Best winter boots for school run?

AnnieMated · 20/10/2011 19:08

I'm in dire need of a new pair of boots, mainly for the school run to be honest and kicking around in at the weekends - was so flipping cold this morning and my feet looked beyond tragic in little nude patent ballet pumps.

Basic criteria are no heels, warm, long lasting and under a hundred quid. Oh and brown if possible and definitely not black or UGGS.

Front runners are currently these: www.schuh.co.uk/rocket-dog/womens-dark-brown-rocket-dog-sugar-daddy/1503336150

I'm also tempted by a pair of navy blue/duck egg Hunters with the big fleece sock liner things for extra warmth.

Any ideas, comments or suggestions please? :)

I also really like these. Don't know how hard-wearing they would be although I have been pleasantly suprised by the quality of Next shoes of late.

TheHumancatapult · 22/10/2011 07:43

Buttered I'm liking those next boots .wonder if they unlace whole way down may pop into our next store see if they have any to try on

Need be able to get them on easy so need either unzipped or laces or short as my legs will not do what I tell them

Ilovemypinkflowerywellies · 22/10/2011 07:58

Buttered loved the Next boots just ordered them in black thanks for the pointer Smile

Am I missing something, please don't flame me, but all these boots are so fugly? I also now have a new pet hate, croc boots.

On the plus side they do look practical, warm and comfortable.

Would you consider something like this plain riding boot or these or these

AWimbaWay · 22/10/2011 09:29

madammecholet, I have 3 pairs of that style of boot too but they're just not up to walking to school in the cold snow, ice and rain in the winter. My Merrell oslo boots really are and I've had more people ask where I got them as they wanted some too than anything else I've ever owned, so they can't look that bad Smile.

MrsKitty · 22/10/2011 10:21

Earthymama I love Buzz in Cardiff! Just bought myself a fab pair of Destroy boots there last week (can't find link anywhere though).

re: Winter boots - I keep seeing people recommend the Merrell Provost. Don't fancy them myself (would love some Oslo's though), but I did just come across a pair in a size 7 at a bargainous price here if anyone's after them.

BrandyAlexander · 22/10/2011 10:53

Merrell's Eleena!!! They are amazing. Your feet are just so warm and there's fantastic grip. They are expensive (£170) so outside your range but you will never want or need another pair again.

I love my Rocket Dog Sugar Daddies but like most have said the sole has worn. I look forward to cold dry days where I can still wear them on the nursery run!

Loving the look of the RaceTrack boots but doubt the sole is any good with keeping grip. Can anyone comment on this from experience?? Im due NYD and need to walk through a park to get to the nursery so nothing to hold onto if I slide.

Absolutely LOVE the DM Jennys, just not the price. Need to go price hunting me thinks...

ButteredCrumpet · 22/10/2011 11:15

HumanCatapult - they have a zip on the inside (you need to use the rotate thingy on the picture to see it).

PinkFlowery- I am also v tempted to get them. Was holding off as I really need to also buy some flat smart boots to wear with skirts for work. (Usually wear heels but badly sprained my ankle a couple of months ago so won't be in heels this winter I fear). I will never be able to justify a double boot purchase to DH!

Ephiny · 22/10/2011 11:35

I have my eye on the Merrell Taiga ones, or maybe the Oslos.

I think it's definitely going to be Merrell, they might not be cheap but I trust them on comfort and quality (have had their hiking boots and sandals) and every review/comment I've heard says they're toasty-warm and good grip on the ice. Properly waterproof as well, which is important given the weeks of slushy snow we tend to end up with!

Animation · 22/10/2011 11:40

I swear by UGG boots - because I've not been ill since I discovered them 3 years ago.

trixymalixy · 22/10/2011 12:12

The Merrel Eleena's are by far the nicest. Why can't there be more waterproof boots that don't look like waterproof boots IYSWIM?

shoutyman · 22/10/2011 12:14

I bought my merrell puffins on eBay in the summer for £20 and have just ordered a pair of black Tana Dr Martens for £65 also from eBay so am all set up and ready to go.
My tan knee length Clarkes flats from last year are still comfy but not so great for snow and ice, hence the merrell purchase. Am finding the tan leather easy to scuff though and they're starting to look shabby already only after one winter Sad- any excuse for new boots!

ReshapeWhileDamp · 22/10/2011 12:29

Loving this thread. Now I just can't make up my mind! I've been slogging along in a few pairs of ancient Clarks boots (first pair bought new about 6 years ago Blush, subsequent pairs from ebay) and I really need some new ones. I did strike lucky in TK Maxx last winter with some heavily reduced Rocket Dogs (they're a bit Ugg-shaped) but would prefer leather to suede.

MadameWooOOoovary · 22/10/2011 13:07

I've just bought Fitflop Blizz after reading this thread, so if anyone has them please let me know!

GoldenGreen · 02/11/2011 21:21

ok, have just bought the Merrell Eleena after looking at almost everything on this thread. They should arrive just after the weekend - will report back!

Had the FitFlop tall Hoopers under serious consideration and have tried them on in both the suede and leather but they looked a bit riding boot-ish and that's not really me. They were very comfy though as you would expect. Also I am quite large of calf and didn't struggle to get them on - hope that is useful info for anyone considering ordering.
