  1. I will NOT continually waste my money on 'designer' hair products from Boots. I do not need any more thickening lotions, volumising mousses, serums, sprays (sea salt spray? WTF was I thinking?), texturisers or anything else. It is all SHIT and makes my hair look like it hasn't been washed for a week. All I need is GOOD shampoo and conditioner (pref. Aveda - which I could afford if I stopped spunking cash on Boots rubbish) and Elnett.

I will not sit bemoaning a lack of time to do anything for myself such as luxuriate in lovely bath with essential oils, manicure, DIY facial whilst I simultaneously stuff my face with crisps and wine. Evenings are to be turned into a time to groom and pamper rather than watch bad TV.

I will lay out my clothes the day before to avoid the "WTF shall I wear today" panic which besets me at least twice a week making me late for everything.

I am starting the NY with a severe clothes sorting session this morning.

I will only buy accessories and other items which finish off potential outfits from my existing wardrobe ( I can't be the only person who owns skirts/trousers/dresses which would look perfect if only I had xxxx to go with........and yet I never seem to purchase the essential "go with" item)

BrianButterfield · 02/01/2012 11:17

Laying out clothes v good idea - I do that when I'm working and it's so helpful. In fact I sort out 5 outfits on a Sunday night and put them in the spare room with undies/tights/accessories and then I can just squirm into them, bleary-eyed, the next day.

I will stop buying cheap knitwear. Such a false economy. My Kew silk knit cardi I got from eBay has been through more than one 60degree wash by accident and still looks better than my Primark cotton cardis that looked like dishrags after one wear.

I WILL have facials every month. I will drink wine only every third day and the mony i save i will use on a facial. My skin is grey, haggard and tired.

I will lose that last stone so that I can fit into my clothes properly and not have to buy new clothes.

I will be more elegant. I will stop buying assorted crap and will dress plainly, in colours that suit me (grey, red, blue) and will use exisitig scarves and jewellery for lift rather than trying to buy new floaty boho dresses that look silly on me.

I am 40 ffs. I will find a hair cut that suits me. (goodbye waistlength rats tails).

LRDtheFeministDragon · 02/01/2012 11:35

I will stop pretending I'm going to buy 'proper' clothes when I lose weight and accept that the weight I am is much healthier for my body and looks fine (so there!).

I will join you all in buying clothes I actually need rather than assorted crap or, in my case, yet another black dress or not-quite-right jumper dress.

I will try to branch out into colours I don't wear (when did everything I own turn grey or black?!).

Vicky08 · 02/01/2012 11:48

I will only buy clothes I really love.
I will buy less clothes and spend more on them.
I will look after my hair.
I will wear accessories everyday.
I will NEVER leave the house with chipped nail varnish (rushes off to find the nail varnish remover).

swanrevelry · 02/01/2012 12:01

I will wear a necklace every day
I will throw away the tights with holes in them which I invariably end up wearing becase I run out
I will buy some hypoallergenic eye make up and wear some
Investigate contact lenses instead of glasses
Give up Alcohol for Jan
Swim twice a week
Physio for sore arm
Dry clean manky coats
Buy some inbetween shoes which are smarter than walking yet can be walked in!
Buy some red silver or bronze shoes to alternate with depressing black.
Wear scent every day as I have it!

BrianButterfield · 02/01/2012 12:05

Some good ones here!

With you on the nails, Vicky - good nail varnish + seche vite top coat = nice-looking, non-chipped nails for AGES and it only takes 10 minutes. I find looking at raggy, chipped nails so depressing. Must get in the habit more.

And yes on the tights, swan, must throw them away as soon as I take laddered ones off.

I am going to lose weight this year. I am going to drink only on Fridays and Saturdays. I am going to walk more. I am going to fit into my jeans again.

brawhen · 02/01/2012 12:26

I am going to start oil cleansing again and actually keep going with it.

Started last night!

Gillybobs · 02/01/2012 12:30

I will stop buying 8 pieces of cheap clothing a month and buy 1 decent thing I LOVE each month. Honest...

ujjayi · 02/01/2012 12:33

BrianButterfield Love the idea of arranging clothes for 5 days in one hit. Will try this one out. No idea why hadn't thought of it before since it is exactly what I do with holiday packing.

Scent, accessories and daily minimal make up I already do and I can guarantee they will instantly make you all feel more groomed and "together".

