Is that night feeds and do you express too? I went back to work at 4 months p/t so I spent nearly a year with no breaks as I used to take 2 expressing "breaks" a day. It meant everything I wore had to breastfeeding friendly so could get boobs quite quickly!

Evening all. Well, received my package from &Other Stories and here to duly report back my findings.
The quality seems really good - the fabrics are quite sheer but in a good way, not cheap-looking at all. The designs are lovely, simple but cut well. The yellow sleeveless top was a much brighter, more acidic yellow than appeared in the picture. At first I wasn't sure about it, but have decided I actually prefer it stronger as the sheer fabric can take it (it doesn't look washed out).
The one downside has been the sizing. The grey panel top fits perfectly, but the yellow sleeveless is tight across the bust, causing it to gape under the arms (and I'm no busty Lil'). Both are the same size, so I'm swapping the yellow for a bigger size - I'd prefer the looser fit anyway. The indigo pumps are absolutely gorgeous - great colour and design and lovely leather soles. Unfortunately they are also huge! A full size too big, so I'm returning them too, although I will definitely just be exchanging for a smaller size. The shame is that there is no exchange facility - I will have to return the items and re-order them, which is a bit inconvenient. For style and quality though, I was really pleased with the things I bought and would recommend.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 18/03/2013 22:38

Noooo! Just went back on the &OtherStories website and my lovely ballerinas have disappeared! Now I'm wondering if I should just keep the big ones I have and fill them with insoles! Conflicted.

Annianni · 18/03/2013 22:51

Oh no Grumpy, email them and ask?

Love that top QueenC
And the blouse Blond

libertychick · 18/03/2013 22:53

Wow well done Amber and novice on bf for as long as you have done. I only made it to 9/10 weeks.

Decam I didn't try the VIP code as I didn't have time to go through it all again and after the call to them I really had to get back to work - may try again tomorrow.

Thanks for the feedback Grumpy - I find H&M and Cos sizing a bit arbitrary so sounds like they have the same issue with & other stories but good news on the quality.

I have just ordered this skirt. I tried it on in BR at the weekend and really liked it but didn't get it as the colour is a big departure for me but have been thinking about it ever since and reckon it would work with a Next navy fitted linen blazer I have (several years old and use every summer) and styled a bit like this. Any other styling thought v welcome - it would also work with the Gap top QueenC linked I think.

Novice you generated a great discussion last night - thanks everyone for all the stories. Drywhite don't tell Amber about 'the thing' - too cruel Wink

Anni your mother and mine could be twins separated at birth - mine is always telling me how bad my hair is and how people I went to school with who, despite having more children and harder lives, look at least 5 years younger than me! And then she wonders why I don't move back home!

libertychick · 18/03/2013 23:01

And how many of us have this sweater now?? Decam, Foxy, justasecond, me.... the meet up will be the olive I&I's on one side of the table with the AV's on the other side Smile

Drywhiteplease · 18/03/2013 23:02

This evenings topic:
Most hideous crime against fashion you have worn.......mine was a cow print skirt ( think fresian) ....thought it was v chic with all black.
As a teenager in the 80s I rocked the back combed hairsprayed hair with flicks, electric blue mascara and eyeliner with the pearlescent lipstick. A turquoise jumpsuit s inched in at the waist with a big belt, my Kathrine Hamnet " go for it" over sized t shirt, white stilettos and white pencil skits with droopy chunky belt ( loved Wham obv!!) god I loved those outfits!!!!

I'm off to bed, look forward to your contributions.......please.....or I'll feel a total prat Blush

libertychick · 18/03/2013 23:21

Crimes against fashion - ahem - a lot but probably the worst was when I was about 23 and had my first promotion and decided I needed to be more grown up looking at work and bought an 'outfit' that was a mid calf length pleated blue floral skirt with a fitted navy jacket with a collar in the same material as the skirt - there are 90 year olds who would consider it too old for them and I cringe whenever I think of it.

Your 80's stuff sounds quite cool Drywhite....

