Grin Over here!

OP posts:
hattymattie · 28/03/2013 13:18

Ahh - think we need to get a dog, that would be the solution.

Happy to report - nothing too serious at dentist's, have got off likely with minor filling.

Have got in a multi-packet of Twix plus three of those chocolate Lindt bunnies which should keep us going over Easter.

hattymattie · 28/03/2013 13:21

Just to add - BTM - I am sooo jealous and soo cold. Envy Have a great time.

herbaceous · 28/03/2013 13:43

I also am well jel of BTM. And of anyone at liberty to eat chocolate - it's a fast day today, as things have slipped in the past week. I should have fasted on Monday, but had to take DS to hospital, so it didn't seem appropriate. After all, I had to throw myself into his 'treat' lunch at Byron. Mmmmmm. Chilli burger.

motherinferior · 28/03/2013 13:45

Have a lovely time, BTM!

I have not got much done today (too tired and stressed-out - concert was bloody knackering!) but I have drafted the copy (mostly taken from my CV) for my website about Wonderful Me. I am quite amazingly fabulous, apparently. I'm terribly impressed.

herbaceous · 28/03/2013 13:47

Can you lot give me a kick up the arse? I have decided what I want to do next, career-wise, but have to send an exploratory email to find out how to get into it. But as the job is language-related, the wording of the email seems so utterly vital that I find myself incapable of sending the buggering thing, for feare of them telling me to sod off. It's been hanging over me for months.

Should I feel the fear and do it anyway?

Oh link MI!
Herbs was going to ask how the fasting was/is going. I have def lost weight but wonder if I need to push up to three days to shift a bit more.

motherinferior · 28/03/2013 13:50

YAY Ruby!

Herbs, DO IT. I have commandeered my Most Bossy Friend to boss me into doing things like this - hence writing my website copy this morning when all I wanted to do was futz about pointlessly - and it was a Very Good Idea.

Go back, give the email a final edit and send off.

Blackduck · 28/03/2013 13:50

Hi Ruby - waves - can you eat chocolate at the moment? And does it all feel, well, better?

Herbs send

It's not up yet, BD. A friend who is a website person offered to do me one ages ago - it was a 40th birthday present IIRC - but frankly I've always felt that self-promo time was better spent whizzing off pitches. Now, though, we've reached the tipping point where really any freelancer has to have one - and someone I know pointed out the other day it's more important to have a website than a CV.

Mind you website-wallah mate feels v strongly that these things are NOT for self-promotion so I have an argument on my hands Grin

Stropperella · 28/03/2013 13:58

Hope you feel better soon Ruby.

BD - three days a week of starving sounds like torture to me. Are you sure it's good for you? Grin

Herbs - just do it. Today. Now.

Well done MI.

Gawd, I wish I could amazingly fabulous myself. Envy

Blackduck · 28/03/2013 14:02

Well I think we are all amazingly fabulous Grin

Ruby - liquid chocolate?

Stropperella · 28/03/2013 14:07

I just read this , which talks about something that I have been twitchy about for some time. It made me Sad

herbaceous · 28/03/2013 14:24

I've done it!

And yes, Strops, so depressing. The comments below the feature are very interesting.

Blackduck · 28/03/2013 14:34

Stropps - thats depressing....I feel like a failure as a mother as it is without adding my failure to send ds to a private school...

herbaceous · 28/03/2013 14:52

I had convinced myself that not sending DS private was doing him a favour, as he'd only be learning how to mix with a narrow band of rich, entitled arses. But maybe if that's the route to success (for example, the Tory Cabinet) I should start saving.

Stropperella · 28/03/2013 15:22

It's a recurrent theme in my life as I am the only one in my wider family who was mainly state-educated (just a horrid 2 years in a private school 6th form). My db was privately educated from age 7 to 18 and all the cousins in our generation are the product of an expensive private education and all of their children are the same.
There is a widespread feeling amongst these cousins that you fail your children if you do not send them to a big name public school. Obviously, I am working at being happy about being an impoverished, mad halfwit who unwisely bred. But I am still not looking forward to a big family party that is happening in April, where the vast numbers of cousinly offspring who have made it to Oxbridge will be mightily trumpeted. And people will be watching my dcs for signs of oafish state school behaviour. Ds will probably oblige by putting on a good show. Grin

Stropperella · 28/03/2013 15:26

Oh god, I am whinging AGAIN. Somebody come and remove my brain and give it a good shaking. I should be happy for every day no one is poorly and I can pay the gas bill, fgs. Tell me these idiot people in my family do not matter and merit and innate talent will eventually count for something anyway. Or alternatively, just send me a big, hard, virtual SMACK.

Stropperella · 28/03/2013 15:39

Herbs - well done for jolly well doing it Grin

Strops. Have a read of the 'school cake sale' thread on AIBU. I actually cried laughing.

beachyhead · 28/03/2013 16:38

I'm back, from a Failed Root Canal Confused

He got to two roots but can't get to the third, so I'm being referred to a specialist, who apparently might be able to get there... Or I can just have the tooth removed and an implant put in. How am I supposed to decide? I'm not a dentist!

Well done with kicks up the bottom and removal of brains.

A word of warning, Sainsbury's had almost run out of Easter eggs this morning. All the basics were gone and only the monty £20 Thorntons ones were there in abundance...we have none yet!

motherinferior · 28/03/2013 16:53

Is there no end to this dental horror???
