managing to resist ordering t-shirts that is. We all know I have already given in and ordered the shortest, least practical shorts of the year Grin

Ooh, that's really pretty NYE. Will have to hope for a few more sales in the next few days. Also OMG I really like this leather jacket. I even like the weird two-tone effect. Hardware is silver but there isn't very much of it. It is so expensive though, boo. Was the jeweller one of the ones up by Dotty P?

blossoming · 06/03/2012 21:30

You've just reminded me hopefulky to thank the lovely ants for the scarf link. Really lovely, but cream (boo).

Mominatrix · 06/03/2012 21:36

Thank you for the welcomes - can't believe I did not find this thread earlier! NYE, that dress looks stunning , and the peplum works there. I guess the ones I had seen so far looked like limp fabric attempting to be peplums.

I am also on the hunt for THE perfect leather jacket. I am trying to convince DH that Rick Owens is a design classic and I would never need another short jacket ever. His response, [hmmm] - I think I have abused that excuse Grin.

Like the French Connection top, but I LOVE the trousers. Unfortunately, those trousers would be permanently stained just by DSs lookin at them.

Oh this is fun!

AmberNectarine · 06/03/2012 21:47

Yes, that is why I am definitely doing the style day NYE! Really like the first dress you linked to, and NY's DP one. I find peplums very flattering on me as I have a small waist and accompanying large arse- but they are so not my look. In fact dresses as a whole not really my thing - wonder what style that falls under butch

Hello to you Mominatrix Yes this thread is a lot of fun - and highly addictive!

NYE!i think the peplum could really work because the rest of the dress is so fitted. Great colour, as is the DP one.
Hopefully i love the brown and turquoise bracelet from your seller. Shame its not my colours. Tempted to look out for something similar tho so thank you for the inspiration.
Blue hope you had a nice evening out.
DeCameron the children's entertainer will be worth every penny. I had one for my 7th bday and still remember how good it was. After hosting a few parties here at home, Im a great believer in throwing money at them now! DS2s bday is in a couple of weeks, must give it some thought.

Me and Em dresses have arrived via DHL man dropping them off on his way home. Both v nice but think the grey has the edge despite it being a bit shorter than the navy. DH liked both but pointed out the excess of blue dresses hanging in the wardrobe. Am going to have a proper try on tomorrow.

MarshaBrady · 07/03/2012 05:46

Decameron did you do the one I had? Was that right?? He was brilliant and all I had to do was laugh with some friends who stayed to watch too. So good.

NYE I think you could really do that look, really lovely colour. I think you will know when you try it on.

Awake far too early thinking about stuff to do, so realised it's just better to get up and do the stuff to do!

Decameron · 07/03/2012 06:39

Hopefully, very pretty bracelets. Your mother's comment makes me laugh as my DD1 already asks when she can have a necklace of mine (which was my grandmother's), I tell her she will have to wait her turn.

That colour will be lovely on you.

Ollie, great you like the Me and Em dress. How many of us have it now? You, me, Hopefully, Ants, Emo, who else?

Marsha, no, I was going to pm you as I was trying to remember his name but then I thought of Amanda's action kids. I used to take DD1 to her classes and she loved them. I think it would be a bit of a lame party if it were just me jumping around trying to amuse them and they are too young for party games. She would like a Hello Kitty theme . Next year I will try to persuade her to go for pizza and to a movie with a few little friends.

Decameron · 07/03/2012 06:41

NYE, that colour will be lovely on you.

Hopefully · 07/03/2012 07:11

Ooh, my super short shorts of impracticality have been despatched!

So as a thread, we're basically keeping Me and Em in business, and that's without any lurker purchases!

NYE I'm also a fan of ASOS for returns - they definitely set the bar for other online retailers.

Amber I am also not a big dress wearer - I actually really like them, but as the top and bottom halves of my body don't really match (v curvy bottom half, must straighter squarer top, despite reasonable size bust) it can be hard to find ones that flatter both ends. I will continue my eternal maxi dress quest this summer.

Mominatrix I also covet a Rick Owens, but have avoided ever trying one on in RL as I suspect there would be no returning to the high st for leather jackets.

MarshaBrady · 07/03/2012 07:21

Looks fab Decam. I'm all for making things less stressful, easier, more enjoyable for everyone. Not a smidge of bad feeling here! It was good fun, and everyone loved, loved being entertained.

This year ds1 is seven and he is inviting 8 (or 10 can't remember) friends for afternoon tea after school. He's written the lists and told me on which day I should buy things (3 days before, 1 day before etc). He's a better project manager than I am Grin.

