How much do you spend on clothes and shoes for yourself?

Kendodd · 16/01/2012 13:33

I spend about £80 a year on myself and about £90 each on the DCs, that includes their shoes from Clarks.

£166 pcm is my budget for my own clothes and shoes, ( £2k a year) I give DS2 a clothing allowance of £30 per month. If I don't need anything to wear I sometimes spend it on going out instead.

Kendodd · 16/01/2012 14:21

Wow, I know that I'm probably a fair bit below average on the spending front but 2k a year is more that average isn't it?

I spend so little partly because I'm skint and partly because I just don't really want anything.

OP posts:
DonaAna · 16/01/2012 14:24

I'd say I spend at least 2k a year too. Perhaps more. 4k? Don't want to know.

ForwardOcho · 16/01/2012 14:25

oooof. A lot. Even when I try not to, it's still a lot. I am too embarrassed to admit exactly how much. I'll wait for someone braver than I to start.

ForwardOcho · 16/01/2012 14:26

Thanks DonaAna - cross post. Yeah, probably.

Jessicaalbastwin · 16/01/2012 14:38

About £500 a month on average.

Hullygully · 16/01/2012 14:40

Probably about £200 per yr on myself (but that's because I don't give a shit and I work from home so don't have to). DC: whatever they can screw out of me.

irregularegular · 16/01/2012 14:41

Don't really have a budget, but probably about 100 a month.

Pascha · 16/01/2012 14:41

About a hundred a year, or a couple of things.

Gillybobs · 16/01/2012 14:49

On average £200 pm combined for me and Dcs. Sometimes much less if there are other big things to buy. I dont buy designer and I shop around, get lots in sales etc. But I do like clothes so cant imagine only buying 1 or 2 things a year.

SaraBellumHertz · 16/01/2012 14:52

I don't have a budget as such but tend to pick things up as and when so month on month it varies and I wouldn't dare add up what I spend over a year

I haven't bought much this last year, mostly because I am post baby and still BF and cant be arsed with buying things i'll hate the sight of in another 6mths but I'm going away next week so will buy some boots and some jeans and maybe a short coat so don't suppose I'll get much change from £800.

I'm going back to work next month after 6 years at home so will need suits and shoes and bags and when I finished BF (probably about the same time) I'll be after a wardrobe revamp since I've been pregnant and feeding for past 3 years.

Just as well my maternity wardrobe was cheap and cheerful really!

Jessicaalbastwin · 16/01/2012 14:58

By the way, that budget includes having a beauty treatment and going out with friends aswell, not just clothes, shoes, products and accessories.

scarlet76 · 16/01/2012 15:03

In2011 I would say approx £250 per month on me Blush and around £40 per month on DC combined - this includes Startrite school shoes, school uniform, coats, out of school wear, cub and brownies uniform etc...

But I work full time, contribute significantly finacially to household and do not have debts. This is my justification and I am sticking to it Grin

In all seriousness, I am planning to spend less on myself this year. H and I are public sector workers - pay is effectively frozen, the cost of living continues to rise and so there is less money in the pot Sad Also I had a huge clearout at xmas and now realise that I actually have plenty of stuff. Will realistically reduce my spending on me to around £100 per month this year.

AmberNectarine · 16/01/2012 15:32

Erm, not sure, but what I've spent in the sales is definitely knocking on the door of four figures Blush

DCs (2 of them) I'd say c.£100 pm.

Hopefully · 16/01/2012 15:41

Good timing for this thread! For the past few years it's been about £20pm on each DC and about £200 each per year for me and DP. Luckily we are a bit more flush now, so I am trying to work out what is a sensible budget which will allow me to buy clothes that last. The expensive bits I bought when I had a good job five years ago have stood up so much better than the cheap bits.

mamasunshine · 16/01/2012 15:49

500.00 a year for 3 dc.
200.00 a year for me and dh. (pound sign not working!)

Would love to spend more...our (mine and dh's) clothes are falling apart now, need to invest in a needle and cotton to keep them going a bit longer Blush

Thank goodness my parents are amazingly generous with the dcs in terms of new clothes otherwise with would be in trouble!

I used to have money for clothes and would spend most of my spare money on clothes pre-dc. Hopefully one day soon we'll have money to be able to top up on basics at least!

Purplehonesty · 16/01/2012 15:55

Not much really. Ds has an older cousin who we get beautiful clothes from. I prob spend around 50 per month on me, dh and ds combined. So 600 a year. Includes shoes and essentials. Maybe more if we have to buy new winter coats and boots

carciofi · 16/01/2012 15:59

About the same as DonaAna and ForwardOchoprobably more. I spend about £100-150 per month on the two DDs. I am going to rein it in this year though.

Littlepumpkinpie · 16/01/2012 16:01

Never added it up always buy stuff when its needed. Dc shoes are always startrite and they get 3 or 4 pairs a year DS1 is having a very big growth spurt at the moment since September I have had to but new bigger school trousers twice and looking at them on him now he needs next size up AGAIN. So payday is friday and yup more will be brought ds2 is in need of some new jeans so will buy a couple of pairs for him.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 16/01/2012 16:16

Too much - I go through fits and starts but prob on average of £300/month (just on me though, love buying new clothes)

TimothyClaypoleLover · 16/01/2012 16:18

My budget is £75 per month.

scarlet76 · 16/01/2012 16:19

I didn't include my hair cuts and colours. I spend £95 every other month on a cut and highlights. Though I may try and reduce the frequency a little on this this year.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 16/01/2012 16:29

Quite a lot tbhBlush

I wouldn't like to add it up and some months it's more than others but it probably averages about £250 a month!

I love clothes, shoes, bags......make-up, face stuff.....shall I go onBlush

higgle · 16/01/2012 16:52

I seem to need lots of different sorts of clothes - I work somewhere I need to dress in a smart but sedate manner ( get lots of my workstuff on ebay)
I like to look more fashionable out of work and then there are always a couple of outings a year that need a proper expensive outfit. Then there are gym things, outdoor things, riding things, etc. etc. In mitigation I do sell on the stuff I don't wear on ebay.

NewChoos · 16/01/2012 17:02

hmmm I seem to buy a few things at the same time and then nothing for a few months. I think I have probably spent around £1000 on Autumn/winter clothes.
Maybe averages out to about £200 per month (not inc make up/hair).
