  1. I will NOT continually waste my money on 'designer' hair products from Boots. I do not need any more thickening lotions, volumising mousses, serums, sprays (sea salt spray? WTF was I thinking?), texturisers or anything else. It is all SHIT and makes my hair look like it hasn't been washed for a week. All I need is GOOD shampoo and conditioner (pref. Aveda - which I could afford if I stopped spunking cash on Boots rubbish) and Elnett.

May I join you? If I write it down I have to do it then Grin

  • wear perfume every day
  • wear nail polish every day and do it proerply in nice colours and not just grey or pink
  • stop buying cheap crud that is false economy, buy quality things
  • attempt a capsule wardrobe - looking at the rail it looks like a panto costume rail with so many bright colours and nothing goes.
  • get my eyebrows properly shaped
  • moisturise body and face daily

Charity shop my old maternity stuff and flog the decent stuff on eBay
Make some more headway into losing the 10kg of baby weight (ds2 is 9 months old)
Only own clothes I wear
Buy trousers which DO NOT have elastic or a drawstring at the waist
Learn about lipstick in NORMAL colours
Own more than 1 set of gym kit - I really cannot use it twice since once = soggy biohazard
Throw out my cheap falling apart mismatched supermarket duds and get some proper knickers
Own matching knickers and bra ( post BF)

thaliablogs · 02/01/2012 23:20

twoistwiceasfestive: Have you discussed using retinA with your doctor? It cured my acne once and for all when I was in my late 20s. However it depends on your famiy planning - you have to commit to using contracption while you are on it, and for some period afterwards, I can't remember how long but I'd probably want to do at least a year. Magic stuff for the spots though.

partytearsfew · 03/01/2012 01:32
  1. I will not think I need more clothes when actually I have bags of clothes in various places I have forgotten about. Like the lowest draw near the tv when I was going to iron whilst watching Wall-E with kids (must have shoved them there after taking out of washing machine).
OR the BIGGEST BAG IN THE WORLD that sits on the landing just waiting to be sorted..................... OR the bottom of my wardrobe when I just 'open and sling' in a devil may care kind of way, which usually translates as 'it's 2.59 and I have to get to school yet I have ALL this ironing to clear away...........(and we don't have a home help).
  1. Oh yes and also.... buy some
non alcoholic red wine ( to see if it is any way palatable which I doubt).
  1. I will try more to keep in contact with old friends whom I miss.
  2. Think more about what I need to do....
mathanxiety · 03/01/2012 05:29

Twois and Vivian have you tried acne.org?

I think my main resolution is to use the nice perfumes I have -- what am I saving them for?

Also to drink more water and get more serious about my daily exercise, five-a-day, take a multivitamin, get to bed consistently/reasonably early.

I like all of these. I am inspired!

My resolutions are - drink more water, eat less crap, spend 15 minutes morning and evening on myself. I find it difficult to do in the morning with 3 DC's and am always rushing downstairs after showering with no make-up/wet hair, but if DH can spend 15 minutes on the toilet with the sports section of the paper every morning, I think I am allowed to put a bit of foundation on and run the straighteners through my hair!

MABS · 03/01/2012 09:23

I had retinA twice , was amazing, but you have to ensure you not trying for a babe. I use Duac now and find it very good for the odd acne spot i get.

AnInnocentAbroad · 03/01/2012 09:31

And for me; healthy eating GI style (I can lose 12kg by Easter, can't I?), drink more water, less wine, no new clothes before Easter - when hopefully I won't need any as I will be able to fit into the ones in the wardrobe which are too small. Lots of sleep. Manicure/pedicure weekly. Sleep. Worry less, smile more. Sleep.

YusMilady · 03/01/2012 11:03

This thread is great. I resolve to:
Sort out my big bushy 'tache by going for salon waxing/threading regularly instead of tweezering and missing loads.
Keep using my miracle cuticle trimmer and having hands that look groomed and appealing at all times
Buy some decent jewellery - at least one or two pieces this year. I'm sick of wearing cheap rubbish like I'm still 12.
Lose the flab. Again.

