I think I am in proportion (having checked, I'm 32G rather than 34G) but a lot of skirts and trousers that fit on the hips are way too big on the waist. This is where true wrap dresses fit so well. I prefer them if they belt slightly low on the waist and also having the same colour or pattern on top and bottom seems to work. Like Amber, I can't go near high necks or frills or ruffles. I am also careful of animal print so as to avoid the Bet Lynch effect Grin.

Topazandpearl · 17/03/2013 10:24

Shop and everyone else who is ill, or whose DCs are ill, I hope you all feel better soon Flowers and Shamrock.

blondambition · 17/03/2013 10:24

Morning all, Happy St Patrick's and get well soon to poorly people.

Just to say I have the olive green cable sleeve (L), and olive/acid green stripe (M) I&I jumpers if anyone is interested. I got a bit excited when it all arrived and ripped the tags off straight away but realise neither are really 'me'.

I would say they are similar in size, the cable one has come up a bit small. I'm a broad shouldered 10 on top and both pretty slouchy on me so would be fine 10-12 depending on the fit you like.

So if anyone wants them please PM me and I'll send for the cost of the jumpers and free postage as I've ripped off the tags!

MarshaBrady · 17/03/2013 10:27

Hi Blond and Topaz

Happy St Patrick's Day all.

Thanks Shop have ordered some Twiggys. I really love the off-white ones you got from the outnet. You inspired me. Much better than the pics on the site.

blondambition · 17/03/2013 10:29

Have been lured over to Cocosa, so quick Q for Shop - how is the sizing on the Twiggy's?

I also have a long list of fashion no-nos learnt the hard way. Can't do:
frills, bows, wrap dresses/tops, pattern, halternecks (look like olympic swimmer), high/polo necks, crew neck cardies like Amber.

libertychick · 17/03/2013 10:36

Topaz I so resent not getting a bank holiday - it's such a long stretch too between xmas and Easter - St Paddy's Day weekend was always a nice way to break it up.

Interesting all the can't do's. My tricky area is bum and thighs and I am pear shaped so much smaller on top. I have to resist the inclination to emphasize the small top half too much as that just makes the lower half look even bigger. I cannot do drop waists at all and I have to watch where tops end really carefully or my legs will look enormous. This type of t shirt is the ultimate 'must not wear' for me, makes me look almost scrawny on top, stops at the fattest part of my thighs and slogans/statements are something I like on others but feel a complete edjit in myself! Crew and high necks can be variable - in the wrong ones it can look like my boobs have dropped to my waist! Delicate jewellery looks totally ridiculous on me.

I could write a blog for a year on the issues I have with footwear caused by fat ankles, chunky calves and a shockingly poor sense of balance! Ditto the issues created by having knees like a fat 80 year old with cellulitis! Grin

libertychick · 17/03/2013 10:42

Shamrock Shamrock Shamrock just wanted to use it! Flowers to MNHQ for providing it! As befits the day it's pouring rain here....

MarshaBrady · 17/03/2013 10:45

Oh fabulous I love those!

Blond on the Twiggys the outnet says true to size, but the other link in Shop's post says go one down. I just went for my normal size.

MarshaBrady · 17/03/2013 10:48

Liberty Grin

Imagine if we had a fancy dress no no party. I think our first words would be what fresh hell is this?

libertychick · 17/03/2013 10:53

Marsha at that party we could just nip to the loo and swap outfits, your version of hell sounds perfect for me Smile

MarshaBrady · 17/03/2013 10:56

Haha yes, good idea Grin.

libertychick · 17/03/2013 10:58

Calling the ebay experts - talk to me about tactics...do you bid early, wait till the closing minutes...something I want and have never done the bidding thing before - also it closes at a rubbish time - baby bath time so my ability to take quick action could be limited....

foxysocks · 17/03/2013 11:16

liberty I am not an expert but I wait till the last hour/30 mins then bid. always have a max in my head before I start which I won't go over as sometimes people have snipers set up so the last few mins go crazy. i don't know how you get a sniper but someone else probably will...

blondambition · 17/03/2013 11:46

Grin at the no no party idea!

Marsha you and I would be in similar outfits, although I can 'do' a cowl neck! I'd probably have a pussy bow blouse on instead Grin

blondambition · 17/03/2013 11:47

Thanks re the Twiggy info. Tempting....

MrsRadicchio · 17/03/2013 12:36

Interesting re no nos. Don't think I've fully figured mine out apart from things like short skirts / skinny jeans due to chunky legs. I have a suspicion that relaxed "I've not made an effort but look great" (Kate moss style) which I love I cannot pull off. Think I just end up looking boring in jean

AmberNectarine · 17/03/2013 12:42

No offence Marsha, but having met you, you would look ridiculous in that ensemble!

It would be like me in a gypsy skirt and a Victoriana high neck blouse. Urgh.

Have remembered another think I can't do - puff sleeves or shoulder pads of any description. I swum at county level in my youth and have the shoulders to prove it. I would look like a cross dressing henchman in the above.

MarshaBrady · 17/03/2013 12:48

Hehe I know, so bad. So bad in fact that it qualifies as fancy dress. Am laughing thinking about it.

Amber you could wear a shoulder padded jacket with those frills and gypsy skirt. That'd be fab.

MarshaBrady · 17/03/2013 12:59

On me that is, I know others can wear with great aplomb.

Even my sister can wear the opposite to me.

BrandyAlexander · 17/03/2013 13:31

Amber, Marsha I shuddered when I read that description - shoulder pads, gypsy skirt and Victorianna top! Amber our no, nos are the same, I can see we have the same body shape - hourglass, except you're a couple of inches taller I think? And long torso.

BrandyAlexander · 17/03/2013 13:37

Mrs R, I agree. I love that look, unfortunately it doesn't love me back Grin

Annianni · 17/03/2013 13:44

I'm in Tkmaxx changing rooms wearing a pair of Hudson carlys.

They are pulling across the back of my thighs... I need to put them back and not buy them. Bugger.

They also have black Hudson skinnys, but I look weird in black jeans Hmm

Drywhiteplease · 17/03/2013 14:07

Hello all....feet up after nearly dying in kettle bells class this morning.

Loving the no nos.

I'm 5.3. Pear shaped...small waist compared to bum.

But unlike you lucky ladies have no boobs ( 32b/a impossible to find bras ESP strapless) but a lot of your no nos are my yes yeses.......love frills, high necks, slash necks, boat necks, statement necklaces, puff sleeves,Victoriana etc anything to make my top half balance with my bottom half ( bet you have a great mental image of my wardrobe nowGrin)

My no nos have always been things that emphasise my bum/thighs,but interesting to see your comments on my pics. I lost a stone last year and have worked hard to get my bad bits under control but still see them the way they were iykwim.

No nos......

white skinny jeans, never never never!( but maybe......)
Shorts
Deep v necks emphasise my bony chest...eek
I don't do the rock chic look, love it on others,
Maxis just drown me (like novice)

Drywhiteplease · 17/03/2013 14:10

P..s I love this thread, inspiring..........

Drywhiteplease · 17/03/2013 14:13

Oh and liberty re Ebay, I find it quite thrilling bidding ( Sagittarius are supposed to be prone to gambling!!) so always set a max and bid that from the start......then have a peek 15 mins before end, this is not advisable!
