I've been doing it for 2 years now. I don't even want to know how much money I would have spend in the meantime at the salon. It's so easy! And I have the confidence now to try different styles, different ponytail positions etc. Goodbye long layers, hello shoulder length cut! And I don't have to sit in the hairdressers chair and cringe because I hate it when they brush my hair due to an old skull fracture.

That and the mooncup. Saved me a fortune!

Brilliant!

psam you're the best for starting this thread! Now feel a bit I'll that I was actually just brave enough to do that... Where's the wine....?

ViviPru · 10/02/2012 17:34

I'm hyperventilating at the thought of swapping my parting let alone hacking my own barnet off. You women are BRAVE.

StickAForkInMeImDone · 10/02/2012 17:34

Ok. Going to do tea for DC then wash hair and dry it and see how it looks when styled.
Good luck anyone else attempting it! Its dead easy Wink

I feel all fuzzy inside, now.

Sniff. It's been emotional.

Now I better start dinner Grin

Vivi I don;t want to swap my parting. It has been the same side since I was,...well, since I had hair.

MrsDeeBee · 10/02/2012 17:35

Right, am popping off for dinner. Will be back some time this evening to see how you all got on..I want to see photos !

Hairynigel · 10/02/2012 17:37

It looks the same still on me as well. Was hoping to lose a bit of length :(

ViviPru · 10/02/2012 17:38

Me too, Stick. This thread is really opening my eyes to my risk-averse approach to personal grooming that was hitherto unbeknownst to me.

HillyWallaby · 10/02/2012 17:38

Psammy waddya mean you don't know? Hmm WTF am I listening to a woman who doesn't know?

God, and I came this close.

frownieface · 10/02/2012 17:40

Well I have done it!! You have saved me a fortune in hairdressers DP hasn't noticed yet Hmm but he has only just got in .

No photos of me but I will put a photo of how much I cut off!!

I have payed £60 for a haircut like this.

Thank you Thanks

MerryMarigold · 10/02/2012 17:42

Hey, I have that haircut but from a salon. I can only afford the 40quid 3x per year so got dreadful ends and was just thinking: no money again this month. I can't WAIT to do it myself. Or the Nape of the neck bob. That sounds great too. Saving thread.

Moodykat · 10/02/2012 17:47

All I can say is, thank fuck I'm in hospital with poorly DS2 or I'd be chopping mine off too. I must confess I just did check the trolley for scissors though, might've passed the time!

mrsalwaysawake · 10/02/2012 17:48

Scissors-wise, I used the ones that came with DH's cheapo Argos clippers. Took a lot of chopping as I have thick hair, but worked ok.
I always scrape my hair back anyway, so if it had looked shite, I could have hidden most of it, except the short bits that don't tie back. Hmmm, didn't think this through, did I?
Haircut on a whim is exciting, though!

skirt · 10/02/2012 17:51

I'm going to do this tonight in secret and after a massive glass of rose.

FoofFighter · 10/02/2012 17:52

Nape of the neck bob merrymarigold? Where's that one?

smogwod · 10/02/2012 18:03

I'm sooo jealous of all you lot who've actually had the balls to try this!!

I'd love to give it a try but fear I have far too much hair and the back's all kinky and the fronts straight. And lets face it I'm just too bloody scared!

Bunsouttheoven · 10/02/2012 18:07

Done mine too easily influenced, split ended, hairdresser phobic girl

Front ok, about the right length but back seems too long still. Might try ponytailing off front, for no more cutting there & then reponytail back for more chopping?

Is this where I end up with a terrible mullet?

Have I become home haircut reckless?[psychotic face]

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 10/02/2012 18:09

So, can someone explain where you put the ponytail? Right at the front, but to the side - I have a slight side parting and I can't work it out.

Psammead · 10/02/2012 18:12

Directly om your partinb at the front.

OP posts:
FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 10/02/2012 18:13

OK, great, thanks.

Psammead · 10/02/2012 18:25

Did you do it, fruiitsalad? Grin

OP posts:
delilahbelle · 10/02/2012 18:29

I have just washed and blown dry my hair.

It is all swooshy and wonderful, and DH was really impressed

Thanks and Wine to Psammead

Psammead · 10/02/2012 18:31

Yay! Grin

ViviPru · 10/02/2012 18:35

I'm worried about Bunsout and her off-piste ponytailing methods - Quick, Psam - assist.....
