Please help me... I'm getting married in a months time and I don't like my dress

Kind of nice - well, I thought so at the time - but I put it on yesterday and just felt deflated and dowdy. I look like someone's mum (well, I am someone's mum, but you know what I mean).

I also have this jacket and these shoes, both of which I love and definitely want to wear.

I'm thinking sell the dress on Ebay, and find something else? Or am I being a bit daft? DP thinks I look lovely in it, so maybe I should just go with the flow...?

I look good in green, generally I think. Can I get married in green?

I think your dress is lovely. It won't really date I don't think and would look good on anyone.
I do think the jacket might look a bit mumsy though so could you bear to be cold (I don't live in the UK so not sure about the weather at mo)
Shoes look Ok or get something a bit higher??
If you really don't like it though I would get something else as you want to feel good on your wedding day.

The dress is beautiful! I know it doesn't help, us saying it looks lovely when you don't feel lovely in it, but it is a really lovely dress! The jacket and shoes are gorgeous too. i love that dress, like the dress more than the jacket tbh. if it were me, i'd keep the dress and shoes, but ditch the jacket and go for a shawl type thing to dress the dress up. jacket looks a bit 'day in the office' to me.

The jacket is the best bit actually - looks great with jeans and heels too. The shoes are on the low side, but my God are they comfortable

First, I agree with hellocatty about the dress and jacket. It's a lovely dress but the jacket is a bit too plain for it. Could you find a pretty shawl, perhaps a vintage one in a pale gold, to cover your shoulders?

I wore one that is pale gold with a dark red/ cerise rose pattern on it to match my wedding dress (which was a dark red).

You can and should wear whatever you want, in whatever colour for your wedding as long as you feel fabulous.

It's a very small registry office do, by the way, followed by afternoon tea and a quick getaway to Paris for the weekend. Not sure if that makes any difference, sartorially - other than I will probably feel even more shit when I arrive in Paris and am surrounded by beautiful, slim, effortlessly chic bitches parisiennes

The green dress is pretty but, dare I say, much more mumsy than your original dress. Sorry! I lvoe your first dress, it's really pretty.

I would be very happy to lend you my shawl or at least take a picture of it so you can see what I mean. Can't do that until tonight, unfortunately.

I'm thinking of getting married in green! I've bought an Amanda Wakeley dress that is a sort of full length flapper style. I may get a wedding dress as well though and have the green one as a 'reception dress'

I think both are lovely but it depends how you actually look and feel in them. If you don't feel a million dollars in the one you've got then if it were me I would be looking for a different one.

I think the first dress is very nice but... I know from my own fairly recent wedding experience, once the doubts set in, it can be hard to feel really good in that outfit.

The first dress is lovely, the second one is really not as nice. I have to say that I'm not keen on the jacket with the dress, I'd go for a shawl of some sort if its a cold day.

the first dress can really be styled up into something glamorous, I don't think you can do that with the empire line one. Also think that the first one is more classic and you'll look at your pix in 20 years' time and still think it looks great! (I say this assuming it FITS properly - have you taken it to get it altered to fit you? a little nip and tuck from someone good can work wonders and give you the lift you're after. NB i mean nip n' tuck the dress, not you.)

I love the dress, it's gorgeous. Also not loving the jacket but if you do, that's what matters. I think a wrap would look much more appropriate, jacket a bit work/casual evening IMO.

Jacket is fine. I love the shoes. Pearls and beaded clutch bag sound fine too, but these are my type of things. For the wedding you describe these seem OK. I like the first dress better, especially if you're wearing the jacket but the second one would work. If you aren't naturally a shawl person no point in wearing one in my opinion, if jackets are more "you" go for it.

Have a think about the styling details (hair, jewellery) - maybe look at Pinterest? The right styling makes all the difference.

Think the first dress is nicer than the second. Second one more mumsy imho. But go with what makes YOU feel good!

I like both but ever so slightly prefer the green. If you don't feel confident though, I would think about changing the dress.

My wedding dress came from Monsoon. I loved the shape, colour and style but didn't like some of the detail such as crystal-effect beading. Thought I could live with it but changed my mind so ended up taking the dress to a local dressmaker who talked through changes that could be made in order to customise the dress - the shiny crystals were replaced with some (subtle) lace and pearl detail and I adored the finished result which was very professional looking. I wonder if it would be worth seeking out a similar service to see if they have any ideas that might be a workable solution to add something to the original dress?

Interesting that almost everyone likes the first dress and doesn't like the jacket.

I'm starting to wonder whether it's ME that I'm dissatisfied with. I'm a size 10 - 12, but have enormous boobs that just dominate everything and make me look big. Clothes generally just don't sit right on me.
