Time for a new bra thread

I am officially a mad bra lady. I staged an intervention today in M&S in an attempt to stop a young lady buying a 36B. She was with her mum who told me her daughter was a size 12 and that's why they'd picked up a 36. I advised her to try a 30! I am now feeling a mixture of shame and pride.

They were like this Shock Confused

Good idea NN, will get cracking. We have tweeted MN towers but no help forthcoming. No idea if it's because it's M&S or because they are wading in spam! Probably just not enough support.

SpottyTeacakes · 03/03/2013 14:33

OK, I ordered a load. I can't tweet anything because I don't have twitter but have liked the FB page!

FierceBadIggi · 03/03/2013 14:39

Hotmilk think my measurements make me a 40D, which seems odd as my new bra is a 34J.
Struggling to find nursing bra websites that actually go up large enough, which is odd as when else do women have bigger breasts!

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/03/2013 14:48

Having tried a couple I think HotMilk use the same sizing as everyone else. Are any of these any good

SpottyTeacakes · 03/03/2013 14:48

Hotmilk has be as a 34B Hmm

SpottyTeacakes · 03/03/2013 14:49

I could take a photo of a badly fitting bra for your blog Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/03/2013 14:50

Ooh please Spotty. I tried to take photos in the M&S fitting room yesterday but they weren't good enough to post (although they did make DH laugh. A lot. )

SpottyTeacakes · 03/03/2013 14:52

If you PM me an email address I will do it tomorrow, it's one I'm actually wearing Blush

SorrelForbes · 03/03/2013 15:15

I can send some pics SC (they are gruesome though!)

Sorrel or any of you lovely ladies, please tell me what bra size I should get.

I'm 33 inches around my ribs and 44 around my norks.
So far I have 34g which seem to hold me in but as my boobs are quite high on my chest, the majority of bras dig in under my arms summat rotten... Tia

showtunesgirl · 03/03/2013 15:33

I think it's a 32HH?

showtunesgirl · 03/03/2013 15:34

And also in a plunge style. I have high boobs and plunge is what works on me.

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/03/2013 15:36

I would agree showgirl, 32HH. Some bras are higher than others under the arms - Panache are particularly tall, I think Curvy Kate are lower, Bravissimo and freya somewhere in the moddle.

showtunesgirl · 03/03/2013 15:47

Yes I tried a Panache and had to return it as I found that it dug in at the sides on me because it was too high.

treaclesoda · 03/03/2013 15:52

Sorrel and Statistically I so want to do whatever I can to help your better bra campaigning. Just walking through M&S raises my blood pressure and makes me so angry. Its time to fight back! I hate that all my adult life I've been made to feel like a freak (32GG here). I couldn't begin to tell you the bad experiences I have had over the years. I'm in my late 30s now, and its only recently that I can even start to see the funny side of it and get angry. When I was a teenager and went bra shopping, I used to come home and cry for days and refuse to leave the house. I vividly remember as a teenager going to a large independent lingerie shop that prided itself on fitting people correctly. And in fairness to them, they did. Its just a shame that the middle aged lady with the tape measure called all her younger colleagues into the cubicle to look at me as an example of something they would hardly ever see. And then tutted at me, as if I had specifically come into the shop to make her life difficult, and said 'well you can hardly expect to get a good fitting bra when you're that size!' as if I had grown my boobs just to spite her.

I don't want other young women feeling the way I was made to feel. I'm angry now, and I want to help!

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/03/2013 16:01

treaclesoda I really recognise that feeling - if I didn't know she was talking crap the fitter yesterday would have really got to me. Telling me I couldn't have a bra that was any smaller in the back because of my "bad overspill" made me want to cry. She even prodded it a little Angry

Any and ALL help is needed and appreciated - the responses from M&S stink of brush off. They might as well pat us on the head and say "there there dear"

I take it you have seen the FB/Twitter/Blog stuff?

treaclesoda · 03/03/2013 16:06

I have seen the blog, but not FB. Had a look at Twitter, and I'm on Twitter myself, but tbh I have only ever tweeted one tweet, once, to see if I could. I can't quite work out how it works. But I'm willing to learn, if it will help our collective cause Grin

treaclesoda · 03/03/2013 16:06

Am on FB too. Is there a FB page?

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/03/2013 16:07

There is a FB page which is still in it's infancy and definitely needs some help and coverage...www.facebook.com/TheBetterBraCampaign

treaclesoda · 03/03/2013 16:21

I am spreading the word!

bbpants · 03/03/2013 16:24

OK - although huge, I'm not as big as I used to be, so need new bras. I'm 39 underboob, and 47 over - a 38G, would that be?

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/03/2013 16:46

Yup, spot on bbpants! you may also want to try out a smaller back size too - sometime ladies who are a little squishy around the torso (not trying to be rude!) need to wear a back size smaller than they actually measure to get adequate support. So don't be scared to try a 36 but go up 1-2 cups if you do.

bbpants · 03/03/2013 16:56

Brilliant! And 'squishy' doesn't adequately describe it!

FierceBadIggi · 03/03/2013 17:40

Was in m&s earlier today. Did not realise they literally don't stock anything in a J cup! Was feeling tempted toward something closer to my usual size, but will not give in!

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/03/2013 17:59

I caught a look at the fitting sheet at M&S - they write down what they fit/sell. The sheet was full and not a single woman fitted in anything less than a 34. Hmm
