Who's up for choosing my wedding dress for me?

Help! I'm getting married in August and haven't bought a dress yet. I've narrowed it down to two. Can the style gurus of MN help?

This one (tried on in a shop a few weeks ago and can't get it out of my head. My bridesmaid thinks it's stunning: "your bum looks like Pippa Middleton's" My mum thinks it's okay: "but your bum looks enormous")

Or one a bit like this (can't find the exact one, but it's a similar shape. I tried it on in a shop this morning and couldn't believe how thin I looked! Bridesmaid number 2 thinks it's amazing)

Thanks

If I hadn't seen your other one, I would quite like that one. But I have, so the new one feels a bit 're-bound' [busmile].
Also, should you find one that's perfect, but a bit big, it's possible to take it in by one to one-and-a-half sizes. If you find one that's perfect, but a bit tight, check the seams / darting - if they are generous, a good dressmaker can adjust up half a size.
Getting a decent dressmaker as mentioned by a PP isn't a bad idea - I designed my own dress and had it made up - the making itself was so inexpensive I was able to use top of the range fabrics. If there's a dress fabric shop near you they should have a list of people you could talk to should you go that route.

Will still keep digging though!

Most things at the moment seem to be strapless and have tulle or huge crinolines involved...

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 09/04/2012 17:48

That first one has been on my eBay watch list for a few weeks Calzone Grin Great minds!

What do you think of this?

OP posts:
calzone · 09/04/2012 20:24

Lovely (though do not like the model's hair!!) but not amazing.

MoonlightandRoses · 09/04/2012 20:51

That one is v.nice - and for that price, it's not too scary an experiment either. In the spirit of the thread though, here's a couple more to look at.

marketplace.asos.com/listing/dresses/soft-teal-chiffon-evening-dress-with-silver-embellishments/283807 (they can do this in other colours apparently)

marketplace.asos.com/listing/dresses/jewelled-infinity-sleeveless-wedding-dress/212688

Hope you found something today though.

Argh. I'm annoying myself now. I just cannot decide.

I've emailed that woman from preloved to see if her Elenco dress is still available. I've also found a store in New York Hmm with a genuine one and am going to call tomorrow to find out how much it is. I'm also considering sending a friend who lives in the states to her local bridal shops to see if she can find/order a real one (she bought her own dress out there as it was so much cheaper than here) Damnit. Why did I try on a designer dress? I so should have known I'd fall in love with it and nothing else would match!

If I haven't found one by the end of tomorrow I'm just going to put all the ones I 'quite like' in a hat and pull one out.

(PS - My mum's getting cross with me now! "You just need to order one darling. Any will look lovely on you. You will not look lovely walking down the aisle in your undies")

If you can't get the Elenco UK/US one, seriously consider the local dressmaker - August is loads of time to have one by too. I only had five and a half months between enagement & wedding, and didn't decide on styles / find dressmaker etc., until three months before the day.

Also, while not sure any of the dresses currently showcased in the below link would suit, could be worth contacting the shop to see?

Mind you though, I think your mother's right on the "...any will look lovely on you..." front. Grin ,but second cremeeggs' wishes on finding your perfect one. Please let us know when you do!

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 14/04/2012 21:56

Looks stunning Smile.

Keep us updated when it arrives (I know, it's a long wait - am still waiting for my own wedding dress ordered online). I'm sure it will look lovely on you.

trixymalixy · 15/04/2012 21:39

That is a beautiful dress, I'm sure you'll look amazing in it!
