shoeprincess2 that is so kind of you. Will be in touch when sample arrives and will find something in exchange for you also

pocketandsweet there are a few violet fans on here, including me. I'm keen on Lipstick Rose by Malle at present - violets and roses

Dona linked to a good violet page which I can't find but there is lots in the comments on this page. Lots

Tom Ford has a few violets - Black Violet and Violet Blonde.
If you search for violet on www.basenotes.com, a really good perfume forum you will hit paydirt!

Let me know what you come up with!

mignonette · 15/11/2012 17:07

Guerlain's make up is scented with Violet, Pocket especially their 'Les Meteorites' face powder/blush pearls. They are just delicious and old-time alluring to apply and wear.

kiwigirl42 · 15/11/2012 17:12

I've just realised that its Yardley I was thinking of as being a bit bleuggh, not Penhaglion, which I've never smelled!.
I seem to have thought they were one and the same!

BOFingSanta · 15/11/2012 17:14

I'm hearing good things about the new Lyn Harris collection for good old M&S, especially La Poudrée and La Rose. I'm going to go and have a sniff tomorrow. She's a respected perfumier, and uses quality ingredients. The bottles look very nice too. For £25 for 50ml, it's very reasonable indeed.

kiwigirl42 · 15/11/2012 17:19

I don't think the new perfumes are in every M&S - it tells you on their site which shops have been upgraded. I'm keen to try a shop with these perfumes also!

pocketandsweet · 15/11/2012 17:21

MY irritating M& S doesn't seem to have them. AT least the two times I have dragged my three year old quickly around. I would very much like to hear what others think of them .

pocketandsweet · 15/11/2012 17:22

Report back those of you who have a decent M & S... I would like to know what the Eau de Cologne smells like as well ( which is apparently with the men's fragrances )

BOFingSanta · 15/11/2012 17:25

Here's one of the reviews- I shall report back myself as soon as I get a chance. Probably Monday, actually, as I've just remembered that dd2 has an inset day tomorrow, which is a bit of a pita, but hey ho.

shoeprincess2 · 15/11/2012 17:28

My M & S doesn't have them either. What few perfumes they do have are located in a pokey corner. They have Florentyna in every size imaginable, but precious little else!
kiwigirl- you're welcome, though I don't want anything in return, if you do decide you like Naughty Alice. Unless there is something you were planning on re-homing...

I've just found this website Venus in Ferns which seems to sell a nice mix of essential oils and perfume oils. I'm going to get some Almond and cherry perfume oil and some rose essential oil to make a bootleg Louve body lotion. Already have some vanilla so good to go. Just need to wait for payday Grin

I laughed when I saw they sold dewberry perfume oil. Blimmin' 'eck!
The amount of people who used to douse themselves in it. Worse than Poison!

BOFingSanta · 15/11/2012 17:36

I thought this looked interesting for my 16 year old daughter too- at that price, I'd buy the two and keep one for myself Grin

shoeprincess2 · 15/11/2012 17:36

I have come over all queasy. I remember those heady (literally) days when people showered in the stuff. Oh, and fuzzy peach. I can almost feel a headache coming on.

OP posts:
BOFingSanta · 15/11/2012 17:37

Oh Lawks, Dewberry! There's a blast from the past Grin.

ThatsNice · 15/11/2012 17:51

I remember those! Awful stuff. There was a blue one too supposed to smell of the ocean I think? That was pretty awful as well..

shoeprincess2 · 15/11/2012 17:56

Oceanus. Yuck

OP posts:
YouOldSlag · 15/11/2012 17:59

The Body Shop used to do some gorgeous affordable oils such as Japanese Musk, Mostly Musk and one called Annie that my Mum wore for years. I really miss those big glass jars but agree about Dewberry and Fuzzy Peach- it was bleedin everywhere!

ThatsNice · 15/11/2012 18:01

Oceanus! Yes, that's it..feels migraine coming on at the mere memory..

YouOldSlag · 15/11/2012 18:01

I can't bear aquatic notes in perfume, not cucumber and melon. Yuk!

YouOldSlag · 15/11/2012 18:02

*Nor cucumber and melon

BOFingSanta · 15/11/2012 18:05

I remember Tea Rose (my favourite back then), and Ananya. I can't think what it was like now, but I bet if I smelt it, I'd know it instantly.

coffeeinbed · 15/11/2012 18:10

Melon and aquatic shit notes make me want to cry.
I had a big Ocean basket once- present from my sister.
Would have thought she'd know better!

kiwigirl42 · 15/11/2012 18:41

the White Musk used to give me an instant headache. I used to really like their Activist aftershave on my long ago exP though. wonder if they still do that? It was orange and spices.

MamaGeekChic · 15/11/2012 18:42

New to the thread but I have read much of the previous one. I'm currently looking for a new perfume, I've worn coco mademoiselle for years but it's too popular and I want something a bit more individual. Nothing to sweet, I hate angel and ghost- both make me want to heave! I like unisex type scents and vetiver, fig, mint, violet (tried TF violet blonde but it's too powdery for me). I used to love the old armani mania but it was discontinued and I'm tempted by dipthyque vetyverio but not quite sure- any thoughts? Budget up to £100 for the right one.

BOFingSanta · 15/11/2012 18:46

Ghost is another one I love Grin

LtheWife · 15/11/2012 18:59

I always thought I bought fragrances quite randomly and not really known what I actually like. But I've just been going through a list of my favourites over the years and researching the individual notes and I've had a bit of a lightbulb moment. There seems to be a very common theme. They all open with citrus notes, develop into jasmin, magnolia and rose and have vanilla as a base note. That theme goes right back to my pre teens. As I've got older they've got a bit more complex as sandalwood, cedar wood and vetiver have crept into the base notes too.

Based on that are you knowledgable ladies able to offer any suggestions as to what I should try next? Most recent purchase was Acqua di Parma Magnolia Nobile if that's any help.