And yes, yes to trying just more exercise and taking care of oneself instead of looking for "solution in a bottle" type lotions, potions and quick fixes :)

I also resolve to get into a healthier sleep routine. Going to bed knackered at 11.30pm when I have been falling asleep on the sofa since 9pm is not a good sleep routine. Not least of all because the walking upstairs to bed seems to wake me again and then I stay awake until the early hours Angry.

ProjectGainsborough · 02/01/2012 12:33

I shall buy a muu muu.

Seriously. I am 7 months pregnant. I need to stop slopping about in husband's shirts and jeans with the top button undone.

Mrsrobertduvall · 02/01/2012 12:37

I will stop having "best " clothes in my wardrobe gathering dust.
I will buy Clarins body lotion for my top half because I like the smell and Nivea lotion for my legs.
I will book a course of facials tomorrow so I have 6 months worth(including one free)
I will not sit in the hairdressers saying "yes it's lovely" when it is lopsided.

Hopefully · 02/01/2012 13:36
  • I will wear nice clothes every day. Even if by 'nice' I mean nice jeans, t-shirt and scarf
  • I will wear at least a bare minimum of make up every day
  • I will lose the last 9lbs of baby weigh. It is really beginning to piss me off.
Hopefully · 02/01/2012 13:36

weight

henrythecat · 02/01/2012 14:33

Ooooh good thread.

  1. I will continue to buy clothes, shoes etc in complete outfits, buying fewer, higher quality items, building a capsule wardrobe.
  1. I will continue to wear lots of dresses but will find a casual trouser/jean style that suits me for spring when it is too warm for tights but too cold to go bare-legged.
  1. I will make good use of my last 3 months of gym membership and then the great outdoors to lose half a stone and tone up everywhere. I will stop eating processed crap and follow a low GI way of eating.
  1. I will find a decent hairdresser who listens, get my hair cut regularly and into some discernable style. I will make an effort to blow dry and BBH my hair at least twice a week and I will learn a few more up-dos for other days.
  1. I will continue to resist the fake tan, pale = beautiful and learn a few more make up looks.
Jcee · 02/01/2012 14:55

YY to wearing 'best' clothes rather than leaving them in wardrobe then moaning I never have the opportunity to wear them....My others will be...

  1. I will always use a moisturiser after a shower
  1. I will get my hair cut regularly rather than every now and again and inbetween pretending my hanging in my eyes overly long fringe is because I'm toying with growing it out
  1. Make a serious effort to lose that 1/2 stone of 'baby' weight (the baby was 2 last week!)
MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 02/01/2012 15:07
  1. Book an appointment to get my colours done because the bloody voucher is 9 months old.
  1. Get samples before buying any more makeup.
  1. Only buy things I love.
  1. Buy things that I like when I see them.
toomuchsand · 02/01/2012 15:15

Lose weight and tone up. My babies are over two, so I have to stop pretending it's baby weight.
Do hair properly every morning plus bit of make up.
Feet. Look after my feet! No surprises come sandal weather...

SoFreshNSoClean · 02/01/2012 15:17

Going to floss every night and really start looking after my teeth (had them whitened last month and want to keep up the lovely fresh look).

Keep off the stone I have lost in 2011.

Stop buying cheap shit clothes and buy less, but better quality.

Get botox on my number 11s (next week - eek)

homeaway · 02/01/2012 16:19

I will go through my wardrobe and do a big cull of everything I really dont wear anymore.

I will sort through my knicker drawer and match everything up again as it is a tip and then only buy stuff I really like.

I will chuck all my tights that fall down as they have shrunk in the wash even at 40 deg.

File my nails more often and wear nail varnish.

Wear perfume everyday so that i can get through the mountains that i have been given.

Book a leg wax every month rather than faffing around at home ( I deserve a treat) :)

Liveinthepresent · 02/01/2012 16:44

I will stop eating cake and chocolate - this alone may enable me that half a stone before DD Christening
I will stop wearing the nasty pants I bought to wear after giving birth Blush
I will buy less but better quality - think key pieces
I will plan ahead on work days
I will get back to yoga classes

miserablemum · 02/01/2012 17:30

Last year my resolution was to change all my beauty products to organic ones......my skin has improved sooooo much!!!

Worth a try - it's no more expensive

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/01/2012 17:37

I'd like to lose half a stone (my baby is 14!) - I think any more and my face will look too old and thin. Also, I quite like having a bum (never used to have one) - is it possible to just lose half a stone off one's stomach?

I will use body lotion instead of just buying it and ignoring it.

I will discover how to wear lipstick and then actually wear it.

I will put strengthening stuff on my nails at least twice a week.
