Hope you find your way back to us Dona!

Pickled cuffed pants are a great look on children, I agree, too cute.

shopafrolic · 28/01/2013 12:58

2 parcels from DHL mean Gracie and the red MiH's have arrived. Will report back after trying on while DS naps. Miss my DH already and he only flew yesterday...

hello all, I am a very very infrequent poster and was a one time lurker before my return to work took over my life! just a short post to say that someone once recommended hush to me on here (or it may have been from my lurking days...!) and I bought a few pieces in the sale... love them all, and I am worried I will never take them off, too comfortable. So, thank you! Now just need to work out how to wear the amazingly comfy, wine-coloured harem pants outside without my DH asking me if I've forgotten to change out of my PJ's....

shopafrolic · 28/01/2013 14:11

Right ladies. What am I not understanding about MiH sizing?? I bought a 31 (I am a 32 in 7FAM, 31 in James) and if anything they are a little too big. Should the Paris be tight to your legs and bum? Or a little looser? Also, any ideas whether they will shrink or stretch over time? They look good with a belt but I just want to be sure..... Any input gratefully received as if I send them back then the Gracie will probably go back too.......

OP posts:
MarshaBrady · 28/01/2013 14:31

I think you could go down a size. There's a few in other colours on there, not sure if they have the right one.

I do find they stretch.

Hi Mint!

shopafrolic · 28/01/2013 14:37

I can't find a 30 anywhere at the moment....Sad

AmberNectarine · 28/01/2013 15:27

mint funny you should say that, I'm wearing mine today with this, this and these. Quite a relaxed look for me. I also like them with pistols and cashmere v neck. I have visions of them being great in summer with rose gold sandals and a white tank.

libertychick · 28/01/2013 17:09

Dona totally understand if you don't feel this is a good place to be. I was really upset when the A&W thread vanished even though I was only a v occasional poster. I had decided recently to get more involved in this and other threads on S&B as I really enjoy them and wanted to be part of a good and funny vibe. Life is complicated enough - it's nice to have interests that are light hearted and your lifestyle sounds lovely and you have been incredibly generous in sharing your knowledge and time as have many others on this thread and on S&B generally.

Have you ever read Lucia van der Post's book 'Things I wish my Mother had told me?' She covers lots of topics but the best sections of the books are on fashion and clothes and she says that dressing well shows people you respect them and yourself and 'improves the gaiety of the nation'. I say we keep on being light hearted and gay (in the original Jane Austen sense of the word) and sod the begrudgers!

So today I'm on a happy shopping buzz! Went to TKMaxx and got a pair of 7FAM skinnys and a pair of coated charcoal skinny NYDJ's (which are just lush) for the grand sum of £79.98! To add to the buzz the 7FAMs are a size 30 - at October last year I was size 32. Then I spotted skinny grey velvet/cord style trousers in Monsoon (for £14!!!!) and as I was able to shimmy my bum into a size 10 I bought them too whistles and ignores credit card bill Smile

AwkwardSquad · 28/01/2013 18:11

Whoop, just grabbed a Toast boiled wool biker jacket in the tail end of the sale. Very pleased. Much more fitted than I normally go for and I think it will do me good!

shopafrolic · 28/01/2013 19:32

I LOVE that book Liberty. Couldn't agree more.

OP posts:
Mrsap · 28/01/2013 20:34

Ok. I have to ask. Shopafrolic, what colour is the gracie?? I am after one in blue or green.

Pray tell!

Always been a lurker on this thread and have enjoyed it v much.

Doña ana would be a shame to c u go but I can c why!

Sad really!

AlwaysSleepingBeauty · 28/01/2013 20:57

I've been lurking on this thread a little while, but thought I would chip in that I love that book too. I got it when I was about 17 and I think it genuinely taught me a lot about shopping and the way I enjoy fashion.

shopafrolic · 28/01/2013 21:13

The Gracie is red Mrsap - green had sold out on Outnet but it was half price. Need to think hard as although half price it is still expensive for me so need to be sure it'll work hard.