Decameron · 18/03/2013 23:28

Jeez, Liberty, your mother knows how to build you up!

Grumpy, hope you track down the shoes.

I had a pink rara skirt and matching top I was very fond of, which I teamed with black lace gloves (in an effort to look like Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan).

AmberNectarine · 18/03/2013 23:40

Yes to night feeds novicd, but no expressing, she wouldn't touch a bottle to save her life. She toughs it out on my work days and makes up for it the rest of the time.

Fashion crimes; I went through a phase of wearing one glow in the day skeleton earring when I was c.17. Because y'know, two would have just looked stupid...

libertychick · 18/03/2013 23:56

Decam it actually makes me laugh now! She doesn't even realise she is doing it - just one of those people with no editing abilities - if the thought pops into her head she says it. At my SILs mother's funeral she went on and on about how she was older than SILs mother but obviously much fitter and healthier - we had to bundle her out of the room before one of SILs family decked her! At family get together's we entertain each other with stories of her latest 'foot in mouth' incident. Grin

MrsRadicchio · 19/03/2013 06:35

Liberty, I like that skirt. Would def look good with the navy Breton as per your pin. I also think a more white Breton top, ie with thin blue stripes would look good too. Also grey and yellow go well together. A charcoal grey blazer would work I think. Also a denim or chambray shirt if you wanted to dress it down.

Fashion crimes wise, I used to have a pair of black platform shoes with zebra patterns on them. Hard to describe but they were similar to the buffalo shoes the spice girls wore. I also have worn Birkenstocks with a wedge. Not a good Look.

there seems to be lots of people with some French roots on this thread. me too, my mum is French.

Thanks for feedback on & other stories, grumpy. Sounds good though shame about random sizing.

Love that pink bag justasecond bought.

Sorry can't look up thread but it was me with the leopard boots. New look ones too. Do you fond yours comfortable?

MrsRadicchio · 19/03/2013 06:39

Ah, it was blond who also has new look leopard boots.

Drywhiteplease · 19/03/2013 07:11

That's why we're all so chic mrsR!!!!!!Grin

AmberNectarine · 19/03/2013 08:00

I had actually Buffalos, which I used to wear with baggy combats, a kookai crop top and an Adidas sweatshirt knotted insouciantly around my waist. The 90s were hot.

I also thought of another terrible outfit I wore in my 'experimental' years; a child's argyle sweater (age 6 or something ridiculous - I was 16), cropped dungarees, long argyle socks and plimsolls. I also had a pair of vintage green, mauve and white vertically striped flared Levi's that I bought from Camden Lock market. I thought I was the mutt's, they were exactly as horrible as they sound. I also did the goth thing, and bought a lot of my clothes from that godawful goth shop at the centre of Camden market, can't remember the name. Suffice to say there were a lot of corset, red, black, purple lace and customised fishnets. Oh and these patent black with metal heeled stripper boots. Not a good time, sartorially.

MarshaBrady · 19/03/2013 08:14

Love these outfits.

My gm was from the NE of France, so she was very tall not petite. And there's a string of tall blondes in my family. I'm the same, so am not French-like at all, just Aussie. Love picking up on all the little cultural quirks.

On the bad stuff. Well I used to mix it up hugely in early 20s and went through phase of making own stuff, charity shop and some designer. Knee high socks and lace up boots used to feature quite heavily. Then there were the boring office years in late 20s. Went through a crisis of style then, just found it so dull . Glad to have emerged from other side.

But worst would be age 16. We were mini-Sloanes and had a penchant for velvet Alice bands, little air hostess scarves, some wore pearls, frilled pie crust collars and the worse blazers with shoulder pads. At 16 my goodness. And couldn't have been further away from Sloane Square. Travels well Grin

Drywhite I love the sound of yours, and you know white stilettos are in again?

MarshaBrady · 19/03/2013 08:23

Liberty that skirt looks great with the stripes. And yes to navy. I saw a fabulous pin yesterday with a yellow skirt and a paler lemon yellow one. Am trying to find it, but think I can only scroll back so far.

