Been lusting after a bayswater for ages. But something holding me back, which other bags are classics which wont date....

I have an oak Mulberry Alexa, black Balenciaga City and black classic Balenciaga day. I also have a few other mulberries bought in the sale or from outlets. I have a black bayswater for work. I love all my bags and I know I will have them forever. They all make me happy when I use them. I tend to reach for my Balenciaga day bag the most as it is so light and easy to use and also fits well over a winter coat. In summer i like to use my oak alexa. Balenciaga bags have lovely soft leather and I think they look edgy. Have fun choosing! Please let us know what you choose.

I like this one.

But, I love this one and this one.

I love my Prada ones. I mean, just scroll down this page. The colours are amazing, it greatly please me Grin

LulaPalooza · 23/02/2013 12:28

LizzyLou the MK bag is lovely, isn't it? I mad a decision last night that I'm going to buy it when I get made redundant later this year! Maybe I should use a bit more of the money to go on a trip to NY or DC, Internationaltraveller and buy it there?!

Tote bags are bags with no zip or fastening, used for shopping. Ease of access.

However, I don't think I'll be doing my weekly shop with my MK tote.

LulaPalooza · 23/02/2013 12:45

Ooh you're not wrong about those Prada bags, Nora. Beautiful.

Looks like I was wrong about tote bags not having a fastening... the Prada totes have zips

Eastpoint · 23/02/2013 12:46

I think all the Mulberry bags are made in Somerset, its one of the reasons they are expensive, all their employees are paid proper wages & are adults. The COO of Mulberry moved to Loewe with Stuart Vevers about 4 years ago - she was very good at testing the bags before they went into production to ensure they were resilient. Since she left I think they have gone more slebby. I like the Loewe bags but they are more expensive.

The Chloe Marcie looks fab on, I have a friend with one & it always looks beautiful, great on school run or for work.

The thing is you use your bag every day. That's how I justified my Michael Kors Bag last year. I smile every time I look at it!

eminemmerdale · 23/02/2013 13:25

I would love love love a trendy satchel type bag - not cambridge ones but one of the soft leather types like this sort of thing

Bayswater but a Bayswater Tote :-)

Sulawesi · 23/02/2013 13:34

I love that PS1, gorgeous. Trust me to pick THE most expensive bag on this thread Grin!

coffeeinbed · 23/02/2013 13:51

I have a Loewe bag.
Wore it for years and years and it's still in very good shape.
No logos, nothing, so very wearable.
Just well made.

coraltoes · 23/02/2013 14:15

Oh and yes to Prada, beautiful, not in your face and amazing colours. Getting one next month for work as a bonus treat...just need to choose a colour! Ignore the "haters" as beyond would say, enjoy treating yourself. Why should it matter to someone else what you spend YOUR money on?! Better than smoking it or shooting it into your veins.

Bellebelle · 23/02/2013 14:16

Mulberry Alexa is the best bag I've bought for versatility - satchel style when hands full, carry using handle for smarter look. However I wouldn't get too hung up about buying something classic, just get something you love. I think the days of bags 'dating' are gone, a well made, well loved bag looks better IMO. I bought some Miu Miu bags in the late '90's (I was VERY irresponsible with my student loan Blush) and still use them now.

I'm currently coveting a 3.1 Philip Lim bag. Either a Pashil Satchel (again can be worn either way) in dark blue or a 31hr bag in aubergine. The leather is beautiful and they tend to be slightly cheaper than Mulberry.

Bellebelle · 23/02/2013 14:18

Yes to Lowe too, beautifully well made and understated.

armagh · 23/02/2013 15:30

I'd keep saving so i could buy a Chanel Grin.

LulaPalooza · 23/02/2013 16:09

I wonder how long it would take to save up for this?

How much would I get for a kidney, d'you reckon?

Paribus · 23/02/2013 16:21

OP, wait for sales- this year they were selling medium Chloe parakyte bag www.google.co.uk/search?q=chloe+paraty+bag&hl=ru&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=q-ooUY3BIcmt0QWSh4DgDg&ved=0CDQQsAQ&biw=1024&bih=690 for around 700 in Harrods and I got large Chloe Marcie in tan for around 660 in Harrods sale as well! The same applies to most of the brands, so you might want to wait.
I personally love Ferragamo Sofia-www.google.co.uk/search?hl=ru&biw=1024&bih=690&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=ferragamo+sofia+bag&oq=ferragamo+so&gs_l=img.1.0.0i19l3j0i5i19l4.199176.206113.0.207806.27.23.0.3.3.9.308.2464.7j13j0j1.21.0...0.0...1ac.1.4.img.YBQXRZDb2Lw, bought it in grey for about 600 in stylebop's winter sale- so it's worthwhile to have a look at official online retailers of the luxury goods as they might have some very good deals.
Bayswater bags are beauiful but stain easily so beware ;).

Paribus · 23/02/2013 16:27

Forgot to mention- Anya Hindmarch bags are beautiful and wear really well, and so does LV Neverfull- I had mine for 4 years, have been using it almost every day as it's very light, practical and goes with everything, have been lugging tons of baby/toddler/preschooler stuff in it, bottles of water, gym wear, taking it on the planes, to the beach- it still looks like new!

Paribus · 23/02/2013 16:31

And have a look at Coach bags- they ate relatively new here, but very popular in the States. Very good leather, nice designs.

NewChoos · 23/02/2013 19:28

I've got a black bayswater, I love it but it is a bit too heavy (sometime I make DH carry it mid trip).
Definitely worth a trip to Bicester village if you are near, often good buys in Anya Hindmarch, less options in Mulberry. Also a Michael Kors, Coach and an Orla Kiely with good discounts.

NewChoos · 23/02/2013 19:29

Would love a Hermes...

NicolaSeven · 23/02/2013 20:08

I have a five year old Mulberry, which I have treated with SERIOUS disrespect - sippy cups rolling around in it, squashed raisins on the bottom, the occasional penicilin-like culture grown from discarded sandwiches and it STILL looks good (on the outside).

Cost per wear, I think it's done pretty well.

buttercrumble · 24/02/2013 14:16

Pretty much decided it will be a mulberry bayswater in oak, has anybody managed to get hold if one in the mulberry outlet at york. I dont suppose they will get the more popular styles in that much.....

OP posts:
Allthingspretty · 24/02/2013 14:25

I dont think that you will stand a good chance of getting a oak bays at any oytlwt butter to be honeat. They are open today so give them a call. If they do have a perfect one they can post them out.
