I've been doing it for 2 years now. I don't even want to know how much money I would have spend in the meantime at the salon. It's so easy! And I have the confidence now to try different styles, different ponytail positions etc. Goodbye long layers, hello shoulder length cut! And I don't have to sit in the hairdressers chair and cringe because I hate it when they brush my hair due to an old skull fracture.

That and the mooncup. Saved me a fortune!

Brilliant!

Have you un-hairbanded happyfeet? What's the initial verdict pre-dry or is it too early to say?

MrsDeeBee · 10/02/2012 17:06

For those too scared, trust me, I was absolutely PETRIFIED. All I could think as I did it was "ohmygodIshalllookawfulifitgoeswrongwhatamIgonnadoifitgoeswrong", but it didn't !

I recommend taking it slowly and cutting a bit at a time, you can always re-tie and cut more off if you want.

But don't be scared...the elation is great afterwards !

mrsalwaysawake · 10/02/2012 17:06

But if you do more than 1 ponytail, you have to cut them all evenly? That is advanced!

Psammead · 10/02/2012 17:07

Oh my God you are all making me cry laughing!

How's it looking, Stick ?

FarloRigel · 10/02/2012 17:10

This looks great! Looks gorgeous on you, Psammead! I am somewhat sick, however, that I have been paying a fortune at the hairdresser for what looks like the exact same haircut Envy. I'm going to try this in a couple of weeks when my hair needs cutting again Smile. Any chance of moving the thread so it's not lost before I get my arse into gear am ready? Thanks for posting this Smile.

Sorry, Vivi. I have lowered the tone.

MrsDeeBee · 10/02/2012 17:10

Farlo

You can watch thread so you can keep it to do ?

notveryinventive · 10/02/2012 17:11

Have we establised if kitchen scissors are ok? I often hack knots out my hair and when I had a fringe always cut that myself, but not sure about this. My hair currently goes as far down as my bra strap and could really use a hair cut, but Im far too scared.

Psammead · 10/02/2012 17:11

ThreeLittleDucks YES! Great.

I feel a bit like an evangelistic preacher, converting people.

(Vivi, start speaking in tongues, it's good for business)

I have been lurking on this thread and am about to give myself a haircut, my hair is down to my arse and has completely lost any resemblance of a style it may have had once.

I hope this works Grin

StickAForkInMeImDone · 10/02/2012 17:11

I still haven't lost any length off the back (even DC agree) The top and sides look good but I wanted to get rid of the length at the back too.

Ifancyanewname · 10/02/2012 17:12

ok, hair is in pony, just going to watch the video again to make sure i'm doing it right

MrsDeeBee · 10/02/2012 17:12

As long as they are sharp, not.

Don't use blunt scissors.

Boots and Superdrug do hair scissors from £5 upwards, if that helps ?

Psammead · 10/02/2012 17:12

Notvery - any sharp, biggish scissors will do the job.
