Who's up for choosing my wedding dress for me?

Help! I'm getting married in August and haven't bought a dress yet. I've narrowed it down to two. Can the style gurus of MN help?

This one (tried on in a shop a few weeks ago and can't get it out of my head. My bridesmaid thinks it's stunning: "your bum looks like Pippa Middleton's" My mum thinks it's okay: "but your bum looks enormous")

Or one a bit like this (can't find the exact one, but it's a similar shape. I tried it on in a shop this morning and couldn't believe how thin I looked! Bridesmaid number 2 thinks it's amazing)

Thanks

Both are gorgeous. By what you say though it sounds like the 1st one may be 'the one'

Go with the first one and channel Pippa

JasperJohns · 05/04/2012 15:20

I love the first but not 2nd.

Pootles2010 · 05/04/2012 15:20

I'd say by your 'can't get it out of my head' comment the first one is the right one!

cookielove · 05/04/2012 15:20

I prefer the 2nd one myself, but really if you can't get the 1st one out of your head, its the one i would go for.

sweetheart · 05/04/2012 15:21

I like the 1st one the best - it's so classic and elegant but not obvious / usual style wedding gown.

jen127 · 05/04/2012 15:22

The first one is gorgeous!

LtheWife · 05/04/2012 15:22

What shape are you? The first one will look lovely on someone with a balanced shape (hips equal to or even slightly smaller than shoulders) but would overemphasise a pear. The second one, although similar shaped the flare of the skirt starts higher up so will help balance things out more.

calzone · 05/04/2012 15:22

The first one but only because I am boooooooooooored of strapless dresses.

I will find the link to a dress I saw yesterday which is completely stunning imho!

EllenRose · 05/04/2012 15:23

First one Smile

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 05/04/2012 15:23

So bum looking massive is not a problem then?

Argh. Why is it so hard? I thought the dress would be the fun bit, but I'm close to turning into bridezilla over it!

First one is the better of the two, though for my tast still shows too much flesh for a wedding dress - a sleeve would be nice!

MoonlightandRoses · 05/04/2012 15:25

Definitely the first one.

calzone · 05/04/2012 15:25

here

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 05/04/2012 15:26

I may wear a bolero for the church amothersplace. Would that make you feel better? Grin

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 05/04/2012 15:27

Oh no calzone! Don't show me more loveliness! I'm already struggling.

That's bloody gorgeous though Grin

calzone · 05/04/2012 15:28

And look at the price!!!!!!!!!!!

calzone · 05/04/2012 15:28

No to a bolero too as that is like wearing a dress with a cardigan!

spoils the whole look!

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 05/04/2012 15:30

Sorry, missed a few of those middle posts. I'm a size ten LtheWife and usually a pear, although BFing at the moment so my boobs are bigger than usual! I didn't think I wanted anything that emphasised hips/bum, but there was just something about this dress. The second one was definitely more slimming though.

I meant one of those lace boleros Calzone. Would that work?

Oh, I should have said, the wedding is in a church, but the reception is at an activity centre... complete with climbing wall, canoeing and a villafe

First one.

AngryFeet · 05/04/2012 15:36

I love the first one! I can't imagine your bum looking enormous if you are a size 10 and if the boobs balance a rounder bum out then it will still look good (I am one who thought Pippas bum looked bony and crap at the Royal Wedding though). Are you tall?

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 05/04/2012 15:38

5'6" ish. I'll probably need it taken up as I'm not great in really high heels.

LtheWife · 05/04/2012 15:38

In that case I'd say a mermaid silhouette like the first one would look gorgeous, they're only really a problem if you're bottom heavy. I find the key to mermaid silhouettes though is to pay extra for alterations to make sure it really fits properly. I've seen too many photos of mermaid dresses that haven't been altered and it really detracts from the shape. They need to be close fitting to flatter.
