Bayswater all the way buttercrumble - I bought myself one 6 years ago and it's seen me thru all sorts, plus weathered the crapola you carry around with 2 kids (post baby stages!), and looks as sexy as it did on the day it was purchased, albeit a bit more weathered! Classic, timeless and British made! Although I have to admit I would DIE for one of these but its safe to say unless I win the Euromillions lottery that won't be happening! I have got a large Somerset tote too and that's been a corker. Sorry Blush I'm a big Mulberry fan!

'Bench lot' is from a thread a month or so ago where a poster had been left some money in a Will specifically to buy a bag or something frivolous and loads of posters came on to tell her it was a profligate waste and she should spend it on a memorial bench

I missed that Grin

When I was left some money by my grandparents the first thing I did was go out and buy an expensive watch that I had been lusting after for YEARS - every time I look at the time it makes me smile :)

Enjoy your new bag OP x

I don't know why people keep saying that Mulberry quality has gone down. I went and cast my eye on them the other day and the quality seemed excellent, potentially higher than other bags in that price range. I have a Mulberry from years ago and I can't say it's better quality than those being made now.

I don't think Mulberry quality has gone down at all - over the last 6-7 years I've bought a Bayswater Grin, Somerset, Del Ray and most recently one of their new goat skin fold over clutches. All gorgeous, all really well made and the first two have held up to all sorts of bashing by me & small people. The other 2 are like taxi shoes - going out only and only with protector spray Wink. Whatever you spend your money on with be an investment bag - perhaps not on the scale of an Hermes Birkin which can increase in value as they years go on, but will be an investment to you. Cover whatever you buy in leather protector spray and enjoy it! So what if its "just a bag"?!! It's your bag, your money & you spend it how you want Smile

I've just read this thread with great interest. I own quite a few Mulberry bags, purchased over the last 3 years. I love them and get great pleasure from carrying them. Call me shallow if you like. I bought a black Bayswater yesterday from the York outlet for £556. It had just arrived in store, I was probably the first customer I see it and I bought it straight away. It's for my birthday in 3 weeks and DH was planning to buy me a full price one from elsewhere so is thrilled that I've saved us £250. I was very lucky but it shows it is possible to strike lucky. To those asking the York outlet is a great and friendly shop, browsing is absolutely fine and welcomed and I've had a few real bargains from there.

For me I'd rather have something I can enjoy everyday than more holidays. I don't smoke, drink little and I've never been on a long haul holiday. I know I'm very fortunate to be able to spend that much money on a bag now, but I'm nearly 50 and this would have been unthinkable a few years ago. Getting older has to have some benefits. Leave the OP alone.

Just to add, my bag was made in England. Yes there are some bags made abroad now but manufacturing is still alive and well here with a brand new factory as well as the old original one. If you're going to sneer at least get your facts correct.

Yeah I'd read they were opening a new factory here. Great brand, great business, great products.

I don't understand the poster that said get a cheap bag and go on holiday with the rest, then started arguing about the morals issues of spending loads of a bag....

Some of us couldn't care for holidays, where as a nice bag that looks pretty that we can enjoy using and taking care of... something that lasts years and years rather than is used as a 'break' for only a short amount of time...

I don't get it... I would get myself a gorgeous bag, no matter what the price, if I could afford it, rather than go on holiday or something equally... meh.

Enjoy your bag OP... I am so skint you have no idea but can accept that others aren't without getting bitchy and jealous (and then deciding to turn it into a non existent moral issue because of that jealousy!) :o

Also glad the OP didn't get a bench (although that might have been another handbag thread). A bench is so impractical - far too heavy to carry around for anything other than a very short distance and your keys and lippy just fall through the slats.

BLOODY BLOODY HELL!! The MK tote bag I linked to near the beginning of this thread has gone up in price by £20 since I last posted on this thread! It was £285 previously.

Gggrrr at Selfridges.
