Time for a new bra thread

I am officially a mad bra lady. I staged an intervention today in M&S in an attempt to stop a young lady buying a 36B. She was with her mum who told me her daughter was a size 12 and that's why they'd picked up a 36. I advised her to try a 30! I am now feeling a mixture of shame and pride.

I haven't done this with bras in a shop yet but you do go a bit evangelical once you're in the right size, don't you :o I'm on a bit of a mad quest to get all my friends in the right sizes. I do think my local pet shop think I'm the mad rodent lady though, I keep accosting their customers and telling them they can't put syrian hamsters in cages the size of shoeboxes, even if they are pink shoeboxes with decorated tunnels.

I have a bra question - how do you tell online which bras have moulded cups? I don't like the ones that are just lace or whatever, they make me look weird and pointy and let's not talk about what happens when I get cold. In shops obviously you can see but it's often hard to tell online and the description doesn't always say. Does anywhere do a particularly good range of them?

Moulded cups, proper moulded ones, are generally seamless. You don't really get seamless bras which aren't also moulded (or not often anyway)

Bras which have seams will normally say if they are padded.

What size are you after Naoko?

Naoko - if you want roundness rather than pointy-ness, then try Bravissimos balcony styles, or Cleo. I am amazed at my now round and not-pointy-at-all boobs

I really tried today in debenhams with my bra but just could not get rid of the bulges over the bra at the back. I stuck w itch 34 dd/e as the 32ff / g was the biggest they had.

I an 31.5 under and 37/38 (i forget which and my tape is wet from boiler blowing up) over

It sounds like you probably need more cup space. the cup is much harder to get by measurement, it's only ever a guideline. Also, what brand were the bras you tried? IME the Debs Gorgeous range comes up very small in the back

I've tried and tried but I can't do the tight band thing, the tightness and itching makes me want to scream and cry I always end up in crop tops.

I get the fitting theory, and the bras look fine on, I just can't wear them.

Are there any bras which have extra wide soft bands at the back (and maybe under the cups) so that the support is in the right place (ie around the ribcage), but it doesn't have to be excruciatingly tight? As few seams, labels and hooks as possible would be good too. Oh dear, I've just described a crop top, haven't I

It was the gorgeous range as I went to the one in Middlesbrough that doesn't have a vey big range. I tried a couple of Freya too but they didn't have a very good selection of cup sizes.

The 34 on the middle fastening is still lots better than my old ones however

I would suggest some online ordering. given the bras you are currently wearing I suspect you need a slightly bigger cup than you measure - so on a 32 I would say try an F/FF and maybe G, but in brands other than Gorgeous. They do some lovely things but it probably makes sense to work out what a good bra is for you first and then try to work out what you need in Debs. Freya are quite stretchy backed, as are Curvy Kate.

Can anyone advise on sports bras please? I'm 32F but I've read that you need to size up for sports bras. Does anyone know, is that in the back size or the cup?

I would generally go up in the back, but stick to my usual "letter". The freya underwired sports bra is great, or this Shock Absorber

Hrm, I guess that I mean padded rather than moulded then, I'm not so bothered about seams, I just mean the ones that are boob shaped even when you're not wearing them if you see what I mean - I always thought 'padded' meant it's meant to make you look bigger. Clearly not! Statistically - I'm (usually, depending on brand/style) a 30G.

Moulded are great under tight tops etc, where you want the bra to be as subtle as possible. No seams, no visible nips etc. Padded still block nips, and do make you look bigger, but are softer than moulded and contour a bit better.