Gnomi · 03/01/2012 12:29

I resolve to:

Do something with my hair so that it looks like it is intentional, rather than I forgot about the nest on top of my head.
Pluck my eyebrows each week and file my nails each week.
Floss every day.
Wear more lipstick.
No diet resolutions as I'm expecting DC1 in July.

swanfall · 03/01/2012 14:31

Great thread!

I will:

-Accept that there is hair on my thighs as well as my lower legs and do something about it.
-Find some bras that fit me and that I actually like.
-Sort through my wardrobe and give what I don't want to charity/eBay.
-Keep my long hair and fringe and not be tempted to cut it off on a whim, as it took ages to grow it and it looks nice.
-Wear lipstick so I don't look dead.
-Wear my perfume instead of leaving it languishing in a drawer.
-Dress more smartly for work.
-Try to do some situps/crunches/Pilates most days. Only needs to take 10 mins and feels so good afterwards.

EqualStevens · 03/01/2012 14:37

Good thread!

  1. Do more up-dos. My hair looks great up but I can NEVER be bothered to faff around with a bun ring and bobby pins in the morning.
  1. Only buy clothing which will be part of at least 3 outfits.
  1. Drink a glass of water every time I have a coffee.
  1. See 5 a day as a MINIMUM and aim to increase fruit/veg/pulses and reduce meat/animal fats/dairy.
  1. Sort wardrobe aiming for 1 bag to charity, 1 bag to DSis and 1 bag for loft for next PG.
LadyClariceCannockMonty · 03/01/2012 14:45

I will eat more vegetables.

I will walk up escalators at all times oh no I won't.

I will do more than 15 minutes twice a week on the cross-trainer at the gym.

I do not need and will not buy any more leopard-print footwear.

I will stop 'just picking up' 'just one' more pair of fecking tights in an unusual colour that I wear once and then tire of.

I will not buy things that are still expensive just because they're in the sale.

I will not buy things that don't quite fit on the grounds that 'it'll be fine if I wear it with x/don't wear it with y/always pull up the sleeves/wash it hot'.

I will stop going to TK Maxx twice a week every week again, I probably won't.

HappyWilly · 03/01/2012 14:59

I will be as kind and thoughtful to me as I am to everyone else

I will respect my (imperfect) body instead of taking it for granted, treating it to wholesome food and exercising and lavishing attention on it in the form of body scrubs, lotions, perfume, manicures and pedicures (plus regular waxing)

I will stop putting my life on hold until I have lost weight/moved house/changed jobs

ThreeSugars · 03/01/2012 16:18

Great thread! And I need a lot of stuff from everyone's list as well as some of my own...
Like not using the fact I work from home to stay in my pjs all day.

Find decent shoes that are comfortable and pretty so that I don't have a cupboard full of great-looking shoes I never wear because my slippers are so comfy and can pass for a short pair of Ug-like boots.

Plan ahead when it comes to meals so I don't end up hungry at 2pm, deciding it's too late to make a real lunch and eating a packet of crisps instead.

naturelover · 03/01/2012 16:22
  1. buff my nails weekly
  2. do something about the muffin top, it makes my flat chest look even flatter in comparison :(
  3. accept that I will always be flat chested and try not to hate it so much
  4. wear some make up every day to look less tired
  5. start using Dermalogica again, cheaper stuff is proving to be a false economy
niknakpaddywhack · 03/01/2012 19:10

Excellent thread Smile. I will

  1. Drink more water
  2. Try not to touch my face (spot prone at nearly 40 Sad)
  3. Wear perfume every day
  4. Do something about my feet!!! Hard/rough skin, terrible nails- must try harder.
  5. Continue to cleanse and tone daily - am starting to see an improvement (see number 2 above)
puggirl · 03/01/2012 21:38

I absolutely WILL lose the 1.5 stone I gained when I ate and drank like a b***d for the last year blinked.

