MI FB messengerWink

We must have camped in Brittany about 7 or 8 times and only had the odd bit of bad weatherSmile Southern at the end of July.

Yes Cremo, what does your DD want to do?

Now in Koh Lanta - bungalows on the beach! 2km of flat white sand and not too many people!

motherinferior · 05/04/2013 10:38

BTM, I may need to kill you, you know Grin

Cremolafoam · 05/04/2013 10:43

MI I think Normandy might win in that debateSmile its all about the house really. Who knows about the weather? It could end up being like 2004 and be 38 degrees or it could be like a wet weekend in the UK .
But if the house is divine it won't matter.

Well dd is thinking of Politics and International Relations possibly with a language.
We always thought it would be English, but she took up politics as an As level subject and is living it. Devouring books at an alarming rate and developing opinions on everything. Grin
But she has yearnings for St Andrews and its smallness and reputation.
Her ambition is to be prime minister journalism/ research/ be Kate AdieGrin

Someone bloody pm me and I will send you the links....

Oh and Vendee has pool, albeit one that reminds me irresistibly of the one in which I gave birth to DD2.

Do not do journalism, tell her!

Cremolafoam · 05/04/2013 11:16

Mi I keep telling her, but her late dad was one and if its not in the blood then I'm a banana. I see her ( personality wise anyway) as an academic. [ She doesnt see this tbh]
You are not the first writer / journo to tell me that ITS a BAD idea. What can I tell you?ShockGrin
The more I say it, the more she digs her heels in and writes some more.

If we're going to spend 60 grand on an Oxbridge education I have told her that I don't want her writing the obituary column in The Belfast Telegraph. But I may as well have said : pitccsyhhrgnn tfddhnbxho hdtyegjjhyunbioyffcbkoo.GrinGrin

I went to Oxford. I am a journalist. I rest my case Grin

Cremolafoam · 05/04/2013 11:27

Grin I know but you are secretly fabulous MI.

OP posts:
Blackduck · 05/04/2013 11:49

Don't be an academic either - it's a thankless task - stupid hours and rubbish pay!

Cremolafoam · 05/04/2013 11:49

MI that's one spectacular house.
For the size it's not too bad cost wise either .lots of space and prettiness.
Is Av. an attractive place? I've only ever skirted round it on the way sarf from Cherbourg

OP posts:
motherinferior · 05/04/2013 11:53

Is that the Normandy one you like? Yes, it's lovely...

Cremolafoam · 05/04/2013 11:55

Bd as long as she is useful and engaged in some way and doesn't end up living with me and dh until she is 38 ill be happy.
I'm not ready to scotch her dreams at this point. Shed load of exams to go yet as it is.
< looks longingly at French giites>

OP posts:
Cremolafoam · 05/04/2013 11:59

Yes Normandy one far superior to Vendee one IMHO

motherinferior · 05/04/2013 12:30

I dare not add to our wibbling! Opinions now firmly divided Grin

bigTillyMint · 05/04/2013 12:34

Have PMd you MI - the internet is truly crap here!

Stropperella · 05/04/2013 13:13

and er, definitely don't be a translator. I can arrange a few week's virtual interning doing commercial GIGO for peanuts per line. Or a spot of literary for some crumbs and a bowl of dust.

Stropperella · 05/04/2013 13:14

Crap, how did that apostrophe get there? Eee wants moving, ee do...

Stropperella · 05/04/2013 13:19

Re holiday houses - second whoever said the house is all. Even if weather is crap, sumptuous house will (almost) totally make up for it, as long as there is plenty of interest in the local area. We had a v. nice gite holiday in Normandy ages ago when ds was a bump. Weather was intermittently fine, but not that different from where we live (which makes sense as it is not actually that far away Grin).

Oh Ruby much sympathy....

I had massive meltdown at dp yesterday... he might be going on holiday on his own at this rate......

So having ruled out journalism, academia and translating, what's left ;)

Of Cremo - forgot to say caught up with your dd on woman's hour today (yes, I know it was months ago...) - what an amazing articulate young woman!

hattymattie · 05/04/2013 13:41

Wow Crem - I hope she succeeds that would be fantastic. We're coming up to uni applications in September so I'm watching everybody with interest. DD1 is mega brilliant at English and her teacher said she should try Oxbridge but she thinks this may mean she'd end up as a teacher (like him). She's now looking at English/French Law. I think I said up-thread that if she gets in on the French side it'll be much cheaper for us.

I am very jealous of BTM's sandy white beaches.

Sorry about your house Ruby - maybe you wouldn't have liked it. I know the fact that you didn't get to see it means it must have been the one. I just want a modern house at the moment - with good plumbing.

bigTillyMint · 05/04/2013 14:40

The beach may be beautiful, and the food delish-ius, but the DC have been an effing pain this afternoon/evening, culminating in a rant from me and threats/warnings from DH. O happy hols!

At least Tesco bank finally rang me back and de-blocked the cards. But I will have to claim the 30mins on hold when I get my statement through Angry

bigTillyMint · 05/04/2013 14:41

Ruby, whatever will be will beSmile
