Ho dear me yes indeed. Oh yes.

I am currently sporting MATTE BLACK NAILS, with SILVER GLITTER ON BLACK as accent nails on my ring fingers.

In my opinion this makes me currently the coolest girl in the school by roughly 39.33%.

Sounds lovely - i do love a black nail varnish. Although, i like them to be a bit pearlescent rather than matte.

I'm currently rocking Gold nails and then Pink on the ring fingers, taking them off today/tomorrow whenever i can be bothered though as they are starting to chip.

I'm waiting for my neighbour to get back from hols so i can use her uv light and Shellac mine up!

JodieHarshHasALumpyPennie · 08/06/2012 11:01

Oooo, someone else doing a different nail colour

Have you done Shellac before?? I would love to know if it really does last.

I have seen the most AMAZING manicure where someone did matte black but with pearlescent black tips, rather like a Goth French manicure. I wanted to do similar but a) my nails are too short and b) I couldn't find those little curvy stickers you use to do a white tip...

Don't know if any of you have seen this blog the-polished-perfectionist.blogspot.co.uk/2011/08/dangerous-duochrome.html?m=1 but my nails would be like this if (a) I was allowed to wear nail polish at work (b) I didn't have the hands of an octagenarian charwoman and (c) I could actually paint my nails without painting the rest of my finger at the same time.

MsOliveOyl · 08/06/2012 11:58

Hmm, it sounds quite cool, but not as cool as THIS

JodieHarshHasALumpyPennie · 08/06/2012 12:12

Arsebiscuit - erm, WOW! Amazing. The peacock blue is IMMENSE. It even looks better than Nails Rock gold leopard print nail transfers, and that's saying something Grin

Olive - what the...how has she done that?!?!

I know I'm beat

OP posts:
MsOliveOyl · 08/06/2012 12:16

Haha, don't worry, your mani is still way cooler than mine Grin Mine are plain bright red atm.

JodieHarshHasALumpyPennie · 08/06/2012 12:25

There might be a slightly alarming disconnect between the frankly aching hipness of my fingertips and the remainder of my person, but never mind Grin

OP posts:
heartshapedskull · 08/06/2012 13:19

I loves anyone who wears black nail polish, I'm sporting opi black - at work too - and i'm "over 40"

cocolepew · 08/06/2012 13:22

I have a very dark blue on with tiny glittery silver stars on. the bloke who served me in the spar was very impressed Grin

ceebeegeebies · 08/06/2012 13:26

Ooh I love nail polishes.

Tonight, I am going to go with the 'pastel' trend and do alternate nails of peach and lemon - am just sat here debating whether I should put some sparkly silver glitter stuff on top aswell...

I currently have on the Nails Inc 'sprinkles' nail polish which is fab.

Nail polish is my obsession Blush

JodieHarshHasALumpyPennie · 08/06/2012 13:28

This is what I really want to do, but my nails are too short and I can't find the little stickers you need Sad

ceebee I saw someone doing the pastels/alternate nails/matte top coat trend t'other day - it looked awesome probably because she is a 22 year old dancer

OP posts:
ceebeegeebies · 08/06/2012 13:33

Jodie Boots sell the stickers as I have bought them from there several times.

I am not a 22 year old dancer unfortunately but still like to think I can rock the look Wink. I did it a few weeks ago with pale pink and lilac nails and someone told me they looked like sugared almonds Grin

Ooh now you have got me thinking whether I should put my matte top coat over the top instead of sparkly shiny stuff Hmm

ceebeegeebies · 08/06/2012 13:35

I am interviewing all day tomorrow and unfortunately I have had a bad reaction to hair removal cream on my top lip Blush so my face looks horrific at the moment so am hoping to distract people with a fab manicure instead Grin

JodieHarshHasALumpyPennie · 08/06/2012 13:36

Ooo Oooo do matte, but then the sparkly shiny on an accent nail. The contrast so WAY COOL. this isn't quite right but gives some idea.

