I've been doing it for 2 years now. I don't even want to know how much money I would have spend in the meantime at the salon. It's so easy! And I have the confidence now to try different styles, different ponytail positions etc. Goodbye long layers, hello shoulder length cut! And I don't have to sit in the hairdressers chair and cringe because I hate it when they brush my hair due to an old skull fracture.

That and the mooncup. Saved me a fortune!

Brilliant!

I would still like some more off the length, just an inch or two but if ido the ponytail at my nape does someone else need to cut??

bebejones · 11/02/2012 08:15

Ok, I'm actually going to do this!! Woke up all excited this morning at the prospect!! :o

Should I cut it wet or dry? (The ends are very bad & split so I'm thinking it might be easier to do it wet)
I might try the nape of the neck ponytail aswell as I can't get it all into the unicorn one, do I put all of the hair into that one or just the hair that doesn't go all the way to the front? Confused

footflapper · 11/02/2012 08:59

I've just done it & I'm really pleased with it! 10 mins at the most! I never need to go to the hairdressers again, plus I do ds hair :o Highly recommend it!

Showmethemhappyfeet · 11/02/2012 09:02

Checked hair all over now that I'm not so hyper! I still love it. Going into town to get dye later and by Mobday morning will actually look like iv been the hairdressers! :)

vampiresdontsparkle · 11/02/2012 09:10

well after I read this thread I decided to go for it and I love it!
wasn't to sure how it would turn out but its great, so nice to keep most of length and get rid of all my split ends! I can get a brush through my hair now without ripping my hair. thanks guys Thanks

leaves thread swishing new smooth hair

footflapper · 11/02/2012 09:16

It's so unbelievably simple :o We're gonna put the hairdressers out of business!

I've done it, all by myself!!! :o And it worked beautifully even on my fine, thin, stupidly brittle hair! Saved myself £40, plus an hour & a half of humiliation & mindless chatter! Could probably go shorter but I'll give it a couple of days to see how it works out, my hair is nearly always tied back anyway. Love it, I'll never have to darken the door of a salon ever again! :o (Even DH is impressed!)

Thanks Psammead Thanks

skirt · 11/02/2012 11:57

I've done it too on my really thick frizzy hair. It looks just the same as I pay £40 every 6 weeks for. All my split ends gone, my head feels much lighter - it's fab. I did it on dd2 as well and she loves it too though her hair is much longer than mine so it just looks like she has had a trim. We kept her long fringe out of the ponytail and just trimmed that separately itself. Brilliant.

HappyHippyChick · 11/02/2012 12:05

I have just done it too, nothing seems to have come off the back despite me taking about 5 inches of ponytail off! I think it looks ok, will find out when dh gets back from the shops - although he did tell me not to cut my own hair!!

OnlyANinja · 11/02/2012 12:09

How long has he been at the shops - could you pretend you very quickly nipped to the local hairdressers?

I'd be interested to hear what people who are not in-the-know think of all your haircuts.

I went to a new hairdressers this weekend, what do you think? Tell me honestly because I need to decide if I'm going to go back to them again.

Eclairwaldorf · 11/02/2012 13:05

Another one here who did it this morning! Hair is curly anyway so although I am pretty sure I didn't cut in a straight line you can't really tell. Hair feels much lighter and has a better shape, hadn't had it cut for at least six months so definitely needed a tidy up. Might do it again in few weeks but get some better scissors first too....

Hair was past bra strap length and is now past my shoulders at front, i took off a couple of inches at least, I think the layers at the back are too long but next time will try the two pony tail thing...

Have already got some hair dye in the cupboard, so might even get that done later this weekend... Stuff the ironing Grin

Had wanted to do this for a while now but could only find descriptions of what to do, that video posted really helped, thanks psammead for helping us all save £££ and look good..... Because we're worth it!!! ( couldn't resist) Grin

Eclairwaldorf · 11/02/2012 13:07

What's the nape of the neck ponytail, haven't read thread since about seven pm yesterday and looks like a couple of new methods have crept in Blush

notveryinventive · 11/02/2012 13:08

I think thats to lose a bit of length too. I fancy that as well, but not sure if I should have done that first or second.

mrsalwaysawake · 11/02/2012 13:14

I'm wondering that too, notvery. Should I have done the nape of neck one first, or can I do it after? And also wondering exactly what difference it makes how far along yer bonce you position the ponytail. I'm after some sort of graph: position of ponytail vs layer-eyness or something?

Fiendishlie · 11/02/2012 13:14

I've just done it too. I've taken off about 8 inches, so I no longer have 'waist-length' hair. I washed it straight away as it's frizzy when brushed and it's still wet so I'm not sure how it's going to look when dry. It feels nice and light though. My hands were shaking when I was wielding the scissors!

Eclairwaldorf · 11/02/2012 13:19

8 inches!!!!! Think that's the record on this thread!

There is a risk that I will get scissor happy now though, and take off an inch or two a week til I do actually look like Cadfael.

serotoninbutterfly · 11/02/2012 13:19

Psammead, I love you Grin did it last night and it's super awesome! My crap boring one length blah hair now looks AMAZING! Going to send DP out to the shop to buy über red hair dye now, this barnet needs some sexiness! Grin

Fiendishlie · 11/02/2012 13:21

:o eclair. But it was down to my waist and a bitch to maintain

LackaDAISYcal · 11/02/2012 13:39

Lordy, I'm beginning to think mine is a bit Cadfael like...or Purdy from The Avengers in the cold, hard, sober light of day Blush
I've been out this morning though, and no-one has pointed and laughed at me so it must look OK. DH and the DC say it looks fine, but I'm not sure that the opinions of toddlers and men who get a No4 all over is worth very much.
Should I post photos for the official verdict?

accidentprawn · 11/02/2012 13:41

i have never done it. but i want photos!

mrsalwaysawake · 11/02/2012 13:42

Ooh yes, photos! But will we actually tell you if you do look like Cadfael??

bebejones · 11/02/2012 13:43

8"!!! Shock

I did nape of neck ponytail after unicorn one coz I couldn't get all of my hair into the unicorn ponytail. Worked fine.

Hmm
accidentprawn · 11/02/2012 13:45

and just to say i am growing my hair so won`t be doing it in the foreseeable future!
