I've been doing it for 2 years now. I don't even want to know how much money I would have spend in the meantime at the salon. It's so easy! And I have the confidence now to try different styles, different ponytail positions etc. Goodbye long layers, hello shoulder length cut! And I don't have to sit in the hairdressers chair and cringe because I hate it when they brush my hair due to an old skull fracture.

That and the mooncup. Saved me a fortune!

Brilliant!

Stick

Hmmmm.

I bet it has...you just think it hasn't...

FoofFighter · 10/02/2012 16:59

Have you tried splitting the hair into two pnytails and having one at fringe/front and one on crown? If you have lots of hair then helps

ViviPru · 10/02/2012 16:59

Praps your ponytail is too far forward, Stick?

Psammead · 10/02/2012 16:59

ROAR @ fannypriceless Actual tears, now.

Ooh, I am tempted. I am at work, there is nothing to do today. There is a scissors beside me...now, if only I had a hairbrush!

If I show that video to OH though, he will FREAK. He is odd about the importance of paying money to get a haircut even though he is frugal in most areas of life.

Hmmm....I even dreamed I got my hair cut this week.

ViviPru · 10/02/2012 17:00

My goodness, that sounds like extremely advanced MN Haircutting, Foof....

StickAForkInMeImDone · 10/02/2012 17:00

So you should Vivi that photo was a bit too close to home
So how far back shall I put pony tail now?
DS is offering his assistance if that would help?

Foof, that's what I do in summer when I want to lose more length at the back.

Today I did lots of ponytails all over and hacked 'em all off. Grin

Right, going to straighten me hair a bit and then attempt the MN hair cut. Will post photos if I'm brave enough!

Psammead · 10/02/2012 17:02

Stick - straight up like a teletubbie from the crown. But dont hack too much off.

StickAForkInMeImDone · 10/02/2012 17:03

~Right, I have done the ponytail a bit further back, and I have found some better scissors. Last time.

Ifancyanewname · 10/02/2012 17:03

right, I'm going to get the mirror from the bathroom into the kitchen to give it a go...just pray the baby doesnt wake up or my toddler have any issues with mummy hacking her hair off....she got rather upset when I just mentioned it Confused

MrsDeeBee · 10/02/2012 17:03

I reckon you need the pony as far forward as possible to lose length off the back.

Only other thing I can suggest is, can you gather the back but not the sides and top, iyswim ?

MrsDeeBee · 10/02/2012 17:04

Just don't cut too much...

ViviPru · 10/02/2012 17:04

I've got a great mental image of an actual Psammead sitting there cross-legged in the sand doling out sage words of haircutting guidance to assembled ladies of MN :)

notveryinventive · 10/02/2012 17:04

Ive got very long very thick wavy hair. I hardly EVER go to the hairdressers. About every 9 - 12 months. I am soooooo tempted by this, but tooo scared haha.

MrsDeeBee · 10/02/2012 17:04

Good luck, Hairy. Smile

StickAForkInMeImDone · 10/02/2012 17:05

OK it is straight up. Do I just stabby stabby or cut another half inch off?

Showmethemhappyfeet · 10/02/2012 17:05

Well that's about 3 inches off... Got a bit snip happy Confused
Now where's the hair dryer...

Psammead · 10/02/2012 17:05

This is a sign - I need a haircut, and cancelled the one I had booked today due to a slight financial overspend (otherwise known as Style and Beauty)

Am I brave enough though?

HillyWallaby · 10/02/2012 17:06

'Just do it quickly and not too far in !'

I think I may have said that to a boy once.

LikeAnAdventCandleButNotQuite · 10/02/2012 17:06

I have a mental image of Stick looking in the mirror criying "nothing's changed" and looking at the front and sides, failing to see the vast expanse of bald on the back of her head

Grin sorry

Psammead · 10/02/2012 17:06

3 inches. Ok. Now I'm interested to know how it is...
