I've been doing it for 2 years now. I don't even want to know how much money I would have spend in the meantime at the salon. It's so easy! And I have the confidence now to try different styles, different ponytail positions etc. Goodbye long layers, hello shoulder length cut! And I don't have to sit in the hairdressers chair and cringe because I hate it when they brush my hair due to an old skull fracture.

That and the mooncup. Saved me a fortune!

Brilliant!

frankly i equate cutting own hair with being mumsy and ach dont be bothering wi that kinda fuss. next it will be a scrunchie and no make up

vjoy · 12/02/2012 11:22

ohh. so tempted. does it work on short hair? mine is just chin length at the moment but in desperate need of some layers.

methsdrinker · 12/02/2012 11:57

Have just done DD2 aswll and its lloks great.
We are flicking and swishing our heads as one.

I was reading this thread yesterday evening with a big Grin on my face, desperate to have a go - but was about to go out with the family so had to wait til this morning...

Have just cut and coloured and am well pleased! Even my daughter noticed and liked it - she is 10 and usually oblivious.

Showmethemhappyfeet · 12/02/2012 12:11

Well it's nice for you that you can afford to go the hairdressers whenever you feel the need SM but unfortunately not everyone can. The cut works lovely!Grin

scottishmummy · 12/02/2012 12:14

Oh right,it's the martyred and skint cut is it?

VJayazzle · 12/02/2012 12:17

I've been doing this for over a year now, it's fab isn't it. I did it last night then coloured it this morning, saving £££££'s. I must admit to going to the hairdressers twice in the last 18 months but that was to get the back done.
vjoy mine is chin length, I just did it to cut my fringe back in and to give me some layers around my face.

OnlyANinja · 12/02/2012 12:24

It's not martyred if you take the money that you would use for haircuts an do something nice with it.

TheCrackFox · 12/02/2012 12:24

A girl at my work does the mumsnet cut and it looks great on her. I am too chicken and anyway my hair looks better without layers.

VJayazzle · 12/02/2012 12:30

It's not skint either, why pay someone something you can do yourself!?!

TheScarlettPimpernel · 12/02/2012 12:35

Gosh, do you mean to sound so rude and contemptuous SM?! Grin

I ain't skint, and I am not a mum, and I'm not martyred. I'm very busy indeed, and a trip to the hairdresser isn't some massive girly treat that I look forward to for weeks, it's a bloody inconvenience

Oscarandelliesmum · 12/02/2012 12:38

EEk, I couldn't resist and had a go myself. A bit Farrah Fawcett, meets Mullet. I look even less like that beautiful model than I did ten minutes ago!
Will see if my husband can have a go at fixing it tonight, gulp

SparkySparrow · 12/02/2012 12:45

Ok, I haven't read the whole very long thread. Can someone tell me if I could do it with quite long hair? I am seriously considering it! mad moment

I also have a appointment at my hairdressers a week tomorrow, so if its that bad she could fix it!

c0rnsilllkrunninglikealaydee · 12/02/2012 12:49

It's not about being skint although it makes sense to do something yourself rather than pay someone else to do it. I hate hate hate going to the hairdresser. You didn't strike me as the vain type SM.

Fiendishlie · 12/02/2012 12:52

hey Sparky, I chopped 8 inches off my waist length hair yesterday. It looks nice but the layers are longer than for most on here who have done it. It's very good for neatening up very long hair and I am debating whether to go a bit shorter now :o

SparkySparrow · 12/02/2012 12:56

Theres a pic on my profile. My hair is quite thick and already has layers. Does this matter?Does it still work with a side parting?

SparkySparrow · 12/02/2012 12:57

and can I use kitchen sissors? Grin

TheScarlettPimpernel · 12/02/2012 12:59

I reckon it'd work perfectly Sparky - it won't be a huge change of style, just perk up your layers and get rid of dryness/split ends

c0rnsilllkrunninglikealaydee · 12/02/2012 12:59

I used normal scissors but have now ordered some decent ones from amazon!
I offered to do ds2's hair for him but he said that I needed to practise on dolls and not on him.

c0rnsilllkrunninglikealaydee · 12/02/2012 13:00

sparky your hair will be ideal for it

SparkySparrow · 12/02/2012 13:03

Oh crap!
I want to do it now! Confused
Dh is going to work at 1.45....if I'm still feeling brave I might give it ago! Hasn't been cut for 6months!

catinboots · 12/02/2012 13:07

I did mine! Layers look tidier but length the same.

Might try and do a bit more........

SparkySparrow · 12/02/2012 13:45

Right, if this goes wrong I am leaving MN!

diddl · 12/02/2012 14:02

Just looked at the link on p1 & the hair looks awful afterwards (imo)

Really scratty!

PeasforP · 12/02/2012 14:06