I am way too excited by all this aren't I Hmm

OP posts:
ceebeegeebies · 08/06/2012 13:40

Am at work so can't check out any blogs etc so can't see the photos - will look at them tonight.

Never done the 'accent nail' thing - which nail do you do? Is it always the ring finger?

MsOliveOyl · 08/06/2012 13:44

Jodie that matte black with shiny black tips mani is Shock. I want.

JodieHarshHasALumpyPennie · 08/06/2012 13:45

Ah - OK: yeah, pretty much always the ring finger. It somehow balances things out a bit. Possibly also because it's a smaller nail so it's discreet.

I just bought a pot of silver glitter to layer over any colour. With that and the pot of matte top coat I can do a version of shiny or matte with an accent nail in any of the colours I already have. I am telling myself this constitutes SAVING money as opposed to SPENDING on 2 new bottles of polish Hmm Grin

OP posts:
chaosisawayoflife · 08/06/2012 13:47

Ooh, inspired by all the talk of accent nails. I don't have glitter but I do have silver crackle. The rest of my nails are bright coral. I'm going to give it a go!

JodieHarshHasALumpyPennie · 08/06/2012 13:48

Mazing innit Olive! I did have a look in Boots for the french manicure stickers but couldn't see them - perhaps I'll have another hunt. It would look SO good in red as well!

Another fave look of mine is the half moon mani - appaz. popular during World War II, which I can kind of imagine actually. I might do this in black or red, and instead of doing the half moon in a contasting colour just cover it when putting on the matte top coat, so the half moon is shiny....

OP posts:
ceebeegeebies · 08/06/2012 13:50

Oh yes, I also have a bottle of silver glitter (well the nail jewellery that Nails Inc have which has big flecks of silver in it and looks pretty cool), bottle of matte top coat, crackle in several different colours, several bottles of the magnetic polish along with about 40 plain nail polishes - you name it, I have it I think Hmm

Dh despairs of me Grin

cocolepew · 08/06/2012 13:58

NYC do a great multicoloured glitter one. And its cheap!

MsOliveOyl · 08/06/2012 14:53

Half moon manis are gorgeous! I've never done one (not sure how tbh) but love these two:

This thread has inspired me to grow my nails for the first time in years! I always wear colour, but usually just on short nails.

JodieHarshHasALumpyPennie · 08/06/2012 14:57

Oooo those are both lush - specially the second one.

I actually think coloured/unusual polishes look better on shorter, blunt nails. If you also have long nails as well, it's all bit WHOA NELLY. Know what I mean?!

OP posts:
Mikyahrose · 08/06/2012 15:47

Ooo Ooo - cant believe i've been out all day and missed out on all this nail talk.

Must comment on lots in this thread, here goes:

jodie
First - Shellac is very good, Stays on a good 2/3 weeks. the only down side for me, is that you're stuck with the same colour for so long and depending how quick your nails grow, if you've got a dark colour on it grows out. But i would still highly recommend it.
Having now seen a picture of the black matter - i likey! Do boots do the matte topcoat - what brand?
Also love the different colour on the tips and the goth franch style looked cool. But i have the same problem as you, in that my nails are too short - i prefer them this way, they're also rounded rather than squared and i can never get the tips to look right.
Msarsebiscuit
Ooo i do like that feather look. could never do it myself though. I've seen these sold and displayed and looked pretty easy to do and quite effective. www.konad.co.uk/
MsOliveOyl
Loving the studs look, but from my experience of sticking gems on, they get caught on things and come off and then it doesnt look so good.
Like the look of the half moon style too - especially the second pic you posted.

After all this talk of nails - i'm now gonna do mine. jodie you've talked me into the black - so get off what i've go on, cut, shape and paint. i've got a red glitter OPI i havent used yet, so gonna do that over the top on my ring fingers.

'Citin' :)

FauxFox · 08/06/2012 15:55

I just bought a Rimmel Matt topcoat in boots because of this thread Grin am trying it out as we speak...my plan is black nails (Rimmel Blackout) with matt topcoat on all except ring fingers which I will use seche vite top coat on for a super shiny finish - nice?
