I bloody love the MN haircut.

I've been doing it for 2 years now. I don't even want to know how much money I would have spend in the meantime at the salon. It's so easy! And I have the confidence now to try different styles, different ponytail positions etc. Goodbye long layers, hello shoulder length cut! And I don't have to sit in the hairdressers chair and cringe because I hate it when they brush my hair due to an old skull fracture.

That and the mooncup. Saved me a fortune!

Brilliant!

got to page six and then my baby fell asleep so I seized the opportunity to jump in the shower wash hair and cut! I bloody love the result, thank you OP!! I was never going to get round to going to the hairdressers with baby in toe and this was so easy (and no clean up because i leant over the toilet bowl and then flushed all the hair away Grin

boobiebrain · 10/02/2012 22:55

I've done it, my hair is quite long, poker straight and I've shed all my pregnancy hair so is a bit lacklustre.

Results - well I wasn't sure about the front bit but maybe I did too much snippy snippy and not enough stabby stabby! Then I changed the parting and it looks quite well sexay! (my hair ain't been that for a while!)

Cheers ladies!

Bunsouttheoven · 10/02/2012 22:59

To come back & report, the two ponytail method worked fine. Doing just the one meant either not cutting enough off the back or too much off the front.

Frankly I am very pleased with it. DP said why don't just go to a salon but admitted that it looked much the same as they would do.

I will do it again for sure. Come on ladies lemmings get choppingGrin

bebejones · 10/02/2012 23:10

Definitely doing it in the morning, have roped DH in to help hack some off the back! (tried the ponytail and I can't get it all to the front and not confidant enough for the '2+ ponytail method'!!)

Home haircuts all round tomorrow, DH needs attacking with the clippers and DD needs a trim!

Still a bit wobbly bout doing it but it honestly can't look worse than it does now!

JagrsMullet · 10/02/2012 23:11

So many of you have tired it and it's worked...I'm so tempted now! Was planning on a haircut in a couple of weeks anyway so if it goes wrong I can just go and get it sorted.......hmm, if I'm feeling brave in the morning I might give it a try!

JagrsMullet · 10/02/2012 23:11

tried! Not tired.

PacificDogwood · 10/02/2012 23:15

I wonder how much cash has been saved today, as a direct result of this thread? I'm not about to go back and count up the number of posters but if we assume at least ten, saving about £40 each, that's £400! Amazing!

MrsDeeBee · 10/02/2012 23:21

I am so pleased to hear that the MN Haircut has worked for so many of us !

(Also very glad that I am not the only person daft enough to try it).

HSMM · 10/02/2012 23:27

First time I tried it, I just snipped off about an inch. Took off an inch a day until I'd lost about 6 inches. Hair still long, but lovely and light with layers. Just did a straight unicorn ponytail. I've cut it wet and dry and even with my poker straight hair it looks great.

HappyHippyChick · 10/02/2012 23:43

Ok, I'm definitely doing this tomorrow (had a bit too much wine tonight)

MrsDeeBee · 10/02/2012 23:46

You'll be fine, Happy.

If you're nervous, cut a little bit at a time. Too little is better than too much, the same as going to the hairdressers.

Except this way you have complete control of the scissors. Smile

boobiebrain · 10/02/2012 23:51

Actually just done more stabby stabby and it looks even better!

MrsDeeBee · 11/02/2012 00:01

I know it was me who said it but stabby stabby sounds awful !

Maybe it should have been snippy snippy ?

Someone will read this in bits and think we are all murderers !

FoofFighter · 11/02/2012 00:30

ok I am drunk Wine dare I try a trim Grin

MrsDeeBee · 11/02/2012 00:32

Are you sure you can hold the scissors steady ? Grin

FoofFighter · 11/02/2012 00:35

no!

FoofFighter · 11/02/2012 00:35

Don't really need a trim all over just some lenght off the back, abnout two inches maybe

MrsDeeBee · 11/02/2012 00:38

Maybe would be best to wait till you have steady hands ?!

Or, if you are dead set on trimming, part hair equally into bunches, tie at nape of neck, and make sure you cut the SAME amount off each bunch ! If need be use smaller hair bands to 'mark' where you want to cut.

Good Luck !

LackaDAISYcal · 11/02/2012 02:43

For anyone worried about their hair being too short at the moment...I just bloody did it Grin...after reading all evening whilst sinking a bottle of wine...oops!
Was kind of complicated as my last "do" was a very short asymmetric bob six months ago, but I'm very pleased with the result! I did a front ponytail with the back bits that wouldn't fit in left alone. Liked the front, but back too long, so did a back ponytail and cut to nape of neck. Then straightened up the still slightly asymmetric front and stray long bits.
I have started to sober up Grin and it still looks OK

We shall see what the daisy family jury thinks in the morning, if they even notice it at all!

I saw the original thread years ago and never had the nerve, even as a regular fringe hacker. I can't believe that after leaving my fringe alone for six months (no mean feat I can tell you!) I've just cut all of my hair.
Never going to a salon again now!

Cheers Psammead for reminding me of how it's done Thanks

NoillyPrat · 11/02/2012 06:54

Love this thread Grin I'm going to do the cut and also colour it later.

NoillyPrat · 11/02/2012 06:59

Also, my hair currently is about bra strap length. I want it to be about shoulder length, so do I do the nape of the neck ponytail too? If so, which ponytail do I do first? Thanks :)

StickAForkInMeImDone · 11/02/2012 06:59

Well I am still happy with mythis morning Smile Though think I may get DH to even it up a bit at the back.
So glad it wasn't just me finding it hard to get some length off the back.

This thread has made me laugh so much,

Thankyou Psammead Thanks

StickAForkInMeImDone · 11/02/2012 07:00

my hair

StickAForkInMeImDone · 11/02/2012 07:01

Noilly I would do the ponytail at the nape of your neck first though if you have read my posts you might be best taking advice from someone else Grin
