Please help me... I'm getting married in a months time and I don't like my dress

It's this one

Kind of nice - well, I thought so at the time - but I put it on yesterday and just felt deflated and dowdy. I look like someone's mum (well, I am someone's mum, but you know what I mean).

I also have this jacket and these shoes, both of which I love and definitely want to wear.

I'm thinking sell the dress on Ebay, and find something else? Or am I being a bit daft? DP thinks I look lovely in it, so maybe I should just go with the flow...?

I look good in green, generally I think. Can I get married in green?

Help!

if you are top heavy a waist length jacket can make it look worse as it will hang off your bosom making you look like a square. A shorter jacket is more flattering and will show off your waist.

EuroShaggleton · 08/04/2013 15:10

I'll join the chorus of "keep the dress, change the jacket". I think a wrap or shrug would look much better with it.

I liked the colour of the green dress but thought the style was a bit twee, but you have to go with what you like!

MadAboutHotChoc · 08/04/2013 15:11

Love the bolero jacket Horrace has linked - looks like its meant to go with the dress.

MrsLettuce · 08/04/2013 15:16

I also like the original dress and am dubious about the jacket. Consensus is a rare thing here as I'm sure you know!

this and possibly this?

this in the sea green or pink?

lotsofboats · 08/04/2013 15:25

The original dress is lovely, I could imagine it being really easy to accessorise with stunning jewellery etc, as it is so simple and stylish.
Statement green glass necklace? Stunning Green shoes? Just suggestions..
I have just ordered duck egg green heels to wear with my knee length white wedding dress. They may work, they may look awful but I am having so much fun experimenting [Smiles]
Next on my to get list is a little cashmere cardigan for the evening in a complimentary colour that I haven't decided on yet!
Try not to worry, if your dress really isn't right you still have time to find one you love!

JambalayaCodfishPie · 08/04/2013 15:46

Your original dress is beautiful. I imagine with a huge headpiece and mini veil, skyscraper heels and a vintage clutch. It's exactly the sort of thing I'd go for.

The jacket takes that glamorous image away. Grin

tethersend · 08/04/2013 15:57

Yy, jacket is nice but covers too much of th dress.

Original dress is ok, but I'd go for

This dress with this bolero

tethersend · 08/04/2013 15:58

Sorry, this bolero

TheRealFellatio · 08/04/2013 16:04

That's a nice dress Teths. Can't open the link for the bolero though.

tethersend · 08/04/2013 16:09

Really? Ah, ok... Try CnPing it:

How are you BTW? Haven't seen you in aaaages...

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 08/04/2013 16:20

Wow, thanks for all the advice and links everyone.

I've tried that jacket on, pootles and the Damsel in the Dress one that MrsLettuce linked, but preferred the Cream Jacket of Doom that everyone hates Grin
There's no hope for me is there?

Am definitely considering going down the bolero route now, so thanks for all the links

I like the Aria dress, but not sure about either colour. Love Tethers green one too, but it's a bit long for me (I may be down on my boobs but I've got a cracking pair of pins, if I say so myself Grin )

I can't see your bolero either, I'm afraid. Was the 'how are you' to me or fellatio? Smile

Now, can I be cheeky and ask for a bit of hair help too? I can't face a hat or veil type thing, but maybe an updo with a big flower? Would that be OK?

Am blonde and blue eyed by the way (someone asked about colouring earlier on)

An elegant chignon?

Could you book a personal shopper in John Lewis, maybe also House of Fraser. They might suggest stuff you wouldn't look at yourself.

AgathaF · 08/04/2013 18:00

Any of these appeal?

This one
Similar to your first one
Show off your boobs and nipped in underneath

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 08/04/2013 18:15

Ooh, I like the first one Agatha, and the first one waswondering linked to. Thank you Flowers

But tethers that shrug is beautiful. And cheap! This could be the answer!

Not sure I can do elegant chignon, much as I'd love to. My hair is a frizzy unruly mess.

If there are two things I don't regret paying for at my wedding, it's the photographer and the hair (I also had a very small wedding so didn't pay much for the dress and did my own make up). I think any dress you wear will look a lot nicer and you'll feel much more confident if you have your hair professionally done. Since your wedding is quite close, maybe you'll be able to cut a last minute deal with a stylist?

Lulabellarama · 08/04/2013 18:41

Love that pied a terre dress AgathaF linked to. You must at least go and try it on!
You should book a hair appointment for the morning, but don't tell them it's for wedding hair, just say you want an updo and take along any accessories you fancy.

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 08/04/2013 18:42

Yes, good thinking. I have just had a look at the prices of local salons, and it's about £100 for "wedding hair" and £25 - £35 to just go in and have your hair put up Shock

The latter for me then!

AgathaF · 08/04/2013 18:58

Ooh yes, have someone do your hair. It'll make you feel so special.

AgathaF · 08/04/2013 19:00

I love the little fluffy Madeline shrug that Horace linked to. It looks so feminine.

lightrain · 08/04/2013 19:10

What about this shrug/ cardi? I wore it for my wedding with a 50's style dress. Think it would be lovely with your dress (which is beautiful - agree with everyone, jacket not great, sorry).

bit Kate Middleton