Hopefully yes it's true, once you go somewhere ie. Rick Owens, it's harder to go back.

AmberNectarine · 07/03/2012 07:43

Yes hopefully beware Rick Owens. I am too used to premium brands and was wandering the shops yesterday despairing at the quality, proliferation of man made fibres and the fact most of the clothes looked like they had spend the previous week dumped on the floor (I'm looking at you Zara) but the flipside of that is having to pay about 80 quid for a plain top my kids are going to wipe their noses on! There really aren't too many shops in the middle. Thank god for Whistles.

Decameron · 07/03/2012 07:44

That's funny, Marsha. She didn't want a party last year and for her second birthday party, she cried, it was all too much.

I have some Me and Em stuff from last year, it's lasted well, want more! I like this dress too. I saw some nice maxi dresses in the Hush catalogue.

pickledsiblings · 07/03/2012 07:49

Mominatrix, did you see this Whistles Roxy leather jacket that quite a few on the thread have bought and rave about?

AmberNectarine · 07/03/2012 07:51

Ooh have just seen there is a top version of the Me&Em dress!

Decameron · 07/03/2012 08:06

I have it, Amber, tis very nice.

MidnightinMoscow · 07/03/2012 08:07

Morning all. My mother is coming today to help me with DS, am actually looking forward to it as I cannot lift him anymore.

Decameron I want to be an owner of the Me and Em and not sure how much wear I'd get from it this year...although it might be good in the winter. Will be watching your Hello Kitty ideas evolve with interest. Grin

I agree about a lot of high street clothes in terms of quality etc. Although those that are overpriced for what they deliver annoy me more. Reiss falls into that category for me. Agree that Whistles gets it right.

Welcome to Mominatrix.

I love the fact that you know my colours NYE! You really do know your onions, and will be fab.

Well, another day of waddling and symptom spotting ahead. It was at this point that I went into labour with DS so here's hoping for a repeat performance!

Meant to say to Icey good luck getting the bag past DH. Grin

notyummy · 07/03/2012 08:33

Fingers crossed MIM for you - and really pleased that you are getting some help.

Hope the DP trip is successful today NYE, although I suspect they have a lot more online than actually in the store, so you may end up having to order. Could be worth nosing around for a code too - I don't know any current ones but there were certainly a few flying round recently when I got my stuff.

I am trying to blank out birthday parties for a while (DDs not until July.) After the trauma of last year when the two 'party organisers' we had booked and paid for as part of package at a local place didn't show up (or the prizes and games that they were supposed to supply...) I am dreading the whole thing. DD had a great time mind you, but she wasn't the one racing to the spar to buy a whole load of tatt and organising frantic sessions of musical statues and grandmothers footsteps. She is asking to go to the same place again (because the one thing it did have which all the kids loved was a bouncy castle) and I have already told her that isn't happening as they aren't having a penny of our cash. She would like a pirate party again (same as last year) but there is plenty of time for that to change. She has already put the order in with DH for a butterfly cake - sponge with pink icing Grin

Weather is foul here - windy and wet. Wearing my Gap charcoal trousers with purple jumper and black wedge boots. Not exciting but at least can deal with the weather.

Oh, meant to ask - has anyone seen Hard Candy? Film with Ellen Page (who was in Juno.) I watched it yesterday after recording it as it came well recommended. Very good - fab performances from the two leads. Rather disturbing though.

Decameron · 07/03/2012 08:35

You deserve an easy labour, Mim. I think Reiss is overpriced too. I do like Whistles and LK Bennett and at least they have codes at times. I will be ordering Hello Kitty hats, pinata, plates, cups and probably the cake as well. Half the little guests are boys, they probably won't be impressed. :o

Decameron · 07/03/2012 08:39

I've seen Hard Candy, it is quite hard to watch at times. Great movie though. That's dreadful that the party entertainers let you down like that.

pickledsiblings · 07/03/2012 09:14

Ollie, glad the grey Me and Em works on you. How would you style it - does it work with opaques and shoe boots?

NYE, good luck with the peplum dress - tres chic.

NY - Summer birthday = picnic in the park, no? Skipping ropes and hula hoops, daisy chains and crabs bends/handstands...probably with about 8 kids max.

MrsCB, I had a chat with a lovely Italian lady this morning . Massimo Dutti returns!!

Didn't fancy Hard Candy although I loved Juno.

I am having to censor My So Called Life - skipped past the episode where Jordan was hassling Angela for sex Shock. DD assures me that she hears worse on the school bus ShockShock.
