New thread for chatting. Oh and swapping S&B tips.

Having a manic day here - INSET day at school and I have 7 kids (inc my 3) over for lunch. While also trying to "work from home" and talk to removal people.

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 31/05/2012 07:48

Thanks Stropps- I am gearing up to start..... Herbs, hope the new shorts get more than one outing!

Last morning for me - meeting this afternoon, then day off for DS who has an INSET tomorrow, yay!

So are we still meeting on the 8th without our leading lush?Smile

Blackduck · 31/05/2012 08:55

CV Grin I should have stopped at FYI!
Well back to fleeces here today, I have two days off technically, but have bought laptop home and will be working Sad
Off to try to buy a union flag t shirt for ds this morning ( I did say I'd only buy if it had 'up with the republic' on it Smile. Otherwise red/White/blue will be a sonic y shirt ....

herbaceous · 31/05/2012 09:57

Shorts encrusted with dust, sun cream and bubble solution by the end of their first day, and it's now the sort of weather only the very determined holiday-makers wear shorts. Or those men who wear shorts every day of the year.

I'm v much up for meeting on 8th. Bfi bar?

CointreauVersial · 31/05/2012 12:51

My last day at work too - raaaah!

Tomorrow DS has an inset day, and we are off to the Primary School Maypole dancing in the afternoon so he can laugh at his sisters.

Next week I am only working one day - raaaaahhhhh!

Not doing much jubilee-wise, though, apart from a village picnic on Monday. Anyone else?

Blackduck · 31/05/2012 13:06

Bugger, have to go in tomorrow as when they reimaged laptop last time they didn't put cisco client back on and I can't remote in! Ahhhh!
Nothing planned jubilee-wise, but do want to go to see house have offer on again, so I can go 'noooooooo what are we ThINKING' :) (also need to think how furniture will/won't fit....)

bigTillyMint · 31/05/2012 13:15

Herbs, Bfi bar fine with me - h
ows abt the rest of u?Smile

We will be doing the jubilee up north - parties with our thermals and waterproofs no doubt!

beachyhead · 31/05/2012 16:15

Happy Jubilee ladies, I wanted to ask your S&B advice on these. I went back to work last winter, so I haven't done a summer worky look for three years. It's quite smart there I suppose, Jigsaw trousers, little cardi's or T shirt blouses.

I like these because, they are flat and comfy....but they are white, and I'm not sure 47 year olds should be wearing white shoes....or anyone for that matter... I did want to stay away from black, I do want them flat and comfy Blush, but I'm just not sure on the white-ness issue...Views please?

TheReturnOfStropperella · 31/05/2012 18:52

beachyhead, I really wanted to get those shoes last summer but couldn't get my fat little trotters into them comfortably. I tried on the blue, but I think they also come in other colours, including pale grey. I think they are lovely, but not keen on the white, tbh, but then I'm not a very, um, pristine sort of person. Grin

bigTillyMint · 31/05/2012 18:57

I like them - very preppie with the right skirt and cardiSmile

On a sort of S&B note, would you/do you let your DD go to school with the ends of her hair dyed red?
We have just had/are having WW3 because DD has come home having done this at friends (who is doing her hair tomorrow - after schoolWink) and DH has put his foot down and said she must wash it out.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 31/05/2012 19:02

harharhar, BTM. I am currently having to let dd go to school with all her hair dyed a hideous shade of red. She did it (badly - managed to dye most of the bathroom loo seat and not quite all of her roots) when I was at circuits on Tuesday evening. Sneaky, sneaky.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 31/05/2012 19:03

PS: I am opting for a "shrug shoulders" approach, as otherwise she will probably dye it green or something next time...

bigTillyMint · 31/05/2012 19:05

Well, that was my thoughts too but DH has gone all hard-line with her (she is being a right cow to him ATM) and says that she needs taking down a peg or two. She is still only 12Shock

TheReturnOfStropperella · 31/05/2012 19:21

Hmm, difficult. I can see it from his POV, but it's a question of picking your battles, isn't it? Dd has mentioned hair dye before, but I never thought she would do it (natural hair colour: lovely light blond) but it is fair to say that about 30% of the girls at her school seem to use the same colour dye, so I'm not going to fight about this one. I just made the point that she must ask me for an old dust sheet to cover the bathroom with next time she does it and make sure she keeps her school uniform well out of the way (grrrr) and that way she has to take responsibility for what she is doing. I don't like the sneakiness of the action, but it was obviously done that way because she thought I would make a big fuss. So I'm not making a big fuss. My take on it is that in the end, it's her hair and if she wants to be a (red) sheep, it's up to her. I want to keep the communication channels open. She is 13 (14 in a few weeks).

bigTillyMint · 31/05/2012 19:27

She's in the shower! With much door slamming, of courseGrin

I agree about lots of the girls doing it, but it was kinda telling that her BF isn't doing hers till tomorrow as they break up. And ironically I had bought her a spray to use when we go up to our friends on Saturday.

Oh well, seems like she's toeing the line, albeit angrily!

Hello Beachyhead - I like the shoes but would prefer the navy version for the same reasons as Strops. Grin [slut]

DD1 is having the tips of her hair dyed pink next week. And cut the week after. The other girls in her year seem to have full on expensive highlights and full slap. So I think a few pink tips are neither here nor there.

I'm afraid I won't be able to make the Hags Meet Up. Sad I will be in London weds to Friday but have to rush back to take DD1 to a nightclub on the other side of Paris as DH will be collecting DD2 from Brittany. Not from Brittany, obv, but from the school. She apparently didn't make the final of the short story competition (she was robbed) - they have finally deigned to let us know.

bigTillyMint · 31/05/2012 21:19

rubyGrin re coach trip!

MrsS that is a shame - both being robbed of the final and a crepey night out!

Seems that DD may have a point about DH being an old something-or-other and out of touch with what everyone does!
He maintains that none of the girls at his place dye the tips of their hairConfused

We can be! The BFI bar is just the other side of the river. Is that where the seniors coach goes from?Grin

Ruby, if you change your mind, I can drop off my fugly Naot sandals with MI for you! Grin

CointreauVersial · 01/06/2012 00:12

Ruby, don't try to kid us, you will of course turn up looking effortlessly glam as ever.

More football club hassle this evening; I have just downed most of a bottle of wine in order to blot it all out. Luckily DH has volunteered to do the school run tomorrow; I don't intend to get up til noon. So there.

Blackduck · 01/06/2012 05:41

Sorry to hear about DD MrsS.
I am off into work this morning due tp ITs incompetence when I should have been laying in bed. (not strictly true as have been on school run all week)

Beachy I am with those who said nice shoes, but not white....I do a lot of colours on my feet (mainly for boot), but not white.

Ds off to in-laws next week so may sneak in a cheeky cocktail with dp.

bigTillyMint · 01/06/2012 08:01

Well DD stalked off to school this morning (with her hair restored to natural blondeness) - completely blanked me, so I am hoping she turns back up at home at the given time tonight.
Not looking forward to 4+hours with her in the car on a family journey tomorrow morning, gulp.

beachyhead · 01/06/2012 08:46

Thanks so much for your safe advice. I must admit I was distracted when I was shopping as I bumped into an old friend in the shop. We chatted, both wearing single shoes and nasty pop sox. On the subject of dip dyed hair, DD had a deep red dip dye administered on her dark brown hair by me, in the kitchen... Looked ok, matched her school blazer Smile all washed out now, but it took a month or so. She is 15 though!
