Boden sale roundup thread - what was a star buy and what will they have to give away?

I got my (final- honest) parcel today and thought it would be fun to summarise (I lead a very uneventful life!)

Hits:

Navy Padded coat for dd3 - BRILLIANT. Looks lovely one and so soft and warm

Raindy Day mac for me - I got the charcoal patterned one and it's beautiful. Feels great and am in love with the pattern which is less aggressive in the flesh than on screen. For £35 - bargain

Cord Placket dress in petrol - love, love, love this - beautifully lined and flattering

Emma tunic dress - I now have three Blush

Miss:

Casual jersey dress - it's cheap for a reason. Nice and warm but so dull, so, so dull

Drapey jersey top - also yawn

Lottie tunic - the trim at the top came too low down on my fairly short self so cut bust in two - not a good look.

Anybody else?

First ever Boden purchase Grin
Ordered the Emma dress and the casual belted dress
Am prepared they won't fit... Are their sizes true or generous?

is the rainy day mac that good?

I've often looked at it but never really considered it as it was always too expensive

are the patterns gaudy?

I'm looking at the olive one as I'm fair haired and skinned

thanks

Nope, no announcement, they just reappear in the product availability 'matrix thing'.
If you're really keen keep the product page open and refresh regularly. Popular items only stay back in stock very briefly!

At full price or even with 20% off I would not say that the Rainy day macs are really worth it. I wouldn't have normally looked at the olive flowered one but at £35 it is very good value and I do like the pattern now I've got it. I think it will be nice for early spring if its a bit damp and chilly. In fact I've got mine on now to pop to the shops.

Hope I don't bump into loads of other mumsnetters all wearing the same mac Smile

thanks

have ordered it

(as well as the seam detail skinny cargos!)

Sure if I dont like it, I can return it

DH will hate the pattern! He'll say its mumsy! Pity the fawn was never as well reduced.

The pattern definately isn't mumsy. I think it's really good value for £35. I wouldn't pay full price.

Captain - keep looking for dribbling returns Grin

Slalom - that's what I thought would happen with the colour blocks!

Brighthair - for children I always size up but for adults I think the sizing is pretty good. If you read the reviews for an individual item you can quickly see what's going on though - people will say size up or down which is helpful.

northern, slalom, I tried colour block tunic before sale and agree material weird - cheap and very creased-looking - and blocks didn't work, on my large, tall hourglass figure anyway! A dud, IMO.

Poly - feel very guilty that you didn't try the Lottie because of me Blush

Having said that Miranda Hart was wearing the navy with spots one in the first episode of her new series and I didn't think it looked outstanding on her either and she's about a foot taller than me!

Report
polyhymnia · 04/01/2013 11:41

Don't worry - it's still there in my size and I might yet try it. Have been just hanging on to see if it's going to be further reduced.

Am I right that your main dislike with the berry, which was the colour I fancied, was that the ribbon trim came too low? If so, suppose that might not be so true on me as I'm tall and long-bodied.

polyhymnia · 04/01/2013 11:44

PS I too saw a clip (can't stand her actual show) of Miranda H. in that tunic in blue, and I actually thought it looked better than expected. I'm about 2-3 inches shorter than her. Perhaps my expectations of the tunic were low, though!!

Yes that's right - was on the bust not above it.

Report
polyhymnia · 04/01/2013 11:51

Thanks. Was the trim itself nice, or nothing special?

Report
NorthernLurker · 04/01/2013 11:54

It was pretty but it looked very easy to pull the ribbons out of shape. Did I mention it's dry clean only?

Report
polyhymnia · 04/01/2013 12:14

Yes. I'm prepared to put up with that for really special items, but not things for everyday wear.

Boden don't 'announce' they have returned items back in stock, you need to keep checking and pounce when you see something you've been stalking.

I have been stalking the chunky leather boots in the conker. They have just come back in stock in a 5 and I pounced!

Hope they are as lovely as they look!

Have the lottie tunic in navy and it washed fine on the machine handwash cycle.
Want another tunic but the placket cord one is out of stock in my size so am waiting to see if the lottie in one of the other colours gets reduced further.
May try an Emma after the comments on here about it suiting boobage.

FIFIBEBE · 04/01/2013 16:49

If you want an Emma be quick. Stock is changing dramatically as I read this thread. Managed to get a charcoal one, phew.

Report
mamijacacalys · 04/01/2013 17:14

Yes FIFI, had the blue print Emma in my basket then it went out of stock within about a minute!
Never mind, got the blue crossover knit dress instead and the placket cord tunic which had come back into stock.

Report
NorthernLurker · 04/01/2013 17:19

The navy lottie is handwash ok. It's the other two that are dry clean. Because of the trim rather than the wool I suspect.

I've been looking at the rainy day mac thanks to this thread. Does it come up big or pretty much true to size? I am proably a 16 at the moment but am hoping to lose weight to get back into a 14. The 16 is out of stock and I wonder if the 14 will fit me.

Report
QuiteOldGal · 04/01/2013 19:44

Cloutiedumpling I would say it was pretty much true to size, the sleeves are on the long side. I am a fairly tall size 14 and size 14 fitted me perfectly, Probably similar to a M&S or Next 14.

Bit concerned I haven't had confirmation email Sad
