Oh!!!!! Seeker you live on a boat? . That is wicked.

soupdragon your x-box room sounds suspiciously like it's morphing into a media room.

I could have great fun with a hatch. In fact it would be quite useful to have them in every room for frightening people and silently making ominous objects appear out of them. I have a very frightening doll with wonky eyes that likes to randomly appear in places like DH's sock drawer and the kitchen cupboards etc. Bwahahahaha.

In the 1980's lots of people here had intercoms in their houses so that you could summon children etc. from three floors away. They seem to have gone out of fashion but I could also have great fun with that too pretending to be Jesus and what-not.

Most impressively I have two story pillars... This can only be appreciated if you understand the concept of Arabian style

I wasn't stealth boasting. I was just boasting.

But as I don't live there any more and will never own a house that lovely and huge again, I feel I can boast with abandon.

Not as wanky as a roof terrace with hot tub not me my neighbours although they have the same layout as us and with th roof terrace extending from the bedroom I always feel a little uncomfortable when I witness guests in there Grin

They also have a tiki bar with pink flamingos up there. I am well jel!

When my mum was young their house had a telephone room. It was more than twice the size my living room is and it was ONLY used for making and receiving phone calls.

I do wonder how in a couple of generations we've become poor, relatively speaking.

Look, I've read the whole thread and have still yet to establish what people should call the room with toys in (in which children play) if playroom isn't acceptable? I mean the room with your sofa/settee in it can be called a lounge, a living room or a sitting room. What else would you call a playroom?

I don't have a playroom, but if I did, that's what I'd call it.

Oh, and to the people that think 'stealth' boasting is going on on this thread - look up the word 'stealth' and some threads supposedly about the OPs PFB and whether reading War and Peace is normal at 5yo. Stealth boasting is not discussing pantries, studies and orangeries!!

I used to have a hatch from the kitchen to the (eek) playroom. It was great - at the end of the day I could scoop up all the toys that had found their way into the kitchen floor and throw them through the wall.

Our last house had a stupidly-large freezing cold hallway off the kitchen out to the back garden, with a toilet and futility room leading off it. We tried to call it something other than the Back Passage but no other name seemed to fit ...

No to feature wall or spice rack. So what do you call a room which contains all your ds's Playmobil and his drum kit/xylophone, but isn't the room he sleeps in (so not a bedroom) or the living room? If it's not a playroom, what is it?

PerryCombover · 14/10/2012 23:54

I thought spice racks were making a resurgence
