Commiserations, Ruby.

Cremolafoam · 05/04/2013 15:51

Thanks bd Smile there's always prime minister but she'll have to elbow Boris out if the way I thinkGrin
Ruby - crap luck. House buying is so stressful. I hate that in your head you're mentally painting walls and wondering where the furniture might go and then its all over in a flash.
There will be a better one come along -ThanksI'm sure of it

Dp was nearly going away on his own... Panicky OMG moment as suddenly realised ds's passport must be close to renewal Shock good thing we hadn't booked somewhere like India!! I wasn't relishing that convo - daddy and I are going away, you are staying at nana's Shock

QueenQueenie · 05/04/2013 18:09

OK BTM, is this op a friend of yours?

here

QueenQueenie · 05/04/2013 18:14

Oh god, I was aiming at faintly amusing but have now read more of that thread and realised how very unpleasant it is.... sorry. As you were BTM.

CointreauVersial · 05/04/2013 18:36

Ooh, that thread got a bit snarky, didn't it? BTM, don't stop updating - it's nice to hear how you are getting on.

I worked my first proper Friday today (eek). Not too bad, actually, quite a relaxed atmosphere in the office (casual day etc). I spent a happy half hour organising the office Grand National Sweepstake, but I failed to select a decent horse for myself so won't be winning the jackpot. No idea what my next paycheck will be either (I was already struggling to work out if I am better or worse off post-budget), as they haven't given me my new terms of employment yet. I not expecting millions, but every little helps, as they say. We also have a fair number of leaking/malfunctioning items about the place - top of the list being guttering, radiators, DS's bedroom window and microwave.

Anyway, I have a houseful of grunting teenage boys and a sick DD1 at the moment (she cried off a sleepover at her best mate's house and gave the rest of her Easter Egg to her sister - that's how ill she is Grin). DS is already asking what's for tea, so I had best get into the kitchen and brew up a vat of bolognaise to feed the masses.

wilbur · 05/04/2013 19:20

Phew, have just caught up on all your chat, mes amis! Had to put head between knees at one point - not sure which was worse, Ruby's tooth nightmare, Crem's boil or CV's hot salad Shock. Although am still rofling about hot salad which reminded me of some dire meals made by my Canadian mother which were basically an assemblage of things that remained edible during a prairie winter. Still, am glad tooth and boil are better.

So, one week of school hols down and still standing here, just about, mainly by using chocolate as a bargaining and bribery tool. Dcs being quite nice, but that may be because I have just finally learned to tune them out. Grin Dd has a viking ship to make for school, sigh, and ds1 is supposed to do a bit of revision for summer exams but has conveniently left all his books at school, double sigh. No surprise that his recent parents evening involved nice words being said about his classwork and less nice words being said about his homework.

Am going to brave Hampton Court Palace on Thurs, I think, as even when it's rammed, it's lovely, and we have tickets to Pompeii at Brit Museum too, so that's my culture for the hols. I do want to go to MoL soon though, to see the new stuff.

MI - we stayed at this nice place in the Ardeche a couple of years back. A bit off the beaten track but amazing views, gorgeous countryside and the nearby biggish town, Aubenas, was very lovely. We are not planning a summer hol so I am Envy at any sunshine chat, but excitingly we did get our planning permission through this week. Eek. We are miles away from being able to start work, but at least we know now what we can do when we scrape together the cash.

Cremolafoam · 05/04/2013 22:16

Hi Wilbur
The Pompeii thing looks interesting

MI have you made a decision about hols???

yes please keep posting BTM. Am enjoying my vicarious Thai holiday!

In Suffolk it's freeeeezing cold with a biting Siberian wind. All we can do to keep our spirits up is eat lots, play boardgames and drink cider.... which is actually rather enjoyable.

CointreauVersial · 05/04/2013 23:47

DH and I have retreated to our bedroom and left the enormous teens lounging on the living room floor watching Borat and scoffing popcorn. DD1 went to bed at 7pm with a temperature and hasn't eaten all day but hopefully she will sleep off whatever bug she has picked up.

