Ha! That sounds like a great read Frugal
My grandmother would have loved that quote. She always believed that anything could be overcome with the right lipstick! She was in her hospital bed sporting a beautiful green cashmere wrap and red lipstick aged 99!

shopafrolic · 07/03/2013 08:36

I might have to read this too!

Morning everyone, that sounds like a great read frugal, lots of sound advice I bet. Re boot cuts, of course they are flattering - but I no longer have any that would fit, I need new blue denim so now I have to decide...buy bootcuts or skinnies?! Decisions decisions...btw your grandmother sounds cool Shop!

Like the sound of your work outfit Liberty, that Gerard Darel dress is very chic.

I am looking forward to a nice day today, mani booked at Groom in Selfridges then a quick lunch with a friend. Dash back to collect DD from school and go for hot chocolate (our special weekly girls' date for just us two, someone else picks her up the rest of the week while I get DS who is a drive away). Then MIL is arriving this evening for a few days visit. DH and I were going out for dinner tonight so now will take her as well, great, I love my MIL! Just bought her this cardigan for Mothers Day. DH is off skiing with his mates this weekend, he'd better have a good gift for me!

So today's outift was going to be the suede J Brands with Pistols and Monty but due to rain I am swapping trousers for leather MiH's. Yellow bag. Not sure about this evening yet Smile.

Pickled re the Whistles top, I was thinking of a more casual vibe than the pic, teaming it with white or blue cropped jeans with ballet flats..just picked up these blochs on ebay for a bargain, would pick up the pink in the top. Am going to try on and get DH opinion too...

shopafrolic · 07/03/2013 09:17

I meant to say that I used my cream saddle bag for the first time yesterday. I have never had a cross body bag before and I absolutely love it. So much easier with DS! Too wet for it today though so I have the MNV sweater on to cheer me up.
What's everyone else wearing today?

shopafrolic · 07/03/2013 09:19

Love that MIL gift Sleep - much more generous than I would be with mine! Grin

shopafrolic · 07/03/2013 09:26

Lots of Lancome on Brand Alley if you know your colours.....

FrugalFashionista · 07/03/2013 09:35

Ooh Shop Mars and Venus from 1960s - need to read that! Loving the cover. And others, please, tell us to shut up if you don't want style And relationship quotes from 1964 Grin

Doing what Frugal does best today, ie demure ladylike Wink
Outfit of the day - adapted a look I saw either on Pin or Matches catalogue the other day: slim bootcut jeans (7FAM, bargain from Yoox several years ago, pale denim and slightly too short, entering really dangerous territory here...), 3.99 white H&M vest, untucked thick cream silk pussy-bow blouse (consignment shop, last year, bow undone), free subscriber's gift mock-Tiffany chain bracelet (my new love), extra chunky silver smoky quartz cocktail ring (2008, The Phantom would love this), extremely flat and extremely pointy-toed nude flats (ca 2002 or 2004). When going out I can add a teal blue corduroy Boy Band of Outsiders blazer (big splurge sales find from Matches this year - I don't even like corduroy but the color is my perfect blue) and my taupe posh handbag (bought before Christmas to celebrate a milestone, worn almost constantly ever since: great CPW). And again, face flawless with LRP products (breakout almost gone!) and old eye shadow used as a brow powder.

Ladies what are you wearing today?

shopafrolic · 07/03/2013 09:36

Quick question, I must stock up on a few vest tops (as mine have holes in) before DH is out of work. I remember people saying H&M vests are dirt cheap and wash well? Are these the ones that people talked about (I know Dona was a fan......)
vests

shopafrolic · 07/03/2013 09:39

Aaaaa Frugal you must be wearing the same vest - can you link?

Sleepwhenidie · 07/03/2013 09:43

Gorgeous blazer frugal, looks like one of those rare items that would actually look better on a real person rather than a model too Grin

YY to h&m vests. I have loads, also a few more expensive ones (Whistles) and h&m keep their shape better...but also a gig fan of the GAP body ones with the lacy straps, they are fantastic fit and quality, 30% code has also just started I think? That would make them about £6 rather than £9 iirc. Only problem is you can't always find the colours you want.

AmberNectarine · 07/03/2013 09:44

Actual outfit quite dull today (black bodycon l/s Me&Em dress, opaques and black ballerinas) because I am wearing my awesome leopard print trench coat. Have added el cheapo H&M neon pink belt and green Gracie for colour purposes.

FrugalFashionista · 07/03/2013 09:45

Shop this - perfect under everything.

QueenCadbury · 07/03/2013 09:58

Agree with frugal they are fab vests. Also the ones from Dorothy Perkins.

Just done a gap shop as dh needed some new stuff (he leaves me in charge of all clothes buying!) and the destructed jeans may have fallen into my basket as did these. So much for my self imposed shopping ban but hey, having my colours done is not going to stop me wearing jeans.

I've never stopped wearing boot cut jeans as I love the shape of them. I haven't worn bootcut trousers in a while though as usually do cropped nowadays.

amber I think I have your cold. Feeling pretty rough today.

