Zatchels flash sale

AllTalkNo · 19/04/2013 17:27

Zatchels are having a 24 hour 50% off sale tomorrow. It's advertised on their Facebook page. I'm tempted but don't know whether to go for a classic colour (probably the navy) or one of the metallics. Has anyone ordered from them and could you recommend a colour? Thanks!

Thing is, Sunday, all of that is totally understandable/forgiveable, as long as they communicate. Which they don't!

It's bad enough to not reply to emails, the phone, FB messages etc... but to then hear that some people have had an update when others haven't is peculiarly shite!

OK - 5 bags - which did you like, any that you were disappointed with? Were all what you expected? I am still not sure if I will place an order for the bags that I couldn't order that day...

Theonlyoneiknow · 25/05/2013 10:24

Agree, I don't mind waiting so much but I do mind that nobody answers the phone or replies to emails, and that quite a lot of money has been charged to my account (I ordered four bags). I am just hoping I don't have to return any of them when they do eventually arrive!

Am guessing they will never do a flash 50% off sale again!!

squalorvictoria · 25/05/2013 16:23

They did have a clue about how popular the sale would be. After the first 24 hours they would have known they'd received a phenomenal number if orders. And somehow the sale got extended for another 17 hours.

I can only imagine they extended out of greed, because they must have known they were going to have SERIOUS trouble fulfilling the orders and responding to customers.

The Brandalley sale confuses me. The stuff is available for immediate despatch, so they must have had a significant stockpile reserved for Brandalley, when that same stockpile could have been used to fulfil sale orders.

Tbh they've shot themselves in the foot. If they can sell current styles at 40-50% off, who on earth is ever going to buy full price again.

Oh, and I ordered a saddle bag too. Looks like these were left until last Confused

Roobot · 25/05/2013 16:56

I am still waiting fr two bags. I got my floral little satchel, and I love it, so don't mind waiting too much for the others!! I spoke to a very nice woman at Zatchels the other day (maybe wednesday or thursday), and she said the delay was because they had run out of the chestnut leather, although it was now back in stock, so they are getting on with things.
I was assured that they were working as quickly as possible. Admittedly they didn't reply to my facebook question, but the woman on the phone was lovely so my faith in zatchels has been restored!

dexter73 · 25/05/2013 17:03

I've just emailed to cancel my order. It's a bit of a joke that they have had my money for 5 weeks now and no sign of a bag for maybe a few more.

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 25/05/2013 17:11

I want the metallic purple one!

It's a small UK business which we should be supporting. It's actually local to me and I would hate to see another UK business outsource production to India or China.

I think it was poor that they took payment immediately rather than waiting until dispatch (except for special orders) but they may not have sufficient credit with suppliers to have coped with orders.

Can they be cut some slack? If you really, really wanted something that was out of stock in store/online would you buy an alternative or would you wait until it was back in stock?

Lots of lessons for this fledgling UK business to learn and I hope to see if employing locals for many, many years to come and producing top quality British designs.

I do not work for the business nor do I know anyone who works there or is connected with the business in anyway!

dexter73 · 25/05/2013 18:33

I emailed [email protected]

Tbh I didn't really want the bag and only ordered it because I got caught up in the ordering frenzy, which is why I have cancelled.

SundaySimmons · 25/05/2013 21:55

Hazelthemcwitch, my first order for my daughter and i and a present was pastel cream 13" with handle, pastel pink 13" without handle and pastel blue 14.5" without handle. They are all lovely but the 14.5 is a better size and I wish all three were 14.5 especially as the blue one is for a present!

I then ordered a red 13" which is for a present for my sons girlfriend. It's a beautiful colour, and I wish I had got it in that colour for myself instead of the pastel cream one!

I also ordered a gothic lace barrel bag which was lovely but far too small so I sold it on rather than return it.

Overall, the quality is lovely, the colours are lovely but it would be great if they were just a bit wider to hold a bit more stuff!