I will up the ante and only leave the house looking polished not as though I have been dragged through a hedge backwards.

Handbags will always match or compliment footwear.

Hands and feet with be presentable (hard skin removed and hang nails gone forever. No more biting skin around fingers, disgusting habit up there with picking nose.

Bras and knickers will match or at least compliment each other.

The 'best' clothes are going to get worn.

I will accept that Jimmy Choo wellingtons were an complete splurge and totally unnecessary. The dog doesnt care what the wellies look like, neither does the silver haired dog walking fraternity. Total waste of money me thinks?

Its a start but I managed to run 9 miles in the last 2 days, though if you saw me now my hair has dried naturally and is twice the size of a lions mane. At least the finger nails are painted. A journey of a thousand miles and all that Wink

RowenaRavenclaw · 04/01/2012 01:37

This is a great thread! I've made other resolutions for the year like I'm going to say "Yes!" to more things. Invites, parties, birthdays, friends and stop saying no because I'm comfortable being at home talking to my sister on the phone.

Style & Beauty;

  1. Stop talking on the phone and spend more time getting ready when going out anywhere. I always end up rushed, late and feel like not going.
  1. Sort out my wardrobe situation. It's totally heaving, with what I'd say is great clothes, but it's a mess.
  1. Iron, iron, iron everything! Don't leave it till last minute, then end up looking in the laundry basket for 'that top/skirt/spanx! Only to try and handwash it or be ironing it when I'm supposed to be putting my makeup on!
  1. Tidy my handbag all the time of receipts, coins, empty wrappers and ds's toys! I have my purse, makeup bag so why can't I just take a few seconds to put things where they should go.

(By now anyone still reading this probably thinks I'm the messiest, untidiest person ever...blush:/)

  1. Slow down everything. Savour the coffee so I dont have to have another immediately. Meditate at least once a week. Keep a journal. Listen to music I really enjoy.
  1. Stop gossiping.
  1. Have a bedtime routine for myself. A proper one.
  1. Use eye cream and anti wrinkle cream everyday.
  1. Stop using ds as an excuse to gain weight over school holidays. Work out at home when I can't go to the gym.
  1. Don't buy anymore clothes or makeup. Use the stuff I've got.

  2. Have a bath once a week. ( instead of a rushed shower after the gym everyday).

  3. Drink more water.

  4. Buy those clear shoe organisers, drawer organisers, more hangers, a better laundry basket for whites/ darks/ colours

  5. Get some self help book or therapy to stop feeling so ugly. ( long story)

  6. Take more photos with me in it. I always hate the way I look in photos but make it worse by squinting or making s face. I have photos of ds with only dh other people for the first few years if his life. I'm invisible.

  7. Be kind to myself. Forgive people. Let go of anger and hurt and embrace a fresh new year with open arms and a happy heart.

  8. Make more effort for dh.

  9. Get more sleep.

I think that's all of it. Lol

kickassangel · 04/01/2012 02:56

New morning routine will be

6.15 - alarm
6.30 - couch to 5k 3x week, do some writing 2x week
7.00 - shower & get dressed
7.30 - get dd up, do pack lunch, yell at dd, yell at her some more
8.00 - leave for work with dd (after more yelling)

To enable this may need to go to bed at 10 (that's now)

CheerfulYank · 04/01/2012 03:08

I will do everything HappyWilly said.

I will take the dog for a long walk at least once a day, he loves it and so do I, and it's good for my skin.

Drink more water, and use more lotion and lip balm...just generally stay more hydrated. I'm 29 FFS, there's no reason to go around looking gray and flaky.

Buy some tops that actually go with the lovely scarves I bought so I can wear them.

GET MORE SLEEP.

Buy a sleep mask. There's just something decadent about them.

Do something about the crusty patches on my knees and ankles...what the hell are those anyway? Hopefully exfoliation and salve will sort them out.
