I've been doing it for 2 years now. I don't even want to know how much money I would have spend in the meantime at the salon. It's so easy! And I have the confidence now to try different styles, different ponytail positions etc. Goodbye long layers, hello shoulder length cut! And I don't have to sit in the hairdressers chair and cringe because I hate it when they brush my hair due to an old skull fracture.

That and the mooncup. Saved me a fortune!

Brilliant!

Well done Stick, glad you like it. Don't overreach yourself, now. Grin

Ifancyanewname · 10/02/2012 17:23

ok, its done.....the layers at the front look good but there is a lot of length still on the back but i dont want the layers at the front any shorter or theyd be up round my eyes :)
its def as good as i have paid for many a time though and its got rid of all the split ends! I'm tempted to go the same length as that girl in the video but i think i need dhs opinion first or he might banish me from mn for evermore :)

HillyWallaby · 10/02/2012 17:23

Right. Listen up. My hair is in the pony tail. It is just beyond shoulder length at the moment, with a growing out fringe which about in line with my cheekbones.

What I don't understand is that unless I cut scary amounts off it isn't even going to touch my fringe layers, but on the vid it looked as if they didn't cut too close to the booble, and she had a definite fringe. Albeit a long one.

I liked her fringe but I'd want my side bits a bit less angled and feathered.

What do I need to do to get less angled and feathered? apart from go to a proper hairdresser like a normal person.

MrsDeeBee · 10/02/2012 17:23

But Kate, look, Stick's HAPPY ! And she cut her hair all by herself and didn't spend any money and now she'll never have to pay to get it cut again.....

Next Friday

How to colour your hair all colours of the rainbow ? Grin

delilahbelle · 10/02/2012 17:25

OMG - I did it!!!

DH asked me if I was sure it was a good idea - I told him mumsnet is never wrong.

And I now have no split ends and lots of lovely layers :)

Off to wash and blow dry it now

At £40 a cut, say 7 cuts a year, mumsnet has just saved me £280 per year :)

Hairynigel · 10/02/2012 17:25

It's up in the bobble, I'm in front of the mirror with scissors at the ready

Psammead · 10/02/2012 17:25

Ifancy - good stuff. You can try what stick did and make a ponytail at the nape of your neck and chop off an inch from the ends...

Note how I made that stick's idea, relieving myself of all responsibility Grin

Go delilah ! Smile

Psammead · 10/02/2012 17:26

Hilly, to get less angle, put ponytail more in the center.

KateUnrulyBush · 10/02/2012 17:26

Vivi, I see those pompoms you know...

Chubfuddler · 10/02/2012 17:27

Oh good the urge to participate is strong.....

If you have a side parting which side does the ponytail go on - the thinner side or the side with the most hair? And will this work on hair just above the shoulders? Not sure it will go into ponytail on top anyway.

InfiniteFairylights · 10/02/2012 17:27

Quenelle, I don't even bother doing the 'chopping into it' bit at the end, as I don't think it particularly notices with the curls.

This was the thread that first inspired me to cut mine. It has before, during and after photos too!

Psammead · 10/02/2012 17:27

Delilah, brilliant!! So happy it's saved people some dosh.

HillyWallaby · 10/02/2012 17:28

Centre? Or just further back on head? Surely further towards the front means more mulletty' layered.

Psammead · 10/02/2012 17:28

Chubby, towards the thinner side.

Go nigel!

KateUnrulyBush · 10/02/2012 17:28

Your hair does look lovely Stick...

Fimbo · 10/02/2012 17:29

Is there ANY remote chance of this going wrong? Because if there is believe me i am that cack handed I don't want to end up looking like an 80's Pat Sharp meets Limahl.

ViviPru · 10/02/2012 17:29

This thread is gripping.

Showmethemhappyfeet · 10/02/2012 17:30

I have no clue how to get pics on here (iPhone app) but anyone who is thinking of it, do it!!! Bye bye split ends, hello layers! DP just walked in like 'oh it's actually even... It actually looks really nice!' dried, put back up, chopped some more, then tidied up the front bits with scissors and comb, and I love it! Grin Thanks!!!!

Psammead · 10/02/2012 17:30

Hmm. I would put it more centered, but I don't know 100%

StickAForkInMeImDone · 10/02/2012 17:30

Ifancyanewname So glad not just me who didn't lose any length!
Try the ponytail at the nape of the neck - worked well for me.
Now, about my fringe...Grin

MrsDeeBee · 10/02/2012 17:31

Stick

LEAVE YOUR FRINGE ALONE ! Grin

StickAForkInMeImDone · 10/02/2012 17:31

Psammead towards the thinner side. ?? I put my ponytail on the fuller side! Ohgodohgodohgod I look like a twat don't I!

Psammead · 10/02/2012 17:32

Dont worry! It'll be fine. You can swap your parting, or do it again on the other side to even it up.
