Who's up for choosing my wedding dress for me?

Help! I'm getting married in August and haven't bought a dress yet. I've narrowed it down to two. Can the style gurus of MN help?

This one (tried on in a shop a few weeks ago and can't get it out of my head. My bridesmaid thinks it's stunning: "your bum looks like Pippa Middleton's" My mum thinks it's okay: "but your bum looks enormous")

Or one a bit like this (can't find the exact one, but it's a similar shape. I tried it on in a shop this morning and couldn't believe how thin I looked! Bridesmaid number 2 thinks it's amazing)

Thanks

Hilly, that dress is lush

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 05/04/2012 20:36

I've tried that one on Hilly Grin

You have great taste. I loved it, but it looked bloody awful on! No idea why, I think it was a thicker lace and just looked a bit fuddy duddy.

Tch, quiche, Blush I've been caught trying on dresses instead of updating you all about nursery, colds and teething. You know what you've started now though don't you? I'll be over there telling you all about all my plans very soon Grin

I prefer the first dress too, it's lovely Smile

trixymalixy · 05/04/2012 20:38

The first one is my favourite of all the dresses that have been linked. Your bum does not look big at all, but some shapewear and having it fitted properly to you would make it look a lot better.

HillyWallaby · 05/04/2012 20:39

Yes, that's often the trouble with these things - it's all about the way they hang. Sometimes the boring looking things look fabulous on, and the ones that look really exciting on the hanger look crap on! Trial and error...

LittleWaveyLines · 05/04/2012 20:41

We''ll be listening like a good quiche does! Grin

Strange about Hilly's one - would have thought it would be fab, but that's how these things go when you try them on I suppose.

First one then,,,

MoonlightandRoses · 05/04/2012 20:59

Actually, think the back of the dress looks stunning on you, but not sure about the front. Would you consider something a little less traditional?

www.net-a-porter.com/product/189310

Also, if there's a Barnardo's wedding shop near you it's worth a look - I know two people who picked up stunning dresses there for next to nothing. They are not always 'pre-owned' either, they also stock end of lines or runway dresses

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 05/04/2012 21:08

Thanks moonlight. When I tried it on I actually texted the pics to my best friend with the words 'I think I've found the dream back-of-dress' - I wasn't convinced by the front either, but I think when it's taken in, I have my make up on, hair done, holding flowers and a wriggly DS then it'll work. That dress you linked to is stunning, but it's not very 'me'. I think it would cling in all the places I'm worried about.

Think you could get away with a lot of dresses given your figure, but given the first one is lovely, on you and it makes you feel good then guess you have found your dress Grin.

I think the first one looks stunning! It seems that the only reason your not sure is your mums comments? If so, don't worry- don't look back and regret it. Not sure if it's an age thing but second dress is more 'traditional' so maybe that's why your considering it if it's something your mum might prefer? If it helps I went for a dress which my mum liked, but she had other favourites, I don't regret it for a moment and once I got it altered it was amazing!

JeewizzJen · 06/04/2012 10:31

Oooh Truth you look fantastic in that dress!! Definitely no bum worries!!

jen127 · 06/04/2012 11:29

Love the pictures ! What a gorgeous dresss, and you have a fab figure!!

trixymalixy · 06/04/2012 11:47

I think once the front of dress no 1 is tailored you make the most of your stunning figure and you have a better non nursing bra on then the front will look equally as stunning as th e back.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 06/04/2012 14:09

Thank you everyone! I've taken the pics down so that the HN baby ladies stop staring at my ass but really appreciate all your support. I'm going to take both bridesmaids to try on the first dress again tomorrow just to double check and then order it online as it's far too expensive in the shop

My mum's lovely by the way. Just thought I should say that. She'd tell me I looked beautiful if I wore a bin liner to walk down the aisle.

Glad you found your dress - and hope you enjoy a lovely day with friends and family [busmile]

revolutionconfirmed · 06/04/2012 15:45

1st one. It's elegant and bridal without being obviously bridal.

Plus, you can't get it out of your head. A very good sign.

Sausagedog27 · 08/04/2012 07:35

How did it go yesterday op?

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 08/04/2012 13:53

Badly Sausagedog [busad]

I went back to the shop and they had sold the dress they had (sample shop so only one dress) and now that I've had a proper look online all the places that do copies have really dodgy returns policies so I'm not feeling great about buying from there.

Have started a new thread about wedding dress websites, but am now open for alternative dress ideas if anyone can find any!

Ephiny · 08/04/2012 14:23

Maybe a dressmaker could make you a 'copy' of that dress from the photos? That might put it outside your budget though. Or if you have a friend/relative who makes their own clothes?

If not you might just have to accept it wasn't meant to be, and look at it this way: you might find something even better, and it'll all have been for the best :)

I wouldn't buy from a dodgy-looking website, not worth the risk IMO, especially as you have a limited budget.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 08/04/2012 19:33

I like the 'accept it wasn't meant to be' theory. Now trawling the web for another one I like.

That's such a shame - there is a replica one on Pre-loved though

MoonlightandRoses · 08/04/2012 20:18

sorry, hit 'send' before I finished. It was posted up more than 21 days ago, so not sure if it's still available.

Will do a bit more digging to see what's out there.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 08/04/2012 20:33

Thanks Moonlight. Another MNer had linked to that on the other thread, but it's also a very long way from me so wouldn't be able to try it on.

I've just found this and my hand is lurking dangerously close to 'add to cart'
