Will this fit the bill. Dull but seasonal?

BD: Happy Birthday for tomorrow! My take on the b-day cake is: if you make your own cake, at least you get one you like. Grin

MrsS: brilliant news about the interview. Go get that job, missus. Grin

On size and appearance matters: I am 5' 2 and three-quarters. But my mother mis-measured me when I was a teen, so I thought I was 5' 1 and a half until about a year ago. Unless I grew in my 20s and never noticed. Hmm I have weighed a fairly constant 9st 3lbs for the last 17 years, except when pregnant or getting divorced. :) I dipped down to 8st 12 after a fluey bug in the autumn and looked grim. Am happy the Christmas poundage appears to have settled on my bust. Which was shrivelled and is now less so.
I have big hubba-bubba thighs, a large arse, not much waist to speak of and a lot of muscle. And I have come to be entirely accepting of these things and to be happy with them. Everything works, more or less, and I fit into size 10 or 12 and can run up hills and punch above my weight. Grin What I find rather more difficult to accept is the way my face is melting. And my neck would make a turkey's look smooth and taut. That is, quite frankly, a bummer. However, as this last is a result of a) genetic inheritance and b) the excessive skinny/obese cycling of my youth, I feel I should work on being philosophical about it. After all, I am very nearly 48. And proud of it. So there. And after a mere 8 weeks of semi-permanent hair colour, I am once again back on the no-dye wagon. Saw the Christmas pics and thought that I liked my old salt 'n' pepper better.

Stropperella · 13/01/2013 20:43

Ruby, my dd has also been (relatively speaking, at least) fairly delightful for the last couple of weeks. However, in her case, I suspect that this is either partly or wholly because I have finally to agreed that she may have a hamster. Provided she buys the cage and all accoutrements, keeps it on a very high shelf in her room and takes and any and all consequences that having a rodent in residence may have on the rodent-exterminating dog. Hmm

bigTillyMint · 13/01/2013 21:24

Friday 9 - Saturday 7

Does this mean Firday wins? Grin

Strops, Go girl with the salt 'n' pepper!

Just 2 more years and I can book SAGA holidays...
... without the family Grin

Stropperella · 13/01/2013 21:44

BTM, SAGA do very good deals on car insurance. Grin

Stropperella · 13/01/2013 21:59

Just apropos of yummy, healthy food: I came back from visiting my friend in Suffolk inspired to make more effort with family food and overcome my lazy-arse attitude to cooking. This week I have managed to produce egg-fried rice, chunky veg soup, chicken and mushroom pie and even lentil, watercress and roasted parsnip salad. With home-baked rolls. Even better, the dcs ate all of this and were most appreciative. I can recommend the Hugh Fearnley-Wittertits veg book. V. good. Yum.

And to show that I am truly a reformed character: today I made double fudge cupcakes. Oh yes. There are none left.

Happy Birthday for tomorrow, BD. Doing anything special?

I also made a cake today, trying to find a use for a solitary bramley and a punnet of past-it blueberries I uncovered at the back of the fridge. I made a very passable apple and blueberry cake using my new food mixer (no, not a flash Kitchenaid; a cheap, cheerful and very adequate alternative from Amazon. If I had £400 to spare I'd spend it on shoesWink ).

Blackduck · 14/01/2013 06:14

Many thanks for the birthday wishes! I to am one year nearer the Saga holidays... (Kill me now)
Unfortunately CV I am working. I generally make it a rule never to work on my Birthday but needs must this year, I suspect I will spend the day in a foul mood :)
Had birthday dinner on Saturday and dp is late tonight.

However, we have snow so no doubt that will be a nice reminder for my mum of the year I was born.
Cake, btw, was good - thank you Sam Stern

bigTillyMint · 14/01/2013 06:52

Happy Birthday BD - fancy having snow for it!Grin

CV, is it a Kenwood? I

beachyhead · 14/01/2013 08:52

Happy birthday BD....talking of leftover recipes, after Christmas we had two large pots of Greek yogurt, no idea why I thought that would be good Christmas fare!!

So I mixed it with a small tin of condensed milk and two punnets of strawberries, and froze it..not my recipe, from tinternet, but very popular in my house and different varieties have been requested Grin

Are we set for the Friday? Wouldn't want to miss the travelodge bargains!

I have the week from hell at work this week, four days instead of two...complete with visitations from US senior management..still maybe the snow will cheer them up, Goode Olde London Town looking pretty and all...

CointreauVersial · 14/01/2013 18:26

No, BTM, not even a Kenwood.

Even cheaper. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Andrew-James-Electric-Stunning-Cookbook/dp/B006VSAPA0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1358187863&sr=8-3 This. It mixes, what can I say? I'm not a regular baker, so I really don't care if my kids won't get to inherit it.

CointreauVersial · 14/01/2013 18:27

Hmm, don't think I can do linkies on my tab.....

CointreauVersial · 14/01/2013 18:27

Nope.Grin Grin

bigTillyMint · 14/01/2013 19:42

Think I found it! It looks quite funky - which colour?

So are we nailing the Friday 8th Feb as our next Crepeys meet-up? (I am getting pestered for dates for RL stuff...)

MrsSchadenfreude · 14/01/2013 21:23

SAGA = Sex And Games for the Aged or Sexual Advances Generally Accepted (I used to work with someone who used to be a rep with Saga).

I have been asked to help with the job ad for my job. I wrote one a while back (as I was asked to), and apparently they don't think they'll manage to get anyone in to tie in with my leaving date of next summer. Well that's a fucking pity, isn't it? Should have advertised the job five months ago when I gave you the first draft. AIBU to tell them to fuck the fuck off to the far end of fuck if/when they ask me to a) redraft the job ad and b) extend for a few months in the job. The job I asked to extend in and they wouldn't let me, this is. I don't fucking think so! AngryGrin

motherinferior · 14/01/2013 21:41

Happy Birthday BD!

MrsS, why don't you tell them to fuck off Grin?

I would rather like to work on the Saga mag. Not least because I am, I am pretty sure, the oldest person on this thread Shock
