Boden sale roundup thread - what was a star buy and what will they have to give away?

I got my (final- honest) parcel today and thought it would be fun to summarise (I lead a very uneventful life!)

Hits:

Navy Padded coat for dd3 - BRILLIANT. Looks lovely one and so soft and warm

Raindy Day mac for me - I got the charcoal patterned one and it's beautiful. Feels great and am in love with the pattern which is less aggressive in the flesh than on screen. For £35 - bargain

Cord Placket dress in petrol - love, love, love this - beautifully lined and flattering

Emma tunic dress - I now have three Blush

Miss:

Casual jersey dress - it's cheap for a reason. Nice and warm but so dull, so, so dull

Drapey jersey top - also yawn

Lottie tunic - the trim at the top came too low down on my fairly short self so cut bust in two - not a good look.

Anybody else?

After reading that someone else sent back their merino cardigan, 3 arrived for me and they were fine. Don't love them but they were pretty close to what I wanted and for 20 quid each, I'm happy!

Dancergirl - oh pants. I saw the Emma tunic in red in 12R this morning. Got involved in other things, forgot about it, read this, went back online. Gone.

That's my dress, that is!

Am sending back ponte blazer.
A bit too shrunken and unflattering over hips, shame as great for spring and £20.
I suppose that is why they are £20

Sorry, notjustamummy, if I return it I will let you know. Keep checking on the site though, they will probably still get returns.

I got a tweed jacket in the sale (the fitted one) in brown melange. I'm a busty/curvy 14/16 and it is a very flattering fit. Really warm too - great buy at around £70.

Georgina- agree re the blazer, would be ok if you are about 4'10 otherwise no good, sent mine back.
On the basis of this thread have ordered 2 merino cardigans earlier and went down a size.
My Emma tunic has now been sent out with the other stuff, back to waiting for spotty parcels again!

I've ordered 3 merino cardigans this afternoon! Not sure if the drop shoulders will make me look bulky though so we'll see!

Well as promised I got the Emma in grey, am wearing at this moment actually!
For me it's very much more a dress than a tunic though, am very glad i didn't get a L as it would have felt frumpier i think.
And yes bigger norks would look great but i have my secret weapen M&S gain 2 sizes bra and it looks good (enough)!
Am wearing with fitted levis denim jacket, thick tights and biker boots.

The stripy breton am still not sure about, good fit but it's the funny arms...

Mini boden cord trousers in flowery design come up big but lovely and go great with the broccoli top! DD2 loved it.

So all in all, pretty pleased with my haul! Grin

I am wearing the grey Emma too Grin As I'm a 22 you only get the L length which on 5ft 3 me is on the knee and a dress not a tunic. Somebody was asking about length I think?

Part of my order has arrived, it's the Emma which fits so it looks like I may be sending back the other size Emma when it gets here!

OK, my sale order is FINALLY here and I've had a chance to try everything on!
Big surprise is the Twist Front Jersey Dress. Have to admit to only ordering this because it was so cheap reduced to £23 (from £79). But it looks lovely on, and is definitely a keeper. (I got the purple 'fig marigold' version).

Misses:
The Iona boiled wool coat: I really, really wanted to love this, but 'tis not to be. Looks kind of OK belted, but otherwise pretty awful. Material is quite thin, doesn't hang nicely, not suree about the raw edges... So disappointing!

The Velvet Circle Skirt: Ordered this in black thinking it would be a good winter party staple. But doesn't look slim and stylish on me (like it does on the model). Lots and lots of thick bulky fabric, and a very boxy shape, at least on me. Definite return.

The Stitch Detail Mini: This is a lovely skirt, nice fabric, well made... but shape just doesn't do anything for me. Again there seems to be too much fabric. Pity because it's a nice well-made skirt.
Northern Lurker: if you're still tempted, it really isn't a 'mini' mini. I ordered the 'L' and it just grazes my knees. Admittedly I have quite short legs, but it certainly isn't a thigh skimmer!

Ooh I can post on this now.

Everyday A-line skirt in black moleskin - went back, just too boring, even for me. I thought it might have a funky feel but it was just meh meh meh.

Glamour tweed skirt - amazing fabric, sadly shape not right, made my legs look fat. So what I need is a nice A-line skirt in the glamour tweed fabric. I am hoping to get an extra-large size if it turns up in clearance, and alter it.

Straight jeans - too tight around my knees, sent back and got some from gap which are a better fit.

On the plus side - I got two chunky cardigans, the dark grey and the orange, and they are fab and keeping both. Lovely and soft, really long sleeves, warm, neat shape.

Question for you: I would like to buy a top for a friend of mine for her birthday. She is apple shaped, big boobs and quite a tum at the moment, but I'd love to get her something really flattering.

She never spends any money on herself, and my aim is to get her something she could put on and feel good, but not really going out stuff as such, more smart everyday-ish.

Anything in the sale you could recommend?

NorthernLurker · 08/01/2013 19:27

Do you know what size she is? If you know that you can sort available stuff by size and save yourself a lot of hunting.
