Oh MI :(
Was this the job hare one?

motherinferior · 27/03/2013 15:27

Yep.

Feel gloomy and selfpitying.

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/03/2013 17:39

The bastards, MI.

hattymattie · 27/03/2013 18:43

MI Sad and another Wine.

bigTillyMint · 27/03/2013 19:02

MI Wine and Flowers

Stropperella · 27/03/2013 19:38

MI - bummer. Sorry to hear that. More Wine?

Excerpt from ds's (very enthusiastically tackled) homework on the Trojan Horse: "There was dead bodies all over the place". Ah. The Classics. Nothing like 'em, eh?

hattymattie · 27/03/2013 19:58

I reckon MI's nearly had a bottle by now.

Stropps - you've reminded me that my DD wrote this weekend that "Mr Rochester was wrong from a feminist perspective because he locked his wife up in the attic. Nowdays she would just be locked up in a mental institution" Hmm .

My favourite of the year so far though was when DS asked if the Pope was speaking elvish Grin. I don't think he's heard Latin before.

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/03/2013 20:14

I did a very odd training course today. It was all about discovering your strengths and playing to them. One of the "strengths" on the list was "woo." Hmm

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/03/2013 20:18

I was telling my mother about a friend of mine who has terminal cancer. She lives in the middle of nowhere, is wheelchair bound and can't get out, except at weekends with her DH, who has a long commute and doesn't get home till late during the week. The only person she sees during the day is an 80 year old neighbour. I think this is pretty hideous by anyone's standards, especially if you're only 49. My mother's response? "I haven't seen anyone since the weekend, either."

Cremolafoam · 27/03/2013 20:26

Evening hags. Mrs S I think one of my strengths is definitely woo.Grin
Or should I say 'great toleration of woo'
Re the plain speaking and get letting less tolerant as you get older. I think it's true , but I am nowhere near my mothers league just yet. My job is about being tolerant helpful giving and accommodating all day . I used to go home full of brimstone after 8 hours under attack. Now dh gives me 10-20 minutes to rant about my lovely customers and their unreasonable levels of expectation and then I have to shut up about it.
Works for meGrin well that and very fast lengths of the pool after which I am a hollow husk.

Very sorry to hear about the job MI.

Hope ds recovers well Stropps. He sounds like he was very brave. I had my septum realigned at 16 and it was deeply unpleasant .

Re holidaying with IL I would rather have root canal frankly.

I think I am due on. I need chocolate and am shouty. Someone (I think one of the houseguests) bought Matzos, and I roared "Is this a fucking joke? They're not even kosher for passover." (Why they would need to be in this house, I had no idea, but they had the blue label and not the red and my mother always bought the red label for Passover Easter, even though we're not Jewish...)

Cremolafoam · 27/03/2013 21:03

Rofl mrs s . Always with the red matzos . Sheesh

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 27/03/2013 21:17

Am loving the homeworksGrin

And having just watched a programme about Jewish weddings, I can feel your pain, MrsS!

Am feeling pretty pleased with myself at work as 2 mums were singing my team's praises yesterday (to the managementWink) and 2 more lovelies are successfully re-integratingSmile
However, I also had the misfortune to meet one of the least accommodating teachers that I have ever laid eyes on, who couldn't find a good thing to say about one of my lovelies (who is actually exceptionally talented)Angry

Stropperella · 27/03/2013 21:57

Woo? WOO?? This is an official term now?

Ds recently had a Judaism Week at school and now considers himself the house expert on such matters. He is v. pleased that I have purchased matzos, though pointed out this morning that they are "not suitable for pesach, which is now" (smartarse - and like it matters in our house anyway). I am not sure how much of his newly acquired knowledge on all things Jewish is sound because he keeps insisting that much of it was taught to him by Professor Umbridge (see Harry Potter). Hmm

Grin at the Pope talking Elvish..

Stropperella · 27/03/2013 22:00

MrsS, your ma truly is a stranger to empathy.

CointreauVersial · 27/03/2013 22:41

Funny that, DD1 is knee deep in Judaism at school as well. She expected me to know the difference between Orthodox, Reform and Liberal Jews. Ha ha, what do I know?

Sorry to hear about the job, MI, but don't be disheartened, there's something better around the corner......

CointreauVersial · 27/03/2013 22:42

And three cheers for appreciative comments at work, BTM! Makes it all worth while.

Cremolafoam · 27/03/2013 22:51

Stropps:
woo-woo
"
Woo-woo (or just plain woo) refers to ideas considered irrational or based on extremely flimsy evidence or that appeal to mysterious occult forces or powers."

allegedlyGrin

OP posts:
Blackduck · 28/03/2013 05:38

Stropps - your ds' homework made me :) - just the sort of thing my ds would write.
'Woo' is an official strength, really - wtaf is woo?
Jewish - hmm, why did children get so fascinated with this? Recall nephew aged about 8 announcing' I'm a Christian, mummy is a Hindu (true) and daddy is a Jew' Hmm could not dissuade him no matter what we said...

So very sorry about job MI.

MrsS your mother never ceases to amaze me.

My mum is being sent for an ECG - sincerely hope thesis just precautionary...

Cremolafoam · 28/03/2013 07:15

Btm Bon voyage!Grin

OP posts:
hattymattie · 28/03/2013 09:04

Thank's for the definition of 'woo' before I had to ask.

My friend is a reformed Jew - she reckons this allows her to eat pork sausages. Who am I to argue.

Stropp's I think our children are way to much into their fantasy books. Grin. Although who's to say there aren't Jewish wizards.

Major row last night as DD1's secret chocolate supply was raided either by DD2 and/or DS. She says she has no privacy and will now faint at school due to lack of chocolate! DD2 accused DS of stealing chocolate and planting wrapper in her bin. At this point I retired to watch Masterchef.

Off to dentist now...

QueenQueenie · 28/03/2013 11:15

On things Jewish ... dh's (Jewish) grandma used to give him "pink meat" for lunch sometimes when looking after him. This was in fact bacon.
On things DVD say... Ds2 aged 8ish reluctant audience member at the opera, after first few mins in v loud whisper, "is it all in foreign?". (It was).

bigTillyMint · 28/03/2013 11:16

Hatty - love the chocolate mysteryGrin

Cab's coming in 6 hours.... But I'm at work for the next 4!

Blackduck · 28/03/2013 11:29

QQ - love it!
BTM - enjoy (I hate you :) )

Still blinking freezing here, and I have had enough.

Blackduck · 28/03/2013 11:31

In our house any chocolate mystery would firmly be laid at the dog's door ;) (and not without good reason...)

Why can't people just be nice to each other
