly hoping I could start working out again, only to be told not to be so daft at this week's physio appointment. Hmm

I'm sure you look absolutely beautiful moosemama, and best of luck on your ongoing physio Flowers

Thank you LittleDirewolf. I don't, but it's a very kind thought. Smile

Aww it's shit isn't it moosemama.
I wasn't able to excercise for about three months as I had post viral illness and every time I tried to start I would do a couple of workouts then get ill again. Very frustrating and I find not being able to do anything just makes me ill tempered and I eat crap all the time.
Mind you, even when I am light my knees still look like they belong on a baby elephant.

Of course your sensible head knows that no one will be looking at you with a critical eye and will just be happy to see you. Hope the event goes well Smile

No. But then again I have brown skin and thin legs. I would look ridiculously like a scarecrow in leggings. In any event, it's not a good look, frankly. Unless you are an anorexic teenager and it is raining. Then, maybe ...

That's it exactly Pag. I get so frustrated being stuck in the house unable to do anything that I end up eating crap and making things worse. I have a long-term plan to get back to where I was, but it's never going to happen if I can't stop eating chocolate. Blush

The alternative is of course doing what I did last weekend and going out and being active anyway - which resulted in a whole week of rest and probably another lecture from my physio - but hey, I enjoyed it while it lasted. Grin

I will be sure to wear my sensible head for the event, regardless of whatever else I end up wearing! Grin

Thanks

No definitely not!

No need for leggings. If you want to cover your legs, wear close fitting trousers, maybe cropped, in a dark colour with some Elastane or Lycra. And with a long top/tunic, not a floral summer dress!

There are summer dresses to suit every figure, so that's not an excuse.

I'm wondering where the legging-wearers who claim to be fashionable live... Grin

Yes if the dress is significantly above the knee. No if it is longer than that. I have very fair skin and my legs are pink and white. Fake tan doesn't hide the pink and just makes orange streaks....!

What's wrong with tights, you can't wear sandals with tights!

As a person who only wears boots or sandals leggings rock. You can wear sandals if it ever warms up and boots if it doesn't.

Sits typing this wrapped in a fleece blanket.

Probably. I wear dresses and leggings all winter too Grin

Might get the legs out in the garden...

No the leggings. It ruins a dress imo.

I'm wearing a knee length dress this weekend. Fake tan and oiled legs will be my friends.

i am AGOG at the idea that people are proposing jeans under dresses as a better look than leggings. And at those who would wear 'second skin' tights in summer or indeed at any time. Why not just go the whole hog and pull on some American Tans?

Yamyoid · 24/05/2013 22:49

I can't afford to buy the perfect dress to suit my figure so I love the fact I can wear any style dress when I like the fabric/pattern...I mean leggings give me freedom to wear little floaty floral shorts or a sheer jersey summer dress.
My legs are awful but I don't want to be limited to bloody boring linen trousers like pps have suggested.
Nothing wrong with plain trousers but there's so many pretty dresses that I now feel able to wear.
So I'll probably be wearing dresses and leggings forever Smile

I live in leggings and dresses. I am farking gawjuss.

IMO knee length dresses are frumpy, tights in the summer is just strange.

I wear full length leggings with sandals. I have lovely legs which helps, but am not going to go bare legged upto mid thigh, which is where most dresses seem to come down to.

Where do you all buy knee length dresses from that isn't M&S? I don't think I've ever seen one!!

Boden, innit?

can i once again state my AGOG-ness that anyone even wears wide linen trousers any more? I thought everyone knew that unless you're six foot tall they make you look like a battleship from behind?

Hey that's what I feel about knee length dresses! I have never seen one that isn't dowdy but am prepared to be corrected!
I also think the streaky fake tan look with glaring white soles of feet should be avoided at all costs, but it's all personal taste Wink
