Thank you DonaAna Smile I love reading your descriptions of fragrances! I read thd link to the ninfeo mio and have sourced a 1ml decant to sample. It sounds delicious Smile

I love the sound of Ninfeo Mio. Definitely one for my list.

Hi guys!

BOFingSanta don't get down about people's opinions about Angel - its one of the world's best selling perfumes so there are a LOT of people who love it, including me (I went through about 4 bottles in a row of it so don't wear it at present as have moved on but still appreciate it).
I think people only really mind when its sprayed on really heavily but that would go for any perfume.
I like original Poison but boy, can really remember people walking round in a purple, overwhelming cloud of it in the '80's which was horrible.

so wear it and enjoy it!

I've been looking at perfume oils on //www.etsy.com (great site, sort of handmade version of ebay)
They are really inexpensive and you can mix and match to make different fragrances. I'm going to get some and tinker with them

Oh dear, I've just ordered another load of samples. This is becoming as expensive as bra shopping Grin.

coffeeinbed · 14/11/2012 14:35

But it's so much easier than bra hunting! Grin
Mind you my current "back size down cup size up" mantra has been serving me well.
Thanks for that!

I've just tried a sample of Alien by Thierry Mugler. I ordered it online and it arrived today.

Very interesting, very strong, keeps changing

It's growing on me. I think I like it.

Sorrel it may be too late for you to back off - perfumes are quite addictive Wink

I caved in and bought a bottle of No. 19 EdP. I realized I cannot go to have a vacation without it. No 19 isn't the easiest perfume, as people often perceive the galbanum as unfriendly. But I love how the strict and tailored outer structure slowly reveals a full-blooded opulent heart. Wearing No. 19 feels like wearing a tailored suit with seamed stockings. The profumeria next door also has Seville a l'Aube - maybe I'll get that later.

YouOldSlag I have had a sample of Alien on my desk for weeks now - have been too afraid to try it Wink

Kiwi I have nothing against Angel and might get a small bottle of the EdT at some point. But I also like Poison and Amarige...

Youoldslag..have you tried cinnabar by Estée Lauder?
I also love obsession (buy ine get me free in Argos of all places ATM!)
I have asked for some cashmere by next for Xmas Blush it's cheap and smells nice and not too heavy for everyday wear.
I have worn opium in the past too.
I am nit overly find of floral perfumes (but love roses) and tend to stick to musk/powdery perfume.
Have you tried sun moon stars by lagerfeld?
That's also a nice one.

Badvocsanta · 14/11/2012 16:33

Doña ana - I wore amarige for ages in my early 20a...happy days :)

YouOldSlag · 14/11/2012 17:11

Badvoc- yes funnily enough I tried Cinnabar in the Perfume Shop yesterday. It was rank- it smelt like old gone off eau de cologne.

Yes, I like Obsession, but limit to one squirt or everybody faints.

I am thinking of trying Sun Moon Stars but Fragrantica tells me there are peachy notes in it and I am so off them! I am open to persuasion if you can convince me it's not too peachy?

DonaAna- Alien is v strong indeed but I like the amber in it. I find the fragrance a bit aggressive otherwise. I probably won't buy a whole bottle after this sample but I don't dislike it.

YouOldSlag I got an Alien Essence Absolue sample off ebay and really didn't like it - I was sure I would from the notes.

Report
YouOldSlag · 14/11/2012 17:33

kiwi- yes it's very in your face. I'll wear it round the house but I don't think I will unleash it on the public. I sought it out because of the amber notes.

Do you ladies mind me asking, has anyone ever done a (paid for) consultation at Roja Dove Haute Perfumerie in Harrods? It's £75 to help you find your perfect perfume.

I'm thinking of asking for a consultation for Christmas now that my MIL has hijacked Chanel No19. I can't have my children saying I smell like Granny again! I've wearing no19 since I was 15, so I'm feeling a bit precious about it...

Badvocsanta · 14/11/2012 17:42

I don't think it's too peachy at all...if anything I would describe it s powdery..
Have you ever tried mitsuko?

I had a wee nosy round the village shop today and found a bottle of the perfume I bought with my first ever wage, (£45 per week on yts scheme)
Rafinee...one sniff took me right back to 1996.

Badvoc- you're talking me round! I tried SMS in the 90s and liked it but don't trust my taste back then. I remember thinking at the time it smelt like that lovely Monsoon fragrance with the pointy hat on. I loved that. maybe I will re-love SMS. It's certainly affordable in my local Bodycare!

Report
Badvocsanta · 14/11/2012 18:32

I get lots of positive comments when I wear it :)
From both men and women.
Out of interest, did you think cinnabar was a bit...clove-y?

Report
YouOldSlag · 14/11/2012 18:36

Yes, clovey and um, like a perfume that's gone off a long time ago. I gave it a chance as some perfumes do smell like that at first spray, but two hours later, it still smelt wrong and bad. I was hoping to like it.

Now I'm grown up I want something with a bit of muscle instead of airy light florals. I am also restricted on budget and prefer a nice bottle I can use liberally.

PS YY to Rafinee! a drugstore classic.

Badvocsanta · 14/11/2012 18:38

SMS it is. It will be mine by the time the week is out! Thanks Badvoc!

Flybynight I don't live in the UK but a Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie consultation sounds lovely. Go for it! Silences by Jacomo might be worth a try if you love Chanel No. 19.

The free/budget options: submit a question here or play with this program. Many have found a trip to Les Senteurs also very useful.

If you want to enjoy the journey, you might just want to sample perfumes that are labeled "green" or have galbanum in them. (Surrender to Chance does some sample packs).

I am so cross that M & S are stocking Fragonard! Their guest soaps were a staple gift of mine from Paris! I'll have to find something else to bring people back now. Sad

I got a sample of Alien this week. It made me feel so sick I couldn't even look at the packaging again without retching. Another one that disagreed with me was Vera Wang Princess Night. Sickly sweet.

I'm really enjoying a Chanel one at the moment that's called Eau Tendre (or something like that...not home to check). It's soft without being overly sweet... I like most of their scents though so mo surprise.

I have a little miniature of 'Faconnable' by Fragonard that I had forgotten about. Will try it out tomorrow.

I love the scent of Nuxe 'Huile Prodigieuse'. If somebody can replicate that in a scent I would be one happy female.

coffeeinbed · 14/11/2012 20:09

Mignonette, they did.
Nuxe have brought it out as parfum.
