Time for a new bra thread

I am officially a mad bra lady. I staged an intervention today in M&S in an attempt to stop a young lady buying a 36B. She was with her mum who told me her daughter was a size 12 and that's why they'd picked up a 36. I advised her to try a 30! I am now feeling a mixture of shame and pride.

They were like this Shock Confused

I'm 99% sure I have returned bras to them and just printed off the label from their website.

Sorrel, considering going over to the darkside and trying some Cleo and Masquerades again given the major let down of Freya...the site linked to earlier has some bargains

JeffFaFa · 23/02/2013 15:08

thank you both im just gonna print it off and send it back that way sure it will be fine then get on with ordering some more

SorrelForbes · 23/02/2013 16:11

I'd like to try some more Cleos. I'm trying to work out which ones are the same shape as the Juna. I've never tried a Masquerade.

Currently browsing the Gs and GGs on the Crazy Clearance site. I quite like this but there ar eno matching knickers in my size.

This looks nice but I'm always wary of anything with no padding.

I might try / Slate,size:30G this Masquerade. Any advice on fit? No matching knickers though.

I'm on "mycurvesandme" which has a few at half price and some very reduced masquerades too. The only thing putting me off the Cleos is that I normally need 3 clips in the back, and most websites suggest they stick at 2.

I think the rhiannon is the same as the Juna.

I have tried Mimi Holliday before, but found them all style no substance in bigger cups unfortunately.

Limelight · 23/02/2013 16:46

Oh I so need this thread! Another DC, bfing, and some weight loss means that I can't work out what I am any more!

Pre-DC I thought I was a 40C. I was properly measured after BFing DS and was a 38DD. Post DD and an ongoing diet thingie, these bras don't feel right. The back is probably too big I think and if I'm honest, I'm having to 'scoop' my poor knackered boobs into the cups which I think are a bit roomy.

So thanks to the helpful guide above Grin, I've done my measurements. I think my back is 36 and the measurement over the bust is 43. But that's with one of my current bras on so will that be wrong?

And does that mean I should be trying on a 36E?

Thanks in advance for your help!

SorrelForbes · 23/02/2013 16:47

Another website to peruse!

OK, I like this, this, this and this but I'm wondering whether to order them in a 30GG. I'm noticing that I'm getting a bit of overspill in most of my 30G bras (apart from my EMs and Cleo Jun). I definitely haven't put on any weight so will have to attribute it to regular scooping!

OP posts:
SorrelForbes · 23/02/2013 16:53

Limelight It sounds like you need to try a 36 back. The cup is harder to work out but start with a 36F. Try taking the second measurement without a bra and leaning forward so that your boobs hang towards the floor (tis a good look!)

Limelight · 23/02/2013 17:02

Thanks Sorrel. I'll do that. I fear they may reach my knees but all in a good cause...

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/02/2013 17:11

Sorrel, I have had the Hestia in gream before and I would say the 30GG may be better, I seem to remember those being a wee bit neat.

I've just ordered this in a 30h this in a 32h as reviews say small backed and this in a 30hh

The delphi may be too small in the cup but i have the basque version in a 32GG in last seasons colour and the cup is good

SorrelForbes · 23/02/2013 17:16

Grin that is the case for many of us on these bra threads!

OK, I'm ordering the Masquerade Delphi in a 30GG and the Cleo Meg in a 30G (same size as my Juna so here's hoping). Not bothering with the Delphi pants though. They're not very attractive.

Giving that Freya have failed me miserably it is time for some serious new brand experimenting! Much to DH's disgust ..."Can you not just order one..." erm, no. :)

SorrelForbes · 23/02/2013 17:43

I hate ordering just one bra. I can't cope with the disappointment if it doesn't fit (which is quite often) of not having a lovely new bra to wear.

I'll be really interested to see how you get on with EM.

I have a feeling I'm going to like Masquerade. My boobs seem to have expensive tastes (Fauve, R&P etc).

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 23/02/2013 17:46

Yup, ditto

I've emailed EM about sizes, as everything I want looks like it would be special order. ALthough they do have a PL toffik in a 30h and a PL black and PL Lilia in a 30J in stock so I may try those.

notjustamummythankyou · 23/02/2013 17:53

Well, I'm back from my mammoth shopping expedition, and you lovely bra gurus have done it again.

Just to recap, I have been through two pregnancies and two lots of bf in the last three years, and my boobs have been in size 34B, 36C, 34D, 34F .... you name it!

I have now got two Fantasie bras in a size 32E, and a Freya one in a 30F. And wow. I mean, truly wow. My boobs are perkier than they have been in years!

I was a bit Confused when I saw that the majority of bras didn't have any padding but, tbh, I seem to have better uplift and shape in these than any I've had with padding.

So, here's a big fat for you and some Thanks.

I'm delighted, me.

Grin
SorrelForbes · 23/02/2013 17:57

Great news! It's having a smaller band that sorts out the uplift/support issues. Did your sister go with you? I managed to get my DSis to Bravissimo in Decembe. She is a tall, slim size 8 and was wearing a 34B. She's now in a 28F!

OP posts:
NorthernNumpty · 23/02/2013 17:58

R&P told me I was a 30E a couple of years ago, the bra I bought from them was fantastic but could not get a 30E on the high st to fit so wore 32E and 32DD for a while, post DS I am slightly bigger (size 12 sometimes 14) and am wearing a 34D but it doesn't feel right.

Measurements are 31 under (30.5 if really tight) and 40 over if I do the 90 degree thing 38 if not.

Should I be trying 32's again in a bigger cup size. M&S measurements have me at a 36!

I love MN and you bra ladies.

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/02/2013 17:59

That's great news! I think sometimes padding can almost hide poor support/fit. In a good bra, you can get amazing uplift without it.

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/02/2013 18:00

NorthernNumpty, I would say a 30 is more likely your correct size. Try a 30 in a FF, G and GG.

NorthernNumpty · 23/02/2013 18:01

Wow, thanks Statistically!

And I scoop the back fat forwards right??!!

notjustamummythankyou · 23/02/2013 18:05

SC - no, my sister couldn't come with me unfortunately. She's measured herself as 28.5" underneath and 37" on top. So - 28G?? Bigger???

She's currently wearing a 32DD but it's massive around her back, and she says she spilling out so it's obviously too small in the cup.

I didn't see many bras with a 28 band (apart from a couple of Curvy Kate's) - where is the best place for her to go? Bravissimo?

Incidentally, I went to Fenwicks, Debenhams and a local independent department store today. Both Fenwicks and the independent store started at a D-cup it seemed, so at least they seem to be bucking the M&S way.

AnyFucker · 23/02/2013 18:08

I ordered the Cleo bra featured in this fab blog here

It's going back. Didn't work for me at all. It did fit, but the style was all wrong. I also thought it was a bit cheaply made, which didn't seem to make sense after reading these threads. But hey-ho. Free postage and delivery, can't go wrong.

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/02/2013 18:09

Yup, scoop with vigour!!

Notjust, I would start her at a 28G yes. Bravissimo are good for trying on 28s as they generally have them in store. Their own brand, Panache, Cleo by Panache, Curvy Kate and Freya all have lots of 28s, and there are a few others too

AnyFucker · 23/02/2013 18:10

If anybody with a relatively smaller cup wants an uplift balcony bra that really works and makes you feel very securely scaffolded but looks pretty, I can recommend an M+S one I bought a couple of weeks ago. Will link if anyone asks.

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/02/2013 18:11

Boooo AF. Getting a new bra that doesn't fit is sooo disappointing. I have several here which are going back.
