Best winter boots for school run?

AnnieMated · 20/10/2011 19:08

I'm in dire need of a new pair of boots, mainly for the school run to be honest and kicking around in at the weekends - was so flipping cold this morning and my feet looked beyond tragic in little nude patent ballet pumps.

Basic criteria are no heels, warm, long lasting and under a hundred quid. Oh and brown if possible and definitely not black or UGGS.

Front runners are currently these: www.schuh.co.uk/rocket-dog/womens-dark-brown-rocket-dog-sugar-daddy/1503336150

I'm also tempted by a pair of navy blue/duck egg Hunters with the big fleece sock liner things for extra warmth.

Any ideas, comments or suggestions please? :)

Cant beat uggs on a cold morning

BuildersTea · 20/10/2011 19:31

I'm currently considering a pair or Bearpaws. The have them in TK Maxx at the moment for around the £45-50 mark. Also they sell them on Amazon and with the current 20% promo they work out to be a similar price.

I do also have Hunter wellies for when it's tipping down.

blossoming · 20/10/2011 19:35

Perennial problem. Suede/sheepskin lets in water.. Fly boots let in water. Hunters look ridiculous if you then go on to mother and toddler group..
I am almost resigned to buying these. More money than I want to spend too, but then I spent a hundred quid on Flys. Waste of money that turned out to be. At least these will last a few seasons.

ggirl · 20/10/2011 19:43

DD bought a waterproof pair of timberland boots for £65 last weekend.
They're a size 6 so adult size ,just cheaper.
these I think

ggirl · 20/10/2011 19:44

She got them in soletrade btw not online , where they only seem to go up to size 5

pinkappleby · 20/10/2011 19:48

blossoming - I want those now, but look at the price....I was tempted by Flys but I was between sizes. Looks like I had a lucky escape!

AutumnWitch · 20/10/2011 20:07

I've just bought these. With a good pair of socks I'm warm and comfy. Another MNetter mentioned that they last for ever as well.

Ilovebagsandbruuuce · 20/10/2011 20:11

yep Flys a waste of money - let in water and get tide marks etc. I bought Merrell Yarra's in stone - from Javari for £77 (retail £140 ish on merrell site). They are like a brown colour really, warm, waterproof and v comfy. I bought specifically for school run wet weather when i didn't want to wear wellies. Not my first choice in style terms but they ticked all the boxes for practicality and they do look nice on actually. 100% recommend. Oh and Javari had a 20% off code on their homepage that flashes up.

Ilovebagsandbruuuce · 20/10/2011 20:16

merrell yarra looks like they have put price up a bit but still a bargain for under £100.

AnnieMated · 20/10/2011 20:21

Ooh, loving those Merrell Yarra ones especially, but thanks so much for all the suggestions...googling away to see if I can find for less...

I quite fancy the look of these from Clarks here. Clarks have some nice styles this winter.

Blundstones! warm, waterproof and having a fashion 'moment'. Unfortunately they are also ££ but they last forever...

fasn8tor · 21/10/2011 10:06

Blundstones

DukesOfTripHazard · 21/10/2011 10:24

Blossoming I love those merrell eleenas. They look indestructible. I am tempted.

peedieworky · 21/10/2011 10:49

I just bought these from local shoe shop. Warm (sheep skin lining) and waterproof and I thought looked a bit like Fly boots? Got fed up avoiding puddles in my Uggs!

peedieworky · 21/10/2011 10:53

Duh - missed the no black clause...

ElenorRigby · 21/10/2011 11:06

I recently bought Clarks furry lined Goretex boots for DD and I. We have to walk across a country park to get DD to school. Waterproof and warm, they do the job brilliantly.

Voidka · 21/10/2011 11:07

I have the same boots as Autumnwitch and I love them. This is my third winter in them and they look as good as new.

ElsieMc · 21/10/2011 11:12

Although I've always thought of River Island as fashion boots only, I was bought a pair of full length leather boots last year (flatties) - think they were around £90 and they are fine, warm and comfortable, no tide marks etc. Will easily get another year's wear.

This year I was bought a pair of ankle boots in a lighter grey colour with fur lining, dear at £74 from Rivers. Thought they would mark very easily, but they are not bad at all. Read the literature and I think the leather is treated. Reason I mention this is that they are really comfy and warm and on offer now (damn) with £25 off. Bargain.

Kveta · 21/10/2011 11:20

I got these but in grey/black last year, and they are the most comfy shoes ever, plus toasty warm and can go over or under my jeans. However, I have absolutely no fashion sense whatsoever, so they may look ridiculous. I don't care; I can now feel my toes in cold weather.

Kveta · 21/10/2011 11:21

sorry, these.

the soles have penguins on them Blush

Slubberdegullion · 21/10/2011 11:23

[surprised and alarmed in Style and Beauty]

Not sure if they come into your under £100 criteria OP but...

Last year I bought some Echo boots

I know I know. Old lady bunion boots however.

They are flat, they are brown and perfectly plain so you would never really know and, remember last year the snow in London, well we were visiting and so I only had one pair of shoes with me and you know what I had? DRY WARM FEET. Oh yes. All by the power of Gore-Tex. They also have some magic gel or something inside and so you get a shock absorbingness that other boots would fail to deliver.

Warm, Dry, Flat, Brown, Shock absorbing, there is almost no end to the pleasure that these boots deliver.
I have them on right now, and am getting a minor frisson just sitting still in my kitchen.

Ariesgirl · 21/10/2011 11:35

Hark at me posting in Style and Beauty!

I had those Rocket Dog sugar daddies and they lasted less than a year before me going through the soles and them soaking up puddles. I am what is known as "hard on my shoes", though I don't see how and why.

Animal do some lovely ones at good prices. Look I have had the second row down, second from the left for nearly three years now.
