I hope that someone might help with mine... how on earth does one pronounce Space NK please? I was going to ask in the shop, but the man in the blue eyeshadow is too scary Blush

Hmm - lasering. You might be right.

MadameOvary · 31/01/2013 13:53

Those with hair+sleep issues: try a silk pillowcase. Bloody marvellous.

Mockingcurl · 31/01/2013 17:25

How do people keep their lipstick on longer than five minutes? I have tried all the lip brush, blotting and powder tips. None of them work.

mrspolkadotty · 31/01/2013 17:35

How do you get eyeliner to stay put and not descend into 'panda' territory? Mine seems to end up everywhere within a couple of hours! x

ggirl · 31/01/2013 17:37

MadameOvary I tried a silk pilowcase , didn't work at all , in fact made my head sweaty .
Haven't got long enough hair to tie up.

I have toyed with the idea of a hairnet >

tak1ngchances · 31/01/2013 17:48

I have no armpit hair. It just never grew.
However my bikini line is rampant and I just cannot steel myself to have it waxed. So I use a hedge trimmer thing to keep it neat

Beaverfeaver · 31/01/2013 18:23

I wash hair at night and when I wake up in the morning, if its a bit kinky , I turn my head upside down and blow dry it for no more than 10 seconds whilst brushing it through.
Then it looks 100% fresh (and has a bit more volume too!)

Beaverfeaver · 31/01/2013 18:24

Armpits:
I shave mine just once ir twice a week and use Nivea roll on deodorant for beautiful underarms and I think they do look better

Beaverfeaver · 31/01/2013 18:25

Eyeliner:
My kohl pencils always fall down within an hour or so, so I bought a felt tip pen eyeliner (borjois and no7 do good ones)

Now it stays put all day

WipsGlitter · 31/01/2013 18:32

Does that not give a really "hard" line beaverfever ?

FullLegBikiniandUnderArm · 31/01/2013 18:56

MrsPolkaDot - I struggled for years with the whole eyeliner/mascara panda thing and then a lovely make-up counter lady told me I was using the wrong eye makeup remover. It was an oil based one (either the Clinique or Lancôme one that you have to shake to mix). I was using it every night and the next day the eye makeup basically just slid off my eyes. Also Estée Lauder double wear eyeliner is great for staying all day.

BerryBlast · 31/01/2013 21:08

How do you sharpen a retractable eyeliner? the type in plastic casing with just the waxy eyeliner poking out --- it's driving me mad (or madder than normal Smile)

jackstini · 31/01/2013 21:23

mockingcurl - lipcote - old but good!

ggirl · 31/01/2013 21:55

BerryBlast try pulling off the other end off the eyepencil..sometimes there is a teeny tiny sharpener in there. I know I was surprised!!

QuinnFabray · 31/01/2013 22:19

Why do I have coarse black body hair, and lots of it? Why is it on my face too, even more so now I'm getting older? Why do I have crap thin, lank greasy hair? Why is my skin an oil slick, clogged, covered in broken red veins, and yet at the same time ageing rapidly? I scrub up okay, but it takes SO much more effort than nearly every other woman I know. Why? Why? It's not fair!!These are my beauty mysteries.

QuinnFabray · 31/01/2013 22:21

Oh, and whereabouts in Boots does one find Lipcote please?

AmandaPayne · 31/01/2013 22:55

I have abandoned eyeliner. Instead I use a MAC eyeliner brush and the dark eyeshadow you always get a in any palette. Damp brush, dip, line. I am totally cack (sp?) handed but tis easy and stays all day.

My question is why have I got old lady hands at 35 and what can I do (which is dirt cheap and compatible with toddlers. Possibly answering my own first question there).

libertychick · 31/01/2013 23:54

Absy thanks for the nail tip - I will give it a go.
Quinn this is great for staying on top of facial hair.

KristinaM · 01/02/2013 00:24

Do women who are not sex workers get their bits waxed? It sounds painful, expensive and embarrassing and I can't work out why you would do it .

Absy · 01/02/2013 07:21

because otherwise I get pubes going halfway down my thigh, which is not pleasant and not a good look. Shaving leads to ingrown hairs, and lasts about two minutes. Epiliating - JUST NO. And when you wax, the hair thins out - there are patches on my legs where the hair has stopped growing back.

But thanks for such a non-judgmental question KristinaM, you sound like such a charming individual.

KristinaM · 01/02/2013 07:59

Ahem I think you are missing the point of the thread, which was meant , i think, to be a lighthearted one .can I remind you of the title " what are you too afraid to ask"?

Absy · 01/02/2013 08:13

Yes, because implying that only sex workers would wax is very light hearted

KristinaM · 01/02/2013 08:29

No, I can understand why sex workers do wax. It's for their job.and I can understand why women who have hairy thighs and bikini line would wax them, as it would show over swimwear . I still don't know what women who don't have to show their bits choose to have them waxed or plucked. I wasn't saying they should or shouldn't , I was just asking why. The person who has read judgement into the question is you. It seems to me that YOU are the one who is judging sex workers and finds even a mention of them offensive .

I don't know if its a religious requirement, a cultural thing or a fashion thing . I was just asking as I always wonder when I read thread s about it on mumsnet and I don't know anyone in RL who does it.

AlwaysSleepingBeauty · 01/02/2013 08:37

QuinnFabray I think the Lipcote is usually with the false eyelashes and tweezers and things!

OP posts:
Absy · 01/02/2013 08:42

In your post, you just asked why women who were not sex workers wax - you didn't mention anyone else. It implied that you thought the only people who have a justifiable reason to wax are sex workers. But you have now said that there are a myriad of reasons why women might wax.

Okay, maybe i'm being oversensitive because pretty much every thread that mentions bikini waxing on MN leads to some person coming on and mentioning "brain washing", "wannabe pornstars" and letting the sisterhood down etc. etc. and it gets very tiring.