OP posts:
Mrsap · 28/01/2013 21:27

Thx shopafrolic. I did think about red or pink (still available on matches website) but green or blue would better with the rest of my wardrobe.

Annoying really, as I ummed and ahhed over it on the outnet in green. Decided in the middle of the night that I would get it over the weekend and then of course it was too late.

I am now thinking it wasn't meant to be and maybe I need a yellow bag instead so scouring the net.

Any suggestions welcome.

libertychick · 28/01/2013 22:03

What about this yellow bag Mrsap - cheap as chips and very jolly.

Hello to alwaysleepingbeauty and AwkwardSquad. Lucia VDP is great isn't she - some of the stuff in that book is totally barking such as the suggestion of buying someone a swan as a present and I loved her story about 'the very wise and sensible man' who gave his fiance her own £1m so she wouldn't feel she had to keep coming to him for money!

Marsha Fingers and toes crossed for the Dries.
Shop jeans sizing is a pain isn't it. I have been giving my purchases from earlier the 'does it still work at home review' and the 7FAM are keepers and the Monsoon trousers are actually fab but the NMDJ's are going back as I don't have the thighs for shiny fabric and the waist is too big and they generally feel like they will be baggy after an hour or two.

QueenBOObread · 28/01/2013 22:09

Another longtime lurker here who was devastated when A&W went and really hopes that Vogue doesn't go the same way.

Clothes can be frivolous but what's wrong with a bit of frivolity? I'm with Amber; I hate the sneering and the reverse snobbery. It's one of the reasons I don't post and I'm sure that it inhibits other lurkers.

And, for what it's worth Dona, you come across as one of the most well informed, literate and kind posters I have seen on here (or anywhere). I don't know anything about Mo but she's very troll-like in her goading and stirring; please don't think that her spiteful interpretation of what she reads is how your posts come across in any way, shape or form. I hope you stay.

Mrsap · 28/01/2013 22:12

Thx libertychick. I do like the shape of that bag but think I am looking for something in soft slouchy kind of leather.

Great colour though.

libertychick · 28/01/2013 22:18

Hello QueenBOObread I lurked for ages as I felt a bit inhibited as well and nervous of the possible reaction but I enjoy this thread so much - and I've become much more confident about my style and taste from the feedback people give. Do stay and others out there - delurk - even occasionally. Lots of views and opinions makes it much more fun. Smile

MarshaBrady · 28/01/2013 22:34

Need to catch up but lovely to see new names, hello! Do stay, throw in a link and bob's your uncle Smile

QueenBOObread · 28/01/2013 22:48

Okay, here goes. Here is my latest purchase which will have the sneerers spinning in their polyester:

Alexander Wang heels. Oh how I love them. Must think of ways to wear them when the sun comes out Smile.

QueenBOObread · 28/01/2013 22:53

Actually my latest purchase was this evening - a pair of black Aubin & Wills chinos for £17.50. Lovely thick tummy controlling cotton and skinny of leg. I'm planning to roll em up and wear with ballet flats. Tres chic, in my head anyway.

MarshaBrady · 28/01/2013 22:55

Bravo they are divine! Superb first link Grin

And that whole outfit, (wish I had got that Birger dress [dammit]).

shopafrolic · 28/01/2013 22:55

A&W chinos are fab QueenBoo. I have two pairs, burgundy and navy. They look v good with brogues too.

OP posts:
Mrsap · 28/01/2013 22:56

Fab shoes. This thread is great for inspiration, as was A&W.

It's funny I think some of the negative comments elsewhere on MN has got all the lurkers delurking.

libertychick · 28/01/2013 22:56

QueenBOObread I am Envy. Very lovely indeed. Do you just sit in the evening with them on your lap stroking and smelling them or am I the only one who does that with new shoes and bags?