Grumpy that's interesting re Other Stories. I have my eye on a stripey t in there. But need to return some stuff first.

Drywhite love all that J Crew stuff you pinned. The flats, and the gorgeous soft green cashmere. Good ones for the sales.

BrandyAlexander · 19/03/2013 09:01

Arf at the bad outfitsGrin I have too many to listGrin. Am currently at airport waiting to board flight. Arrive afternoon, 3 back to back meetings, dinner then first flight back tomorrow definitely no shopping!

Am wearing all Austin Reed- grey trouser suit, new beaded collar top and louboutins. Accessories are balenciaga and then all gifts from dh: Tiffany studs, Tiffany charm bracelet, Hermes watch, boodles ring oh and mil pendant (no I haven't taken it off yet!). Definitely a need to look chic where I am going!

shopafrolic · 19/03/2013 09:16

Off to the docs today but have bad outfits a plenty.
14yrs old - oversized denim shirt with charity shop pinstriped blazer and bright green scarf tied round neck like a choker.
17yrs old - all about the music man. Lots of hooded sweatshirts with paisley and yin and yan emblems or acid house smiley faces, leggings and those trainers with mutlicoloured laces that you wove into a pattern (can't remember their name)
19-21 - the Madchester years. I was a dancer at raves and the Hacienda so could list all sorts of horrors but standard was a black Wonderbra, black hotpants, suit jacket, biker boots and a luminous white glove.
Mid 20s leather trousers, big chunky jumpers and pony skin black and white platform boots.
Lots of faux fur, lots of pleather. I was once scouted for a movie about clubbing wearing a faux leather cropped corset with red wonderbra poking above, and a matching floor length fishtail faux leather skirt!
I'm better now, not least because I don't go clubbing anymore so have a few more brain cells in tact nowadays!

MrsRadicchio · 19/03/2013 09:33

Ooo Shop, I want to hear more about the Madchester years!

shopafrolic · 19/03/2013 09:44

What do you want to know MrsR?
I saw Shaun Ryder from the Happy Mondays fall off his bar stool in Dry Bar with a full glass and he didn't spill a drop (he was very pleased). Lots of nights in the Hacienda, lots of James, Happy Mondays,-=trance music, drugs, booze - not big, not clever but good fun! Dancing to Things can only get better by D:Ream before it became a political anthem! Afflecks Palace for clothes (I followed Take That round there for hours like a sad groupie). God I'm SOOOOO OLD! Could bore people for hours with tales of celebrity spots and 4 day benders but this is S&B..........

MrsRadicchio · 19/03/2013 09:45

I keep obsessing about animal print but I love these

I am wearing green J Crew cords, denim shirt and navy slipper shoes - I looked in the mirror and it looks very sloany! Need a shoe change I think.

What would you wear with slipper shoes?

QueenCadbury · 19/03/2013 09:49

Grin at all your bad outfits. I'm trying to think of my worst but I think I've always been a fairly dull classic dresser. I did got through the hippy/grunge thing in the early 90s. Long cheesecloth or laura Ashley shirts, docs and lots of beads and layers of cardigans instead of a coat. amber I used to love if I visited London going to Camden and buying 2nd hand Levi's from there.

Can't keep up with who's bought what but glad to hear that &other stories is good quality but what a pain that you can't exchange. Yes to the yellow skirt liberty. As others have said it will look great with grey or navy. I'm wearing my new top today.

Must go. Dd seems to have some crisps. Not sure where from as they live in a high cupboard so am reckoning she must have found them in the bin. Hmm,surely a sign I should engage more and spend less time on mnv.

MrsRadicchio · 19/03/2013 09:58

I read Peter Hook's book about the Hacienda. Just sounds like a mad time when people were focussed on having fun and not much else! Sure it was just a small pocket of people though. Really like the Stone Roses but was too young to like them at the time (the first time).

MrsRadicchio · 19/03/2013 10:02

I also like that movie "Control" (I think, about Joy Division). Haven't seen 24 Hour Party People but heard its good.