MrsRogerSterling · 25/05/2013 22:06

Gosh, I was obviously one of the lucky ones in that my saddle bag came the Thursday after the sale weekend. I think I got swept up in the frenzy of ordering as deep down I knew it wasn't the bag for me and sold it onto a friend for what I had paid for it.

Selks · 26/05/2013 01:57

The one I'm waiting for is a brown saddle bag too.

The annoying thing is I ordered it with my holiday in mind....I go next saturday and it doesn't look like I'll have it by then.

to the person who said can we cut them some slack...well, I think I have done but it's been weeks now and I have not even had a reply to any of my emails.

SolomanDaisy · 26/05/2013 09:30

I ordered three things and haven't received any of them. I've had mixed experiences with their responses to emails - early on they were great, when I made a change to the order, but I haven't had a response to one I sent a week ago.

I don't mind waiting, but their management of the whole thing has been bad. The point about UK businesses is very valid, but if you look at their FB page many irritated customers are from all around the world. We might be saying, 'I'll never shop at Zatchels again' they might well be saying 'I'm never buying from a British company again. Their customer service is terrible.' They could well be having a negative impact on other small British companies.

I probably would still shop at Zatchels at half-price, it's a bargain and I'd know what to expect in terms of time scales and customer service. For full-price stuff I'll probably go with Cambridge Satchel Company from now on.

squalorvictoria · 26/05/2013 13:57

My Brandalley satchel arrived yesterday (purple metallic - fab).

It was manufactured on April 24th.

In other words, they were busy making bags to sell via Brandalley when they could/should have been fulfilling sale orders. Hmm...

SolomanDaisy · 26/05/2013 14:16

Ha, that's not what they claimed on Facebook! That is seriously bad planning.

Selks · 26/05/2013 14:20

I've emailed them again. I'm not expecting a reply this weekend of course, but I hope they get back to me next week with some info.

greyvix · 28/05/2013 15:37

My satchel- brown executive- arrived today. It is very good quality, but is covered in tiny white dots, where it looks like the varnish was put on top of the dots- whatever they are- so they won't come off. Does anyone else have this? I don't know whether to keep or ask for a replacement. Also, it's a work bag, and I don't think it will fit much in it...

SundaySimmons · 28/05/2013 18:09

Greyvix, I think there must be something wrong with your one.

www.google.co.uk/search?q=zatchels+brown+executive&client=safari&hl=en&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=TeSkUc_tKMOl0QWd-YDwDQ&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1024&bih=672

I can't see any dots on any of those, so I would take a photo and send it to their customer services.

whats4teamum · 29/05/2013 09:37

My bag has been "printed" for a fortnight now.

No reply to emails. Really appalling customer service. I am trying to cancel but can't get through.

Disgusting they have had my money for nearly 7 weeks now and they can't be bothered to communicate. Their Facebook page is a list of complaints about non communication. The instant availability on brandalley just adds to the irritation.

Rant over.

greyvix · 29/05/2013 10:03

Thanks, SundaySimmons. They have agreed to exchange. I am trying to decide whether to upsize to 17.5", but DD1 thinks I will look like a packhorse! Does anyone have one this size? Is it excessive?

dexter73 · 29/05/2013 10:25

I just rang and got straight through to cancel my order. Hopefully the refund won't take too long!

dexter73 · 29/05/2013 10:57

The refund email came through 2 minutes later!

SundaySimmons · 29/05/2013 11:07

Greyvix, this is a guy carrying one and it does look rather spacious!

m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=vAUqPkxNIvw&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DvAUqPkxNIvw

It depends on your size, if you are not very tall it could swamp you but it does look lovely!

I wish I'd gone for larger sizes on my ones.

greyvix · 29/05/2013 11:14

Thank you. Decisions, decisions. I need to clear out my current bag, and work out exactly what I need. I'm a teacher, so always carry too much stuff around- usually marking!

anchovies · 29/05/2013 11:49

Greyvix do you currently have the 16"? I got a 16" and don't think I could carry much bigger, it holds my laptop perfectly but then can't fit much else in. I would need it to be deeper if anything. I absolutely love it though!