Wilbur - Hampton Court should be a fun trip. DD2 has just visited with her school; we also went at Christmas a couple of years back, when they put on a very atmospheric re-enactment of the Court of Catherine Howard, complete with actors wandering about so completely in character you really started to feel you were part of the action. The DDs took part in a dance for the queen, DH had to get down on one knee and petition the king, and there were servants whispering intrigue in the corridors. It was all very entertaining.

bigTillyMint · 06/04/2013 02:00

Time diff/crappy internet connection... Have flicked through that thread and don't think it's about me. Sod 'em anywayGrin

Wilbur, nice to see you again! Think DS is going to Hampton Court soon with school (went in Y5? too) - it is a good place to visitSmile

ruby, threading is far more painful than waxing IMHO, but the worst has to be the plucking I endured in Tunisia one year - owwwww!!!

CV commiserations on the sick DD and hulking teens. My hulking pre-teen is sharing a bungalow with his stroppy sister and being VERY annoyingAngry

bigTillyMint · 06/04/2013 02:24

MI, first cottage is lush! Second one is well located though. Have you been to Puy du Fou? We loved it (about 8yrs ago!)
And if you want cheapness I think the Gites de France website may be your friend, though I doubt you'd find anything as lush as no.1 (French interiors not quite the nouvelle Anglais!)

hattymattie · 06/04/2013 06:50

BTM - I'm enjoying your reflected sunshine - god knows we need it! Keep posting.

We're all up really early as expecting visitors for breakfast - old friends swinging by on a rugby tour with a packed schedule so we can only do coffee and croissants.

hattymattie · 06/04/2013 06:52

Ruby - I have never had my eyebrows threaded - I don't even know if that exists in France. I just do the bushy eyebrow look (apparently it's fashionable at the moment) Grin

Oh that FB thread was a tad judgy wasn't it!

Passport is fine (phew) but will need renewing on return - wouldn't have even given it a thought if a colleague hadn't mentioned renewing her sons.
House is very quiet without ds - a weekend of peace (and tidying). It is quite nice reading about all these dodgy loos and guttering - I always think everyone else has a perfectly working paradise!!
:)

hattymattie · 06/04/2013 08:39

Grin at love bite - high neck jumpers and scarves Ruby. I once scraped my neck with my swimming goggles and was relentlessly teased in the office.

Guests been and gone - it's so difficult when you get really good friends with people and then they go off again the UK or elsewhere. I'm very wistful about this as some of our really good friends here are getting divorced - DH is good friends with my DH, DS's are really good friends and the wife is my friend. Very complicated delicate situation. I just want everything as it was ten years ago.

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/04/2013 09:39

Hatty - you can get your beard and moustache eyebrows threaded in lots of little places around the Gare du Nord in Paris. Apparently. Grin

I am still lying wanly in bed with a temperature.

bigTillyMint · 06/04/2013 10:17

Love bite??? What have I missed? Is it you or your DC?!!!

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/04/2013 10:34

Hatty - know exactly what you mean, and one of the drawbacks of being an expat. I would really like to go back to the village we lived in before we came to Paris as we had a good circle of friends there, and the girls had a good social life. Paris has been the most difficult place I've ever lived for getting to know people (the only friends I've made here are through Mumsnet, and one through work). London will be better, I think, although I do worry about what the DDs will do for a social life, if they are going to be weekly boarders at school. I guess they can bring friends home with them and go out in London?

bigTillyMint · 06/04/2013 10:35

Aaaaahhhh! See it's your DS ruby - was beginning to feel even crepier thinking it might be youGrin And Wink at hatty and her swimming goggles!

Sorry you're suffering MrsS. And that your friends are divorcing, hatty.

Had a very relaxing and peaceful day at the pool/on the beach. Apart from the DC who apparently didn't go to sleep till 2am and are extremely grumpyAngry

Blackduck · 06/04/2013 10:43

Have cleaned and tidied ds's room, and about about to recycle half his clothes to a friend so next problem is lack of shorts.
ds likes colour, Boden have just the right kind of thing bu I object o paying £18 a pair when I can by a double pack in M&S for £12 (but they are boring!)
Any ideas crepeys?
MrsS hope you get better soon (and don't have it for 3 weeks like I have...)

Stropperella · 06/04/2013 11:32

BD, have you looked at MandCo for boys' clothes? They at least have shorts in red and light blue apart from standard dingey sludge. £12, I think. Also dare I mention Peacocks? They have boys' denim shorts for under a tenner. Ds v. pleased with his latest Angry Birds Stars Wars t-shirt from there.