FrugalFashionista · 07/03/2013 10:12

I think I may just have found a new formula:
Slim bootcuts+silk blouse+pointy toe flats
Add this and I'm ready for a gallery opening (tonight!). Formal but relaxed.
Add a bone-colored circular cardigan or a chunky cable cardigan = casual but not too casual Wink
Add a blazer = crisp but casual work look
Add a navy slimline coat and navy suede loafers = preppy extravaganza
All items from my wardrobe. Endless possibilities...

MarshaBrady · 07/03/2013 10:14

Liberty I love that Gerard Darel dress, so chic and the cardigan.

Yoox makes sense now I know it's overstock. Good if you've a keen eye and can disregard bad shots.

Pickled well done on bargainous Blochs.

Drywhite ah, there'll be the perfect ones.

Sleep I love that Comptoir jacket! Lucky Mil! I sent the Goldsigns back, I can't have two x off-white skinnies. Also still feel too expensive, I like to pay 50%+ discount for jeans as it's always quite easy to find. Well I didn't for the MiH but they are looked upon fondly since rescued.

Shop woo on the cream saddle bag. Love that one. It's fab to have a small one am a complete convert.

Amber your leopard trench sounds good! Where's it from?

QueenC definitely worth it, you'll still wear the jeans.

Sounds good Frugal!

I am in pale pink acne chinos, white buttoned up shirt, APC apricot jumper and black Lanvin black suede wedges. I don't own a proper blazer, just a very old Saba jacket in black, but the line is too long and it irritates me. I have a work thing about a project so should really throw it on. But I need to feel right. Not keen on spending on one quite yet although I should, just find it a bit dull.

AmberNectarine · 07/03/2013 10:30

I almost don't want to admit it, because you will all automatically assume it is horrible, but the trench is from M&S. It is lovely though, proper leopard print (I'm very fussy, any leopard print I wear has to actually look like you might see it on a leopard) and great detailing. Will feature on blog later today.

MarshaBrady · 07/03/2013 10:34

Bet it's great.

foxysocks · 07/03/2013 10:34

anni yes it arrived - there is a thank you post from me somewhere a few pages back! goldsigns are also PERFECT

I was planning on the new anthracite goldsigns today, with ash clay trainers and the MNV knit but don't want to wear ANY of it out in the rain so am in an old (circa 2007) reiss petrol blue fine knit merino jumper dress with bell sleeves, grey marl opaques, wide low-slung choc leather belt (bought from river island when i was a saturday girl in 1998!) and knee high choc leather boots (again, SO old, bought in 2004 with my first eve paycheck).

marsha you are my hero for dealing with the MiH disaster so well! i might need to PM you again about goldsigns, have my eye on some white ones too now. cannot get over the quality of these jeans, they are just perfection.

amber love the sound of your coat. i've never been brave enough for animal print but am feeling that 2013 may be my year. have been looking at ballerinas though, need to wean myself in slowly :-)

queenc two very sensible buys i think, well done

another YY to H&M vests BUT my neon coral one has faded horribly already, and the stitching does come down too requiring stray thread to be cut off. annoying, but for £4 whatcha gonna do?!

i can't scroll back to see who asked about NAP, but for me it would be investment in basics. i need new tees in black, white and grey marl, and then would throw that fab rose gold bangle into the bag too. et voila!

MarshaBrady · 07/03/2013 10:38

Foxy go for it. And thanks have never been so pleased to see a delivery, via dh. SP are probably nearly closed now, so fast!

And meant to say Goldsigns are big in size so Sleep I reckon you could do the 25, if you fancied the cheaper ones.

FrugalFashionista · 07/03/2013 10:52

Amber M&S is improving vastly but under the radar at the mo - various good items there for the selective and discerning shopper.

A few further ways to use my bootcut+silk blouse formula:
Add white cotton Zara blazer to channel cruise ship entertainer Wink
And add an old and tatty Zara feather vest for a yummy mummy travesty.

For GBP 300 on NAP, I'd return/ask for refund and use the money elsewhere. Not sure why I almost never find anything there - had unused store credit with them for well over a year Shock

MarshaBrady · 07/03/2013 10:53

I'd get the blush flats. (of the name I may not utter until I purchase).

Decameron · 07/03/2013 10:57

That's a lovely dress, Liberty. I'd probably buy these as I have them in other colours (though found them on sale) and the fit is great. Or this Chinti & Parker, I know it's over budget but I love it.

I like those trousers, QueenCadbury, very summery.

Your grandmother sounds fabulous, Shop. I buy those H&M vests too.

I'm enjoying the style quotes. Also, really enjoying this thread again!

I'm wearing this today with a navy Barbour hat and jacket when I took DD2 to her music class earlier.

I also still have bootcuts, must start wearing them again.

Pickled, I shall certainly lend you the bag if I buy it but have taken the first step of deleting it from Pinterest!

Annianni · 07/03/2013 11:00

Does anyone have uk size 8 feet?
Gigi's for £34

I'm wearing yesterdays Hudson Gia skinnys, with a white h&m vest (I prefer the thicker strapped version) and this cashmere sweater.
Feel cold today, i've even put the fire on.

AmberNectarine · 07/03/2013 11:01

Do you know, I've thought about it and thought about it, and I'm not sure I even want a new bag after all. I might just spend the money on a few smaller items I really do want...

Annianni · 07/03/2013 11:04

Hope you find something nice in Whistles then Foxy.
Glad the jeans are a success.
